With a few touring bike test rides under my belt, the Street Glide did not fail to impress. It's an aggressive tourer, but still has great comfort and is an ideal fit for shorter riders.

You're right wind buffeting is a big problem for touring. I had MAJOR wind buffeting issues with my "fixed fairing" Victory Cross County. I spent a long time working it out. I now run with small under tank deflectors and a Madstad windshield system...which is *amazing*

I have a 2018 RGS and I changed the worthless OEM windscreen to a Long Ride shields 12" dark color. That solved my buffeting issues as the wind now hits the top of my helmet .

Thx for the video. As someone mentioned, there's a vent in the fairing to reduce buffeting . I'm really looking forward to ride mine this summer (2018 Street Glide Special)!

nice review. I’m also 5’6” and about 175ish. The bike works out well but it does feel heavy. When I first got it, I practiced backing it up in an empty parking lot, etc. Also, did more weight lifting exercises focusing on deadlifts and bicep curls and it doesn’t feel so heavy anymore. I also find at my size it’s about balance and not just strength. I’m on a 2015 streetglide and waiting for some 40+ F weather and clean roads. I put the fangs, wind deflectors on the fairing, hard lowers, and that curled 8” windshield and it feels a lot better on the highway; stock is terrible with all that buffetting.
@thatoneguymoto
@thatoneguymoto 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the buffeting would become unbearable after long, so it's good to know there's a solution. I agree, that it's more about balance than strength, but increased strength will only help a persons balance, so good on you for working that out (pun intended). 🤓

The one good thing about Harley is they make a lot of bikes that fit guys our size. That one fit you like a glove too. Oddly, you picked the one thing they make for guys 6'6" ;) Did you purchase one of those helmet mounted pony tails? I want one! That buffeting wind comes up from around the tank. It gets turbulent as it hits the wind coming over the screen. Harley and others make wind deflectors that attach to the forks. Most are plastic. Harley's are chrome. Those are usually enough to stop the head bobble. If insufficient, a taller screen is the next step. I had to get my license yesterday. So happens, their building is next to a Harley dealer, so afterward, I strolled in to see the new toys. They had the Road Glide equivalent to what you were riding in a color called Sumatra Brown. It was absolutely stunning. One issue I found with it is the kickstand can be a bit of a stretch. They also put these silly handlebars better suited to a wheelbarrow on them. Don't bother looking for pics as the color looks boring via the computer. It is mesmerizing in the flesh. No problem finding that bike in a crowd.
@thatoneguymoto
@thatoneguymoto 6 жыл бұрын
That ponytail did look a little like that! I mean, they have the mowhawk, so why not the ponytail. LOLOh, and I've seen this color you're talking about! Didn't know what it was called, but it is spectacular! Question for you - does the fixed fairing take getting used to, on the Road Glide?
@saddle8bag
@saddle8bag 6 жыл бұрын
What's there to get used to? The looks? There's no weight bolted to the forks so they're probably a little easier to steer. It's amazing how a little weight on the forks makes a difference. My old Victory Cross Roads was a great handling bike to begin with, but removing the 10 lb windshield made the steering inputs noticeably lighter. I just couldn't ride it at highway speeds that way. Even intentionally exerting my core and trying to stay light on the bars, the arthritis in my knuckles made my fingers ache terribly. Riding around the backroads at 40-60 mph was great fun though. My Versys has a frame mounted fairing like the RG and it works great. The last time I rode a Road Glide, I wasn't too thrilled with it though. I think it was around 2011, right after they went to fly by wire. I also demo'd a Fatboy that day that still had a cable throttle. It had perfect fueling and even over bad roads felt solid, even if it didn't soak up everything. The FBW Road Glide's fueling was jerky and the fairing rattled like it was going to fall apart over the same bumps. And it absorbed less than the Fatboy. I'm sure they've got that stuff ironed out by now, but I'd still want to ride one before I bought it. Damn things cost a fortune!

Street Glide is my favourite of the tourers. But these days, I prefer not to have a heavy weight bike, especially given that I ride with a passenger most times. The Street Glide handles the curves at speed very very well.
@thatoneguymoto

Yeah, I didn't get a chance to really get into the turns, but it handled beautifully. It would be a toss-up for me, between the Road King Special and the Street Glide Special if I had the money to buy a touring bike, right now.

I'm 6' 1" but only have a 32" inseam, the Street Glide fits me pretty well, other than the wind from the fairing hitting me squarely in the face shield, causing more wind noise than I'd like. I'm still trying to decide between the Street Glide and Road Glide.

Awesome review bro. I'm planning to upgrade my Harley from a Sportster model and currently looking between the Softail Slim and Street Glide. Your review have certainly made me more confident to choose the SG over the Slim. I'm more keen at the Street Glide simply because it's a more awesomely bigger bike but my concern has always been my reach. I'm worried that I would not be able to have a firm flat foot when the bike is in a stand still position like at the traffic lights or junctions. For your information I'm about 5'6" tall on a good day. Can you give me your opinion if it would be a big challenge riding the Street Glide for a person of my height. I hope to have your reply soonest possible. Thank you bro.
@thatoneguymoto
@thatoneguymoto 5 жыл бұрын
It would depend more on your inseam and arm length. I am the same height, maybe a little taller with boots on, and I had absolutely no problem on this ride. I really felt like it's made for riders between 5' 6" and 5' 10". Go to your dealer and throw a leg over, and if you can take it out for a spin. The Slim is a great bike, too, though, so it just depends on what you're using your bike for.

Relatively speaking, it felt great in the slow-speed turns and very easy to maneuver. When ever you've got a big fairing and the speakers and infotainment up there, it's gonna feel slightly top heavy, but I had no problems. I thought it was a really balanced, comfortable, confident ride. Hope that answers your question. Thanks for watching! :D

@thatoneguymoto 5 жыл бұрын
Throw a leg over, and take it out for a ride. Once you get rolling, it really doesn't feel like what it actually weighs. But, by all means, if you are uncomfortable or afraid of riding a big bagger, I would advise against it. Work your way up, if you need to. Go ride a Fat Bob, or a Slim, then ride a Road King. Then if those don't intimidate you, try out the Street Glide. Good luck, and ride safe!

Evan dynanda R just traded in my 48 for a street glide special. Originally had a sport glide on order but the proportions are better on the street. It is heavy tho and that my biggest concern as I need to back it out of my garage manually. But once it’s moving you won’t notice it’s weight

There were multiple riders at the demo who mentioned feeling cramped on the Street Glide, and with it feeling like the perfect fit for myself, I could see where they were coming from. It's good to know, though, that a taller rider, like yourself, can ride it comfortably. Thanks for the feedback. What were the other comments I made that you felt were inaccurate?
@CaseyJones-Engineer
@CaseyJones-Engineer 6 жыл бұрын
Your reasoning about the cause of the turbulence being caused by a taller screen as others have pointed out when the reverse is true. Not trying to be too picky but I think if you're going to do a ride review you should have more facts at hand ahead of time. Nice music intro though.

I couldn't tell you from experience, but the wet weight it 829 lbs. Add a little more for gear in your bags, and it's at least 835 lbs. My bike weight is about 700 lbs, so like mine, I would guess it wouldn't be a big deal if the ground is level, but very difficult if there is any incline at all.
