Howdy folks, got a little late night double feature. This IMP 18 and a 2011 Swedish Survival Ration (Also with a vintage Swedish Survival Ration inside that review for comparison. So technically 3 rations tonight). Hope you all are doing well this Summer! June was an amazing month for filming, but a bit slow on the editing. Sometimes ya just gotta film when in the zone. So July is going to have a lot more going on. Israel, Turkey, WW2 rations, and more. So stay tuned! In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this one. I really like the way it turned out.

The IMPs are definitely among the most consistently high quality rations. Shepherd's Pie is one of my favorite dishes in general. The IMP is the only ration I've seen offering it. And, I know you'll probably get some comments/complaints about "Shepherd's Pie is SUPPOSED to be made with lamb". For me it's always been beef. I'm sure different parts of the world might have different ideas of what's supposed to be in it. But my reasoning is that shepherds are supposed to take care of and protect flocks of sheep. Why the heck would they EAT them?!?
@Steve1989MRE5 жыл бұрын
Hey man! Always great to see ya in the comments, your insight is always on point. IMPs are such excellent rations and fun to review. The Shepherd's Pie is one that has always sketched me out though with the puffy retort - in Doswell at the meetup the IMP 14s we had had puffy Shepherd's Pie mains. This was my first time actually trying that one. I always had beef as the protein in any recipe - first starting in school. So you & me both on that one right there man. Hahah now that is pure gold.. I never thought of it like that! Those are some bad bad shepherds. Or they are maybe in dire straights and super hungry to eat their own lambs?

Interesting fact, the French name "pâté chinois" or "Chinese stew" (rough translation) comes from the fact that ground beef, corn and mashed potatoes is what they served the Chinese workers who worked on the Canadian railroad. Also, Kit Kat is the most popular candy bar in Canada.
@SomeInterestingName2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I was wondering about that, I picked up that it might have meant "Chinese pate" and was really confused, if anything I'd have expected it to say "pâté Anglais".
@philllllllll2 жыл бұрын
@@SomeInterestingName it's very much a derivative of shepherd's pie but it's not quite the same. And it's much more a staple in Québec among French Canadians than the Anglo side of the country.

Hello, Mr Pedant here, I know your comment is 4 years old, but that's not going to stop me from pointing out that shepherd's pie is made with ground lamb, if it was ground beef, that would be a cottage pie.
