I compared these two head-to-head before making my choice. This vid was helpful. The Toyota is defiantly better looking and better handling. But my choice was based upon utility, traction, cargo room, and driver's view. I now am a proud owner of a 2021 Honda HR-V EX AWD.

Most reviews of the HR-V sing it's praises when mentioning it's handling characteristics. In fact this is the first that I've seen where someone was critical of that.

This little lady knows what she's talking about. Per my mom's request, I took my my to the Toyota dealer to check out some cars. My intention was to discourage her from buying a car so she wouldn't have a car payment. She picks out this CHR and I was amazed at the looks, functions, and safety of the vehicle. I knew it had to be something good cause this is a woman who never owned a vehicle that didn't have power leather seats. So we get to the numbers and I am shocked at how low her monthly payments would be. We had to play the game a little, but in the end, I saw her happier and safer than with any car I ever saw her in. She doesn't read manuals very well so I had to study the car for her to make sure she got the best of it. As I did, I grew to like it more and more. Within 1 week I bought one for myself and 2 weeks later my wife bought another for herself. We're not rich either. I traded in a beautiful 2015 Camero that I owed 17,000 on and my wife traded in 2 crappy vehicles that we had. In the end, after the price of my insurance dropping, my monthly payments for both new CHR's came to even out with the payments I was making on the Camero. Along with that I have an 8 year free maintenance warranty (includes oil changes) and life time power/trans. Of course, I would have had the Camero paid off sooner, but this deal was worth the extended time. No down payment either. I test drove others but this one stood out.

I have never seen a reviewer bash a Porsche or Ferrari because of it inability to go rockcrawling. So why in Gods earth do they think anyone who buys a 140hp, cvt equipped, subcompact CUV expected a sports car?? It was never intended as such. Lets be honest for a bit, if i wanted driving excitement I wouldnt be shopping this segment. These cars are supposed to be cheap to operate, practical, easy to drive. We cant expect a technoligical tour de force that handles like a Cayenne or Macan for just 20k. It just wont happen. And if the sales of these "boring" cars are anything to go by you reviewers might be completely out of phase with reality.

Was not expecting to hear “sucks” in a professional video. I find the HR-V relatively responsive in S mode around town. At least the HR-V is 100% practical, and no compromises made for style. Yes, some other markets get different features, but you might also get a smaller engine or no spare tire. It’s not like they get more features for the same money.

Serious question, why is the CHR considered a cuv and not a hatchback? It doesn't have awd. Does it have a certain ground clearance that makes it a cuv?

Super Dan Because it rides higher than a hatchback, and speaking of which, it does have AWD in other countries. Though I heard rumors for Toyota to put AWD and a Hybrid version into the C-HR here in North America really soon, but leather seats and the new Toyota Entune 3.0 infotainment system found in the 2018 Camry are rumored to be found in the 2019 C-HR.

Why does it matter if it's AWD to be cnsidered a CUV or not? The advantages of AWD vs front or rear wheel drive affects all the cars. AWD it's not the offroad 4 x 4, but something that several cars and CUVs and SUV can use.

I agree! I just bought a 2 tone 2019 Toyota C-HR XLE and LOVE IT! For 2019 they update the infotainment system and fixed that awkward back up camera. The thing is STUNNING to look at, loaded with safety features and fun to drive all wrapped up in that legendary Toyota quality! Take the CVT transmission. Toyota has been making and refining this transmission for about 20 years since its introduction on the Prius. Honda does not even make their own CVTs and outsources them from a subpar company. Also the thing people don't mention are the option Toyota TRD performance parts available for the C-HR. Toyota offers options to both improve the stance and handling of the car as well as increase horse power and torque. I will be getting all the TRD parts for my C-HR. For me and my family, this Toyota C-HR is the car we have been waiting for. I just spent hours detailing it and it is simply beautiful to look at. It has to be appreciate in person. I feel like I brought the car show home to me.

I prefer the HR-V. It's more original. Toyota has been copying many designs from Honda, and the HR-V is one of them. The front of the New Avanza is similar to the HR-V, and the back was used by Toyota for the New Innova. The C-HR? It copied the HR-V's name partially and copied the rear of a Civic Hatch

IMO, the Toyo suffers from what I consider "over aggressive styling" ...this compromised the important aspects like cargo room and visibility. I think the intended target for these vehicles 'should' have their preference priorities leaning more towards functionality then style. That being said, these type of cars will always be lacking something - too small to do what SUV's can offer, too big to be highly gas efficient, or sporty.
@kevinalan1335
@kevinalan1335 7 жыл бұрын
The Toyota C-HR doesn't offer a manual. I own an SX4 which is like a fore barer to the CUV class of vehicles. Like these offerings it's not particularly powerful but the manual option really gives it much needed life. The ability to hold a gear and abruptly downshift to get out of a situation or just sling shot out of a corner is a huge positive. There is already many reasons why the Honda HR-V is the better vehicle but one of its most appealing features over the C-HR is the manual option. I think Jodi may have had a different impression had the HR-V she drove been a manual instead of the CVT.

Honda needs to go ahead and update the HR-V That old R18 (1.8L SOHC i-VTEC) engine debuted in North America in the 2006 Honda Civic. It has no low end torque to speak of but by now it's so refined it will never die. It should use the K20 (2L DOHC i-VTEC) found in the DX-EX 10th Gen Civics originally found in the 2001 Acura RSX (Honda Integra DC5 outside NA) That engine is even more refined and invincible. That will provide the extra power (& likely better economy as the engine won't have to work as hard) that people want. Add Honda Saftey Sensing, Android Auto & Apple Carplay & a Touring trim with those awesome full LED Headlights and the C-HR, CX-3, Juke & Trax won't stand a chance. Acura should also bring the CDX over from China and be the first with a luxury CUV. Use the 8 DCT from the ILX/TLX & the Premium tuned 1.5 Turbo from the 17 Civic SI & Honda/Acura will have a huge advantage.

Subaru Crosstrek wins! Yes the CHR has active safety and cool styling (better than the Juke, which isn't hard) but Wow, this was totally biased. The main point of a CUV is practicality and capability, not styling and driving dynamics. Flexible interior space and AWD options makes the honda a no-brainer - otherwise you might as well get a cheaper, sportier, more spacious hatchback with decent visibility.

After boot deepening , my chr has 438 cubic litres of boot space! lots of pace can be recovered by ditching the spare tire and all the foam compartments below the original boot floor and side-walls

The correct choice was neither. Drop the 1.5L Turbo & the 2017 Civic / CR-V head unit into the HR-V and now will talk.

While the HR-V is immensely practical, it's not like the C-HR is worse than competitors, it actually sits pretty well in the segment - its boot is way larger than a CX-3 and Juke. Funny how the North American C-HR gets that diabolical touch screen - even the one we receive here in Australia is better (but still worse than the European one). Totally agreed about the verdict though, the C-HR is Toyota's best car in years.

CHR is obviously wining most part of this match because it came out years after HRV, they have tons of time to develop a better car than HRV. Honda had always been fast on car production. They always one step ahead of manufacture. When it comes to durability, nothing beats a Toyota. I mean the suspension, driveshaft, every parts last bit longer than Honda.

I like the Ch-r design but it is such a dealbreaker because Toyota decontented it so much for the US market. No leather seats, hybrid drivetrain, moonroof, satellite radio, navigation, or a nice infotainment screen that are available in other markets, so incredibly disappointing.

The HR-V is a car for USE. No comparison really. Disappointed Toyota didn't make a large cargo space and better versatility. I don't need 'style' points, I need functionality. Looks old?? Last car I bought had hand brakes so I'm not complaining.

I don't think she understands what a crossover means! Your supposed to be able to go off road with a crossover as well as around town. She loves the low center of gravity the Toyota has which is the last thing you want off road, plus it doesn't even have AWD as an option! She didn't even mention the excellent back up camera and side camera the Honda has. Very biased comparison!
