Great presentation and explanation definitely one of the more complete truck camper videos out there. Mechanically your 2500 is far better equipped than any 3500 stock truck. For those questioning this build please continue to read. It's not practical for commercial companies to purchase vehicles and modify them, this is why the stock sticker is for the stock configuration. Interesting tidbit, there's only 90lbs of difference between a 5th gen 2500 and 3500, which is the result of higher rated front springs and rear leaf springs with equally higher payload rating. The 5th gen 2500 and 3500 use the same rear differential assembly, axle, bearings, brakes and many other components, the engines and transmissions are the same as well. Their stock rating reflects guidelines for commercial usage based on stock configuration and since most fleet cannot modify their fleet vehicles they purchase the 3500's if it meets their payload/towing needs. One can only imagine having a fleet of 2500's with different suspension systems it would be a nightmare to keep parts on hand. For those that want a turn key stock solution the 3500's are ideal, for those than want rear springs with a custom configuration the 2500's can be a better fit for personal usage. Modified vehicles can be very difficult to use commercially unless the vehicle undergoes re-rating which is not very common and requires additional costs and time. Again, another reason that commercial and fleet managers purchase fit for purpose vehicles rather than tuners.

Great looking Rig you have! Thanks for the great video! I just bought a 2017 RAM 2500 with 6.5 Bed and same basic camper length. The rear tie downs are frame mounted and this puts the chain angle at 45 degrees. I like how your attach to the hitch, no severe front angle, seems stronger and less prone to the camper porpoising. Did you start out with frame mounts and move the the hitch tie down? I'm thinking of keeping the frame mounts and adding straps to the hitch as you have. Any thoughts?

Thanks! It's really been a great camper and we've gotten a lot of use out of it. Camper basics, check the condition of the roof, run the ac, furnace, fridge ect. No real specific issues with the camper that I can think of. It is heavy so you might need airbags. It also takes a bit of getting used to getting it on the truck as well, it gets easier the more you do it, most importantly make sure its centered with a tape measure, if not you'll know it! Good luck with the camper! Hope you enjoy it!

Just about any pickup camper needs the addition of a heavy duty sway bar and air bags. If you don’t have them I’d get them, as well as 12 ply tires if you’ve got a srw.

Can u pull a trailer with a long bed truck?
@9NailzGarage4 жыл бұрын
It’s hard to say cause the step sticks out probably about 2 foot past where it would sit on a long bed truck. I’m sure it’d be perfect with an extension hitch, I’d just be careful with tongue weight. I’d reccomend a 3500

I got an 06 Ram 2500 with an 8 inch lift and I was thinking about a slide in. Then I killed that thought because I never thought I could get jacks that could go that high and thought if I'm driving through some switch backs I would have to literally have to drive at walking speed to avoid tipping over. I have airbags as well. Did you have to go with a bigger set of jacks?

I have a ram 2500 CTD we hardly use it been looking at Motorhomes. The pickup have we hardly use and a motorhome when I can just put a camper on the back of my pickup. My 2015 diesel pickup only has 40k on it like brand new I know the engine is much better than some motorhome that has 150k on a ford 5.4 or 6.8 engine which are known to have issues when the miles get up there. Nothing better than a turbo diesel it's already 4wd. The cool thing about a camper is can park it almost anywhere lot of national parks campgrounds are limited to 20-25 feet long. You don't need an extra car to tow behind it. I haven't decided yet the only good thing about a motorhome is just park it and go in the back and sleep our dogs have more room, built in Generator. Might be able to retrofit a generator bolt it up behind the tail gate area. Solar system with lithium batteries would be easier on a motorhome. Seems like if I do go with the motorhome just sell the pickup buy a older Tacoma for stuff around the house.
