It's so funny only thing I showed him was the Engine Maintenance required message and he said oh yes you need to have the bypass changed like without even putting my Rav4 on the scanner. Great video, had searched several videos to determine what the problem was. Your video identified the issue. Took it to Toyota dealership for repair, $99.00 for diagnostic to verify the issue. They wanted $763.00 to make the repair. I would still owe them $348.55 after what my extended warranty covered. I paid their diagnostic fee and took it to another repair shop. It will cost me $93.98 + another $50.00 diagnostic fee after the warranty pays their part. Thanks for the diagnosting describing the problem.

I just want to tell you thank you so much for your video. It helped me out so much. I did also bleed the system from air using the no spill funnel. I kept opening up your video back and forth during the repair to make sure im doing it right. Thank you for saving me $1000 at the dealership

Thank you. You saved my mother in law 1k on her 2020rav with only 18kmi. Even though the car had no codes just the message and was loosing coolant. I went ahead and changed the hose.(out of stock at a lot of dealers). Code was gone, fixed! Only thing different I did was remove the battery and tray after draining the radiator to work from above. @shaunnal2560 The first coolant bypass valve is the value with gray colored clip and is likely the issue causing engine maint required on dash. The right valve (w teal clip) is just a right angled hose connector, not a bypass valve. The second coolant bypass valve is underneath the battery.

This is why you always go to KZbin and/or your mechanic friends! Toyota wanted to charge me $100 just to get the code. I said no thanks, took it to my buddies at the dealership I use to work at and had him scan it. Told me the part is anywhere from $60-80 and that he would be able to take care of it for me (I'll probably slide him a $50 or buy him some food, whichever he prefers lol), whereas who knows how much Toyota would charge me to do it.

I understand the bleeding process is to run the engine over 1200 rpm for a period of time and move the heater controls in a certain position. The car care nut has a video on this. Any other procedure will not bleed the system properly and cause other problems.

Just finished replacing bypass hose... the most difficult part for me was dropping tool inside the engine bay and getting access to the 2 ten mm screw holding the bracket on LOL

Nice man! Yea, the 2 10mm bolts can be a little tricky because there's not much room, and you need steady hands. To be able to do this job at home with a jack and jack stands is impressive.

After replacement, I've seen the code clear on its own, and the message will go away as well. Or you can disconnect the battery after replacement, and that should clear the code.

I wouldn't recommend prying it off. On the Rav 4, the new valve comes with the hose attached already. The Camry and Corolla the valve comes separate from the hose. Prying the hose off the Rav4 and reinstalling the old hose, you run the risk of the hose coming off when the vehicle is hot and the cooling system under pressure.

Excellent video, I wanted to ask a question for a 2020 Corolla with 4 cylinder. By any change will this coolant bypass valve Cause the vehicle not start but crank. I have the maintenance required light also on but I also been getting these other code U0100/U0101/U010087 and also on the indicator with driver malfunction unit, brake override malfunction, brake low power. With the ecm/tcmbeing close to that valve or possibly share a wire or pin, would this by any chance cause the vehicle to crank but not start? New battery and the stop fuse check and was good but still replaced.

Hey, thank you for the super thanks. The bypass valve failure WILL NOT cause the engine to crank and not start. The U0100 is a lost communication code with the ECM(engine control moddule) that can cause the symptoms you are describing.

Hey, it's easier to get the part from the dealer. Just go to the parts department and give them your VIN, and they will give you the correct part number, and you can proceed to do it yourself.

No, you will be fine. You can fix it after the road trip. To simply put, the bypass valve you see in the video is to help the engine warm up quicker, it WILL NOT cause it to overheat.

hello, I had the same issue on my toyota camry 2020. problem diagnose by dealer but dealar was expensive they quote around 1000 usd.i bought the part from the dealer and replace it outside but the light is not go away even after replacing. Double check to make sure you plugged the connector in. Or go to autozone and see if they scan and clear the codes for you with their scanner.

I know your intention was to avert people from spending hundreds at the dealership just because Toyota used junky part for this generation Rav4 but MAN, this is not what a newb like myself can do. My 2020 Rav4, with 42k miles, had the "Engine Maintenance Required" warning popped up this morning right after I started the engine, with engine check light OFF just like demo car in this video. I searched online and called the dealership, they wanted $780. But when I started the car this afternoon, the warning message was gone. Soon after I got home, I used an OBDII scanner and turned out there was ZERO code. I have no clue what's going on with my car now. Will have to see if the message pops up again tomorrow morning.☹

It sounds like a symptom of a bad bypass valve. Sometimes, it will act up intermittently.

⁠@@TheYotaChannel I had my AC on for over 20mins today and the warning message came back on. 😢 It seems like turning on the AC triggers this sucker cuz then I restarted the car the warning didn’t come back for another 30 mins drive to home. Hopefully the ongoing class action lawsuit filed on the coolant bypass valve gets settled in plaintiffs favor soon and I can get my money back.

Just had my water pump changed after my first ENGINE MAINTENANCE req’d LIGHT came on. 4 months later & it comes back on - I assume this the reason being that most rav owners are experiencing the same. Another inconvenience 🙁

O.K. I went to another video and here is the explanation. I had used a mirror to locate the tab towards the windshield side of the connector about halfway down and in the middle. I had to press only in the middle of the connector, not the whole back side and was able to pull up. You will see in the mirror why you only push in the middle. Hopefully, this guy will learn to do a better job in the future

hahahahaha ... I can't either. But from what I'm hearing if you have time to sit for a minute to allow your car time to warm up it doesn't matter if you replace the valve or not. The valve won't cause your vehicle to overheat from what the author of this video says soooo.

I did it myself. I bought the valve from Amazon for 33 bucks. The only hardest job was the bottom hose. It took me a while to take it off. Another parts were easy . Ty for the video. I save big bucks 😍

This seems like it should be a recall that should be fixed for no charge, I probably have the same problem since it just started a week ago and most likely the culprit, I have a third party warranty so let’s see what they actually cover or maybe I will complain to Toyota corporate
