They definitely should call it a sports sedan if it has a sloping roof and if it doesn’t, then can it a sedan. Where’s my magic wand? Great review, thanks!

Wow the hybrid system is getting really close to that of my 2010 Prius. And the 48v system suggests you can get replacement batteries at Harbor Freight from their line of weed wackers. Very practical, I love it!! ❤️

That "pod" around the licence plate is tacked on. It's not fitted to the Euro versions. Must be to comply with a US law which I'm guessing is to do with how far the bumper sticks out and/or where.

There is another reply within comments mentioning US regulations...but....to me....it looks like someone (maybe from MBUSA) made an aesthetic choice to fill up the space that is there for euro style license plates...since this and the CarWow video were both shot during the day...if the lights that illuminate the rear plates for euro plates is too far apart....then, that "pod" is there to hold and illuminate small plates used in US and a few other countries...just a guess...

@GamingTV Plates are required both on the front and the rear in all of the European countries I know of, whereas it's a mixed bag in the US. Either way, that has nothing to do with it as plates on the rear are required both places.

Good review! My only nitpicks are that the bulk of that tech is available in the E-class and that the interior is much more E than S. Difference is the standard features are a bit more plentiful. Base price just under $72K; A nice one can be had for about $80K, but as you know, the options list is long and it's not much trouble to cross into $90k territory with a few extra box clicks. Love your cadence and delivery and I look forward to more of your vids.

The CLS is a coupe ish version of the E Class. The interior is not supposed to be like an S. Just like all CLS models before it.

FYI, the "pod" around the rear license plate is required for our market due to regulations stating that cars need to be able to absorb low impact speeds. This means the bumper pods absorb the impact so there is no damage at low speeds, and also protect the incoming car. Europe does not have this requirement. Maybe it doesn't look the best, but I'd rather have it.

I love how the screen is below dash versus Audi and BMWs "ipad" slab. Mercedes interior is so well thought out. I do think the number of vents is overkill on the new interior design. I think it was done to fill the space. Who needs 4 vents in the middle of the car?

Love the review, Antuan you are a great presenter! I agree it isn't a coop, but technically it is a coupé. A coupé has always been a sloped roof vehicle with slim b-pillars usually with two doors, but not always, hence the CLS and 4-series Grancoupe. Sorry to be a pedant on the internet, I do love your videos and I wish you a happy christmas!

I just got this car a month ago, and I must say that I love it so far. I have yet to see another on the road, and it’s much sexier in person. I love that the CLS was always a limited production vehicle, and it’s a great first Benz for me. I loved my BMW, but once this car was unveiled at the LA Auto Show last year, I knew I was going to get this car the second it hit my local dealer; and that I did 🧐

@ 1:09 That "pod" area around back isn't purposefully designed that way. It's put there to make the rear bumper rounder and more pedestrian friendly (you can thank US regulations). EU variants of this car don't have that and look much better.
@Edward-ns2qv
@Edward-ns2qv 5 жыл бұрын
that "pod" looks tacked on because it is tacked out, for government regulations here in the US. It is not on cars in other markets. It has to do with some law about low speed crash test and how it must not damage the bumper.
@Fanzindel
@Fanzindel 5 жыл бұрын
Edward yet, they could have incorporated that into a US specific bumper that doesn’t make it look tacked on like everyone else but they chose not to. The best or nothing.

Have heard anyone talk about how oddly the vehicle starts. No actual crank of the starter, so the engine just explodes on very noticeably.

The styling is not fully resolved in my opinion. The entry-level A-class will make the styling common in a few months. But then again, the latest Audi A7 is no improvement over it's predecessor either style-wise. They both could be better.

Gotta love those German automakers for pushing the lame "4-door coupé" slogan. The CLS, Audi A7, BMW 6 series & VW CC. Heck, why not market the Dodge Challenger or Honda Accord coupe as a "2-door sedan" with all that head & leg room in the back?
