I compared these two head-to-head before making my choice. This vid was helpful. The Toyota is defiantly better looking and better handling. But my choice was based upon utility, traction, cargo room, and driver's view. I now am a proud owner of a 2021 Honda HR-V EX AWD.

I have never seen a reviewer bash a Porsche or Ferrari because of it inability to go rockcrawling. So why in Gods earth do they think anyone who buys a 140hp, cvt equipped, subcompact CUV expected a sports car?? It was never intended as such. Lets be honest for a bit, if i wanted driving excitement I wouldnt be shopping this segment. These cars are supposed to be cheap to operate, practical, easy to drive. We cant expect a technoligical tour de force that handles like a Cayenne or Macan for just 20k. It just wont happen. And if the sales of these "boring" cars are anything to go by you reviewers might be completely out of phase with reality.

This little lady knows what she's talking about. Per my mom's request, I took my my to the Toyota dealer to check out some cars. My intention was to discourage her from buying a car so she wouldn't have a car payment. She picks out this CHR and I was amazed at the looks, functions, and safety of the vehicle. I knew it had to be something good cause this is a woman who never owned a vehicle that didn't have power leather seats. So we get to the numbers and I am shocked at how low her monthly payments would be. We had to play the game a little, but in the end, I saw her happier and safer than with any car I ever saw her in. She doesn't read manuals very well so I had to study the car for her to make sure she got the best of it. As I did, I grew to like it more and more. Within 1 week I bought one for myself and 2 weeks later my wife bought another for herself. We're not rich either. I traded in a beautiful 2015 Camero that I owed 17,000 on and my wife traded in 2 crappy vehicles that we had. In the end, after the price of my insurance dropping, my monthly payments for both new CHR's came to even out with the payments I was making on the Camero. Along with that I have an 8 year free maintenance warranty (includes oil changes) and life time power/trans. Of course, I would have had the Camero paid off sooner, but this deal was worth the extended time. No down payment either. I test drove others but this one stood out.

Serious question, why is the CHR considered a cuv and not a hatchback? It doesn't have awd. Does it have a certain ground clearance that makes it a cuv?
@thecriticalthinkeroutsidet49477 жыл бұрын
Super Dan Because it rides higher than a hatchback, and speaking of which, it does have AWD in other countries. Though I heard rumors for Toyota to put AWD and a Hybrid version into the C-HR here in North America really soon, but leather seats and the new Toyota Entune 3.0 infotainment system found in the 2018 Camry are rumored to be found in the 2019 C-HR.

I agree! I just bought a 2 tone 2019 Toyota C-HR XLE and LOVE IT! For 2019 they update the infotainment system and fixed that awkward back up camera. The thing is STUNNING to look at, loaded with safety features and fun to drive all wrapped up in that legendary Toyota quality! Take the CVT transmission. Toyota has been making and refining this transmission for about 20 years since its introduction on the Prius. Honda does not even make their own CVTs and outsources them from a subpar company. Also the thing people don't mention are the option Toyota TRD performance parts available for the C-HR. Toyota offers options to both improve the stance and handling of the car as well as increase horse power and torque. I will be getting all the TRD parts for my C-HR. For me and my family, this Toyota C-HR is the car we have been waiting for. I just spent hours detailing it and it is simply beautiful to look at. It has to be appreciate in person. The Toyota C-HR doesn't offer a manual. I own an SX4 which is like a fore barer to the CUV class of vehicles. Like these offerings it's not particularly powerful but the manual option really gives it much needed life. The ability to hold a gear and abruptly downshift to get out of a situation or just sling shot out of a corner is a huge positive. There is already many reasons why the Honda HR-V is the better vehicle but one of its most appealing features over the C-HR is the manual option. I think Jodi may have had a different impression had the HR-V she drove been a manual instead of the CVT.
@AutoGuide7 жыл бұрын

Honda needs to go ahead and update the HR-V That old R18 (1.8L SOHC i-VTEC) engine debuted in North America in the 2006 Honda Civic. It has no low end torque to speak of but by now it's so refined it will never die. It should use the K20 (2L DOHC i-VTEC) found in the DX-EX 10th Gen Civics originally found in the 2001 Acura RSX (Honda Integra DC5 outside NA) That engine is even more refined and invincible. That will provide the extra power (& likely better economy as the engine won't have to work as hard) that people want. Add Honda Saftey Sensing, Android Auto & Apple Carplay & a Touring trim with those awesome full LED Headlights and the C-HR, CX-3, Juke & Trax won't stand a chance. Acura should also bring the CDX over from China and be the first with a luxury CUV. Use the 8 DCT from the ILX/TLX & the Premium tuned 1.5 Turbo from the 17 Civic SI & Honda/Acura will have a huge advantage.
@alf66336 жыл бұрын
IMO, the Toyo suffers from what I consider "over aggressive styling" ...this compromised the important aspects like cargo room and visibility. I think the intended target for these vehicles 'should' have their preference priorities leaning more towards functionality then style. That being said, these type of cars will always be lacking something - too small to do what SUV's can offer, too big to be highly gas efficient, or sporty.

i am a professional mechanic with over 30 years experience - you might want to listen. i own 2 hondas and a toyota. i am not brand loyal. chr has a 2.0 with a cvt. if you don't know what a cvt is - it's a constant variable transmission. if you don't know what that is - do some reading before you buy. it could save you literally thousands by NOT buying one yet. i have driven several cars with cvt's and i really like them - BUT THEY ARE NOT RELIABLE YET. honda began putting cvt's in the crv's in 2014. i bought the rav 4 instead of the crv because the crv has a cvt. the cvt is the best transmission idea ever invented but the technology is too new and unreliable. don't buy a car so it can stay in the shop. i don't spend my money so the automakers can perfect their technology on my dime. the engine and transmission package in the rav 4 is bulletproof. the rear visibility in the chr is very restricted. it's almost exactly a mini - rav 4. i like the chr. the 2.0 is not a deal breaker but the cvt is.

CHR is obviously wining most part of this match because it came out years after HRV, they have tons of time to develop a better car than HRV. Honda had always been fast on car production. While the HR-V is immensely practical, it's not like the C-HR is worse than competitors, it actually sits pretty well in the segment - its boot is way larger than a CX-3 and Juke. hmm... we only have 1.2T for CH-R in Taiwan. We do have AWD available. I don't like the style of CH-R but I like pretty much everything else. It would be perfect for me if I have the HR-V's look with a CH-R's driving performance.

We have 2020 Honda HR-V Sport, and really love it👍 Honda Sensing feature which was over looked, Is standard feature, basically make the car autonomous driving vehicle...Also standard is 18 inches all season Michelin tires👍 Very fun SUV to drive... The video does not express comfort and fun driving vehicle👍🇨🇦

I ended up buying an HR-V manual because it kills anything in its class as far as cargo volume goes. It's cargo space is competitive with the next class size up. Also, I would say the clear loser here is the CH-R. It's not available with a manual transmission, no awd, has terrible total cargo space with the seats folded, and weighs about 500 lbs more than the HR-V. If you want something in this class and have to have a "sporty" driving experience the CX-3 is the one to get, especially with a manual or if you are concerned with power there is the Juke with turbo power standard. I will say that the CH-R does look cool but its just too impractical and too overweight.

I'm not crazy about these vehicles. Underpowered, small, cheap inside. Just go for a rav4 hybrid. Put the 1.5 turbo from the Civic in the hrv and maybe I'd consider it.

Definite comparison between Ying and Yang. If you want more style and flair, get the Toyota, if you want fairways and greens, par golf, get the Honda,

"I doubt she can drive a manual transmission" -- Why don't you find out something about Jodi first? I would bet good money that she would drive circles around you. But then, outside of having a big mouth, you are too mentally lazy to actually learn something on your own before commenting.

I bought a 2018 HRV with awd, and to me it is the perfect vehicle. I average 31.5 mpg mixed driving. I can find NOTHING to complain about.

Toyota should have added the moonroof to it. And a better powered motor. I love the look of it otherwise.
