I liked what you had to say and found all your points valid. Teresa I build a hackintosh PC for these reasons: it was fun, and I didn't have enough funds for a real Mac PC. Personally I like the Hackintosh I am using at this time because it does well for me editing h.264 footage. I can add effects and get very smooth playback without needing to render the footage all the time. Which gives me a much better editing experience. But I like the processing power of the 12 Core Mac Pro that I also own. I can't fully utilize those 12 Cores at this time but that doesn't mean I won't be able to in the near future. Good rant and thank you for your candor. It is impressive. Also this is the first time I have seen one of your videos in a higher res than 720P. Wow, the things I noticed. Like that screen on the side showing you possibly recording the footage directly to your PC? Good work again and I would like to see you post videos more often.

I do want to build a Hackintosh after not building PCs in over 15 years. I do photography, so I don't want a monster Mac Pro killer, but i do want decent performing Hackintosh with plenty of internal storage. I want it to be AMD Ryzen and have fully working Thunderbolt 3. What do you recommend? I don't do any gaming so i don't need a crazy powerful GPU either.

Hey Teresa! Since I'm working on your latest Mac Pro killer Hack as a video en design professional that demands a lot from a system I thought I'd give you my thoughts. Personally I would let go of the whole comparison with the current Mac Pro config and see what could be achieved with the available 'consumer' components. I would be more than happy to spend around 3k for a machine that is for example 40% faster than the current setup, so a significant step up. Another major quality you can deliver which is not to be underestimated is of course the software side of it, an EFI folder that makes a hack reliable and stable. It would be great if you would offer that support again if you go for a new build. I would also like to add that I think that if we can, we as hack-users might help you with for example testing components or software.

Tnx for as always great and honest videos without holding back ;-). I agree with you completely on the possibility or impossibility to build something like the new MacPro without sacrificing something. I have since about a year followed a completely different path however that has some very exciting possibilities for a completely different future hackintosh part. And that is running OSX as a virtual machine on server grade hardware. It removes a lot of the restriction compared to running bare metal and is extreeeeeeemely stable on the hackintosh front. You can run any cpu , or multi cpu's you like , assign as many cores , memory , cpu's (pasthru) , hba's etc etc as you like . I am running now 2 OSX instances on my dual xeon (unraid) supermicro machine, with all 10G ether, Native AMD Vega GPU's (passthru to the VM's) , 128GB mem, fast ZFS SSD storage etc etc. VM's are hourly snapshotted (zfs) and only deltas send to a second machine offsite. I can spin up new OSX machines in 2 seconds (maybe 4 if slow ;-) to test upgrades etc etc. Or roll back s tupid clover mistake i made in the same 2 seconds. On one of these VM's( my main workhorse) i run mojave and Davinci Resolve as a Render node. The other an older El Capitan for some legacy MEdia management server software. Its a whole new world and i never looked back at native hackintoshing. The remaining resources (or all if the vm's are not in use, you can use for plex, web/mail servers , etc etc. (have about 20 dockers running next to this and a small linux VM as mailserver) In the end THIS is my ideal Hackntoshing world and future proof. I recently helped a friend to do similar for his production house (color grader) on AMD Ryzens. A VM does not care so just as easy as on intel. He is super happy and his VM is his most stable hackintosh he ever build. (same for me, never crashed EVER on my VM's) Anyway, just wanted to share this with you as just another look at the Hackintoshing world. Keep up the good work and am looking forward to your next great stuff. !!!

Excellent video as always. I would like to see it broken down by use-case: audio professional, graphic designer; video editor, 3D animator, game designer. Something like that. I fall in the 3D animator/game designer use-case (with a bit of audio using Logic etc). Multiple GPUs for GPU rendering (currently only AMD ProRender is supported, but soon Octane and Redshift rendering) is one use case I am very interested in. Also game and realtime cinematics development in Unreal and Unity. I currently have a PC sitting alongside my Hackintosh (built with your great tutorials, of course) for some of these tasks now since they are currently PC-only (eg Octane rendering using Nvidia cards). Next year when these companies release their AMD versions of the renderers, I would love to switch to all OSX.

I should add software list I think: Affinity Suite, Adobe CC, FCPX, Motion, Logic Pro, Cinema 4D, Maya, Houdini, Fusion360, Prorender, Unreal, Unity, Visual Studio Code, (hopefully soon Redshift, Octane) are key software. (Cinema 4D works great on my newly built Designare, 5700XT, BTW). I'm also using a Focusrite Scarlett USB Audio Interface, and some MIDI stuff.

It's close to impossible to beat Mac Pro. However, for the same config(expecially cpu), Hackintosh can offer much better value (1/3 of the price of the mac pro to get the same or beat cpu performance if not 24/28 cores). The bigger Q here is do we need that much of CPU/GPU performance. x299 + 2/3 RX5700Xt should be overkill for 99.999% of people.
@Tigerex966
@Tigerex966 4 жыл бұрын
You can beat the Mac pro in almost everything for cheaper. The problem is it natively runs osx and apples final cut, logic. and a lot of other exclusive software. Pc world can now give you pcie 4, upcoming Nvdia cuda gpus, and quadro, 64 cores for just $4k, And Windows is actually pretty stable, and has many of the same apps available, and some good exclusive ones. I think the best thing about the Mac Pro is that it runs osx, and is expandable, as that is hard to come by. It still has some bad things, like the t2 chip. which apple could use to brick your machine. No ability to run older version of osx. Older osx versions are much more stable, and run 32 bit plugins and apps. No ability to add hard drive inside unless you buy apples custom adapters. Unlikevthevitiginal Mac Pro. Apple seems to be saying no one can add anything Or repair our products, unless we make some money off of them. Osx is becoming locked down like iOS. It is getting harder to run third party apps because apple wants 30% revenue cut of all apps on the machine. Luckily they did not lock memory and pcie ssds to apple only. I am hoping they come out with a mid tower 4 pcie slots i7 or i9 or and.. And that they get rid of the 8 core base model as it is already an embarrassment. . The Mac pro should start at 12 cores or higher, with 64gb or higher standard, and 2tb ssd or higher, and GPU wise a vega 2 16gb or higher at the $6000 base price and apple will still make money on it. It should be lowered to $5000 at the most with the above specs. Take care everyone and enjoy your macs and hackintoshe's😻

Dear Teresa! I am thinking of building a Hackintosh and I watched almost all of Your videos (both KZbin channels). I think You are doing a wonderful job and Your videos are very helpful! Concerning Your question(s) on the video material above: 1. I think Intel now lost somehow the right track. Almost all their current consumer desktop i3, i5, i7 and i9 processors are faulty if I understand well the article below: www.laptopmag.com/news/critical-intel-cpu-flaw-affects-millions-of-laptops-and-its-unpatchable The 10th generation i9 CPU-s can match the raw performance of the AMD Ryzen 9 series CPU-s, but with almost double power consumption if we can believe the preliminary test results. Than the socket will be changed now for the new Intel CPU-s, older motherboards cannot be upgraded with the upcoming Intel CPU-s. 2. If the things above are right, than remains the AMD Ryzen 9 series for the average Hackintosh builder, who wants performance and is thinking for 2-3 years in advance. I am a professional musician, symphony orchestra conductor, pianist, composer and arranger. Sometimes I am doing also some video footage and I use Final Cut Pro on my MacBook Pro (15' 2013 late - Geforce GT 750M 2 Gb). I use Logic Pro X and Audacity mostly for audio tasks and AVID Sibelius for score writing. Since I bought recently a 4K camera (Sony FDR - AX700) and my MacBook is not enough strong and does not have enough storage e space for such a demanding work I plan to invest in a Hackintosh computer. I work mostly with H.264 or H.265 files and sometimes with raw video files also. What I search in building a new Hackintosh: a powerful build BUT with moderate power usage (AMD Ryzen 9 definitely in advantage compared to the Intel i9 CPU-s under load) with modern and power efficient AMD NAVI graphic Card (AMD Radeon Sapphire Pulse RX 5700 8 GB or AMD Radeon Sapphire Pulse RX 5700 XT 8 GB). I don't know if a strong AMD Ryzen 9 Hackintosh can beat the 2019 Mac Pro in any area, but I guess a configuration like this could be the closest to the new Mac Pro. Thanks for reading my message!

I admit that my dream Mac is probably very specific to me, but I’m a musician who needs nothing but fast CPU and fast disk access and lots and lots of ram. I don’t care about graphics, and I don’t need a lot of extra PCI expansion capability. I wish I could have an affordable Mac Pro, or an iMac Pro minus the screen, or a mega Mac mini where Apple didn’t compromise by miniaturizing everything.

I love all of these videos being a Music Producer/Computer Tech. I've worked in sales selling mostly PC Parts and Apple iMac/Macbook Pros. I always suggest Apple Products for Casual/Family-Home/College Student users. However, when I interact with heavy production clients I always push Custom builds (to meet their needs for a better price). I tell them "If you are comfortable and patient Morgonaut KZbin Channel can help you get all your components synergized and BIOS setups in order for maximum performance and reliability for 1/3rd the cost of Apple Certified Products." The responses are always pleasant and extremely grateful. Even tho sometimes my boss doesn't always appreciate it since the commission of the Apple Products is pretty Hefty.

Hackintosh started out as a poor mans mac for people how could not afford the 2009 mac. I read that the apps that run on the 2019 mac apex with 12-cores and 64gb of ram. So you don’t need a 24-core CPU because the OSX apps don’t benefit from it. It’s like having a Lamborghini on a 70mph highway. You don’t benefit from it. A car is meant to get you from point A to point B safely. If you can not get to your destination safely the car is no good. So rather than trying to build a “Mac Pro Killer” why don’t you build a nice ms-windows computer that can reliably compare with a Mac Pro 2019. Use only the best components. Steve Jobs said “build the best computer and don’t settle for anything less”.

cpu for audio, low latency, is fine for me, $3000-$5000 or so, wish amd 32 and 64 core would work with thunderbolt or newer high core i7's i9's. prefer mac osx before catalina, although if not possible windows will have to do. there are now many mac pro and other unique cases. gpu does not matter at all. i hate the t2 chip and mandatory apple ssd installed or it will not boot. and i hate not being able to run earlier osx versions on the new mac pro.

I want to buy a pre-built machine like the 2019 Mac Pro but for half the price or less. I don't want what you called the "circus lights" or water/liquid cooled system either. I am having trouble finding a pre-built system (8-12 core) that will, for the most part, be compatible to just work as a hackintosh. So I'll be interested in a base line model that is pre-built. I understand it can't compete in term of RAM, PCI slots, video cards, etc. but I can use it for Development / VMs / FCP. If anyone has some leads please reply. Thx

@@MorgonautHackintosh I have been looking to upgrade my home server that is currently a 2018 Mac Mini, i7, 10g networking, attached to an OWC Thunderbay 4 with 2 Seagate Exos 12 TB and 2 Exos 14 TB low power drives. I choose Seagate Exos Enterprise-class drives for the reliability rating and low power consumption with 24/7 operation. Prior to that was a 2012 Mini i7 and it still runs great with its limited horsepower. I like the Mac Mini because it is very power efficient and quiet but, without a GPU it’s starting to lag while multi streaming 4K content on Plex. I was going to add an eGPU to combat this problem but it would cost me more annually in power consumption running another power supply 24/7 for eGPU alongside the Mac Mini and OWC Thunderbay. I use MacOS as a server OS because my family and I are heavily invested in the Mac Eco system, such as OTA Time Machine backups, iCloud integration, Homekit, etc. I would love to see you build an Intel Hackintosh with MacOS supported parts, that way future security upgrades will go smooth if using the AFS format. This server will also run HomeBridge, 2 VM’s to replace 2 other desktops, one being a dedicated Time Machine host for all the remote backup’s and the other to replace my 2014 Macbook Pro that is docked to a Thunderbolt Display to save desk space. If anyone can come up with a solution it’s Teresa! #MorgonautLOVE

Great Video Teresa as always, I was thinking of using the parts and information from your previous videos to build the 14 Core IMac Pro killer but I figured that I'd wait to see what build you would come with next since the 2019 Mac Pro was going to be released. I'm so happy you did this video because the machine I'd like to build would have to be a dual boot machine since the programs I use in my professional life (40+ Hrs/week) are mainly on windows, programs like (Autodesk suite of programs for 3D CAD design and rendering). I also DJ, edit/produce music, and recently began to dabble in video editing, my preferred platform for this is Mac OS because of its ease of use. Up till recently, I've been using a mac mini with parallels desktop for windows programs this setup definitely doesn't work for me anymore I need something faster and more reliable. Any information you can provide would be helpful, Thanks in advance.

Honestly would be such a bad investment for anyone to get a fully configured mac pro for like 75.000k Computing technology is changing too fast, and there is no way anyone would take proffit out of such investment without being tempted to just get something else much better or more efficient in the next 3/4 years... its my suspicion that apple will release a high end cpu for its workstation in a near future, we all know the current technology of cpu's is becoming obsolete and there is very few space to increase the performance and speed... Photons processors also known as optical cpu's will be 10 times faster than current ones and be 3 times more energy efficient. iin a few years motherboards will not have even dimms of memory, processors will have integrated memory and gpu.... it will be a wonderfull time to have laptops.
