I actually think the GT350R is the better looking car, and will age much better. Think it actually sounds better too. And it comes with a manual, the way it should be. It’s not all about going fast. Not only will most people never go to the track, 99.9% of people can’t drive the car at its limit anyways. So speed doesn’t even matter…

Interior wise, Z06 hands down. Exterior, I prefer the Mustang. Overall I think the Z06 is a better all around car. If I could only have one of the two, I’d go with the Mustang.

Congratulations, you are the first rational person owning a GT350 or Z06 regarding cabon fiber wheels wheels and cup 2 tires. I am amazed at owners on the forums and KZbin that think having carbon fiber wheels and cup 2 tires is the wise choice. Furthermore, you stating that having driving lessons would likely increase track performance more is spot on. The reality is most owners are confused, thinking the cup 2 tires with cabon fiber increasing track lap times equates to their needs. The reality is none are racing for money where a 2 second faster lap time matters. What does matter is them having a safe car to drive on the street, not spending a lot more on expensive tires that last only a few thousand miles. As you mentioned, you and the majority of owners couldn't tell the difference between the unsprung weight of a low weight forged aluminum wheel vs a carbon fiber one but will notice the repair bill for repairing a fragile carbon fiber wheels damaged by street driving. Owners of these cars are not professional race car drivers. The reality is owning one of these cars equates to driving them mildly aggressive on the street and tracking them to engage and enjoy the driving dynamics vs breaking a track record and risk crashing their beloved street car. You got your set of carbon fiber wheels with cup 2 tires exactly where they belong, in your garage until track day.

Z06 may be expensive, but I also am old enough to remember the ZR1 C4 was about twice price of a loaded Base C4. So Vette high end trims have been very expensive before.

I’m a Shelby guy with a 20’ 350 and a 20’ 500 and I loved but now can’t stand the C8 base version because I see 10 of them on the way to work and I feel like they just threw an engine off the shelf in it. Now the ZO6😁 😊😊😊. I’ve been waiting for this car to come out ever sense Chevy said it’s going to be a nat aspirated Flat plane V8 and Chevy hit a home run with this one!! Incredible engineering, performance of a 1/2 million super car and looks incredible* Here is my issue with the ZO6 and why you will find yourself wanting to drive the 350 more after the “new” factor wears off in 6-12 mo. (Just like me with my DCT GT500) -350 feels and looks like the (race car) we grew up wanting to drive -350 still feels like you are driving a car that you might crash if you’re dumb -GT350 tremec 6 speed is the best manual I’ve ever driven and 90% of us can agree you will never get that driving experience with the ZO6 -350 much better driver visibility bubble when cruising in and out of traffic. -probably the biggest issue for me at least, is you see 10 C8’d after an hour drive with no real noticeable difference with the ZO6 (unless you know what too look for) and there’s something special about driving a Shelby 350r that looks much different than a standard mustang and you rarely see one even though it’s been built sense 2016. -now I’m not going to lie the ridiculous performance of the ZO6 might trump all the stuff I listed even for me but I’ve never driven one so who knows 🤷🏼‍♂️ As a ford guy I still love what Chevy did with the ZO6 and I would kill to have one but in 10-15 years the GT350 will be seen as the last naturally aspirated gas manual very special unique drivers car without all the computerized stuff sold before electric took over. ****buy gas V8 manual Chevy, ford, Dodge before it’s too late****

I’m jealous! :) I got a 07GT. wish it was a 5.0 at minimum but it’s got a Kenny bell supercharger so it quick but old. Lol and every year they are faster and faster. So 500+ hp was nice in 07. But it’s nothing compared to even just the new GTs. Let alone the Shelby’s. I have only seen a handful of GT350 and not one GT500. My goal is to be like you one day lol to not only have one Shelby but freaking 2!!!!!! One would sit and stay low miles and the other would get some boost added lol

Thank you for the owners insights of two American icons. Fwiw if you dump the runflats you’ll probably get the increase in steering feel you mention is slightly less communicative than what you would like. As a corvette enthusiast for several decades I found the compromise of runflats even in their latest iteration. I prefer the z06 yet that’s to be expected as I’m a long time corvette enthusiast and owner. The mustang gt350 and gt500 are also true american icons. Thank you again as I enjoyed your insights in this video.

I have a weird mix of cars: 2005 GTO and a 1993 NSX. Both have had their engines built and supercharged making 550rwhp~ and 500rwhp~ respectively. There are days that I enjoy the tire roasting bottom end TQ where I can sling the GTO around. And there are days that I enjoy the NSX at around 2900lbs and the engine and drivetrain over the rear wheels. I will say that I do miss my 2013 PRHT Club MX5 for the power hard top and 2500lbs.

Two different cars, the Shelby is a pony car on steroids with everything working right and at its limits. However its engine is still in the front and that is why the Corvette engineers finally hit a wall and the Vette had to go mid engine. Now it’s a true supercar. The engine, transmission, clutch and chassis are completely different.

Everybody talks about the GT350’s oil consumption issues in the earlier years, but wait till the new Z06 owners start hearing what sounds to be lifter ticking. My buddy has one and has already taken it back twice and I can’t figure out what the ticking noise is. It sounds pretty horrible.

Great job on the review! I am the proud owner of the 20' GT350R, 22' GT500, and the 19' Charger Scat Pack. WOULD LOVE TO ADD THE Z06 to the collection. You got me sold...I did track the 21' C8 Z51 in Las Vegas at the Exotics Racing, and I was not impressed. Tremendous understeer and breaks seem to fade. They did tell me that your beast was coming soon, and to wait until production was complete if I wanted a Corvette. That's all I'm missing now. Congrats and keep up the grt8 work and content. I love both vehicles and would never want to part with the Shelby….unless I could get a hold of a Z06, then maybe. I’m on a wait list for an ERay, which I hope to get with a year or two. A lot of reputable dealers have stopped taking orders as they realistically won’t be able to fill them for approximately 5 years and beyond. One of the largest volume dealers in Canada only got 10 allocations this year and they have a huge waiting list

The only Vehicle's I would ever buy are the 3rd Pedal 6 Speed Manual Transmission. Z06 is nothing to me, the C8 ZR1 could have 1,000+ hp and if it cost $60,000 for C8 I would rather buy the GT350, for $70,000 with the 526 hp it is more valuable to me. The hp is minimal, appearance is not important, Interior isn't important either. The 3rd Pedal 6 Speed Manual Transmission, is a $1 Million to me. In August 2022 I bought the only one with the following combinations spec. In the whole state of California, and they are the following : 1. White 2. V8 Mustang 3. 3rd Pedal Speed Manual Transmission 4. Was looking for MACH1 Handling Pack in White or 5. 2019 to 2020 GT350 Mustang in White. I wound up getting the 2022 Roush Mustang with the 3rd Pedal Speed Manual Transmission Rev-Match Tremec, Magneride Suspension, and Torsen Rear Differential. It is S/N :22.0001.450R very happy with it and will never sell her. Not even for $1 Million USA 👦👍🏎🏁🚩⛰️🏞🌲 a Ford Dealership wanted me to buy a GT500 I said the White GT350, or Mach1 Handling Pack, for $70,000 is better and if the GT500 760 hp, if sold for half price against the Mach1 or GT350. I would still buy the ones with the Manual Transmission. 👦👍🏎🏁🚩⛰️🏞🌲

My Rotors are 16.5" inches and has foot long Brembo 6 pot Brakes. The brakes being so big there's no spare tire, ( doughnuts won't clear the Calipers) therefore, no Jack, and tire to weigh the car down, and I Coast the stop. If it all Highway 🛣 I get 30 mpg 👦👍🏎🏁🚩

Turbos get too hot and due to personal experiences with Turbos. 4 cylinders with Turbos cost more money 💰 than running a V8 Mustang. I am all American and with Dodge being in control of Selantis the European Union with their awful Turbo V6's. There's a reason why Alpha Romero's Quality is 2nd worse to Fiat. Fiat and Renault owns Alpha Romero, and Maserati, which took Europeans Luxury Brands Worst Brand. Back to EV's search Lithium Ion mixed with water 💧 see results. Then imagine living or working in Manhattan, they have Hurricanes 🌀 the ocean surge and then floods the underground parking lots. Add EV's and wonder if the buildings above won't get affected. 👦👍🏎🏁🚩 Look at the videos, and wonder is all the melted plastic, and black smoke healthy. If EV's are not plugged in the cooling systems can't keep the Battery Packs to a nominal temperature. Therefore, at a Ford Dealership 5 Lightning trucks (EV's) caught fire, and in Junkyards, after they are in accidents Attendance in the Junkyards, say they catch fire 4 to 5 days after they were dropped off. But the regular gt350 is about equal to Camaro ss 1le, a z06 would obliterate it in every single way. The gt350r is typically around 80k with lower miles and if you’re able to afford a 80k vehicle you’re probably not far from affording one that’s 100k. I’m just saying people are acting like the same z06 isn’t a better performance car in every single sense is aggravating. The car out performs cars that cost twice as much as it does…this mustang isn’t in the same stratosphere

I do feel like the Shelby is very engaging and still mechanical in its approach to driving. I can only assume the Z06 is more digital in its driving feeling. But every time I’m out in the Shelby I just feel like the car should be illegal to drive. The sound and handling/braking/speed are very confidence inspiring and a good combination of parts working together in symbiosis. The Z06 is a special vehicle too and it’s great to see what American car companies can turn out in regards to sports cars.

If I had the money, I would love to own both. With that said, money aside, I don't think I am willing to REPLACE my R with a C8Z. A manual GT3 is a natural progression but the long gearing makes that magnificent 4.0 less enjoyable. If Z is 20 over MSRP, I think it's still the best b4b, but with 100 over, there are more special options. My only grumble against the Shelby is its build quality.

Great video! I will disagree with you on the wheels. I always swap my carbons on for a little each summer. I can tell the difference at 40 mph between the carbons and my signature. Less stress with the signature but not even close to the same response or feel.

Both of these I must say, i would buy if I had the means. Of all the cars available on the market, I would spend my money on these two cars before any others options. The GT350R I would absolutely purchase with that manual. For that Z06 money, I might consider a Viper ACR or Porsche GT3 RS or touring if I wanted another manual. But that Z06 is fast AF and sounds great. 3 of my 4 picks are American and that’s not because I’m American. It’s because America is beating Europe at their own game with the cars I mentioned. You could also throw in the FORD GT 05/06’ for another manual and the 17’ + for another world beater. America doing the damn thang!

Beautiful cars. What does a young man do when you already acquired rides of dreams for encore? The Mustang is for those in the know. Any Vette is special but this one just more so minus the silver wheels. I love them both but I like the understatedness of Mustang is like a Civic R it takes a good driver to really do it. Gorgeous Mustang. Perfection. And most never know what you got with it.

I guess I can see keeping the Mustang after getting a Z06 to have the manual experience , other then that I can't see why one would keep the Mustang otherwise , but it makes sense to row gears , they are also the best looking mustangs . But it's a bit redundant considering the z06 has space for stuff not making the Mustang much more useful unless you got babies . If you can afford both no foul .

For 100K or less, I would take a Camaro ZL1 1LE or a C7 ZO6. Nothing wrong with the R, but it would get man handled by the above. The C8 ZO6 has gone so far up in price, I don’t even consider it a reality anymore.

Most people don't really care about what car beats the 350 as at this point almost every car can beat another car, but that ZL1 or the C7 will never give you the feeling the Shelby 350 does, and that's where everyone always agrees, this car is a modern classic and will only continue to stay as good or better as time goes on, true manual analog raw unique sounding car with insane capability for a great value. Nothing else like it

Mustang all day, it doesnt sound like a ferrari wannabe, i like that it has its own unique sound and it has the best manual gearbox ever put in a muscle car. Also theres lots aftermarket twin turbo and supercharged kits. Shelby carbon wheels >>>> zo6 carbon wheels.

Cadillac was the first company to introduce the flat plane crank in 1923. Corvette used it because they basically reversed engineered the design of the engine that Ferrari produced for the 458.

Eddie, let me just say you have a great taste in cars and always delivering the best videos on KZbin. I find myself in bit of a situation where I’m in a position to buy a gt350 or gt350r now but can’t decide if R is worth the premium OR I can wait another six months and should be able to get into a C8 Z06 but there’s another car that I like very much AMG GTR so.. if folks on KZbin can give me with some rationale or perhaps you can help. I would appreciate it.

I like now at this point that you can actually tune The GT 350 and GT 500. I have the 500 and it has a ton of potential. The Corvettes are staying right where they are at because you can’t break into the ECU. I’d rather have something I can modify.

If I’m not mistaken the GT350/R sounds different than the Ferrari and the corvette sounds more similar is because Ford Performance changed the firing order whereas GM didn’t. Both the GT350/R and Corvette flat plane crank motors were designed after the Ferrari 458 and have a different firing order. The header system of the GT350/R is completely different than the Ferrari which I believe (could be mistaken) is not similar to the Corvette. I think the combination of the header design difference and the firing order of the GT350/R is the reason of the completely different exhaust note whereas the Corvette sounds very similar. I have a GT350 and truly wish my finances would allow me to also have a C8 Z06 but alas they don’t. So I’ll be content with having only the GT350.
