Now retired i bought a motus 2019 unused from a cash converters shop for just over a third of the new price! Looking over all the parts I'm very impressed with the quality and it's fitted with a 400 watt battery. I'm really looking forward to using it and will appreciate the assistance as i live in a hilly part of Yorkshire. So after 50 years I've gone full circle and returned to a bicycle after swapping to a motor bike at 16. Just found a local club i can join and cycle with people my own age.

Can the battery be charged without being in the frame? I plan to leave the bike in my cellar as I live in an apartment. I definitely can't carry the bike up 6 flights of stairs.

Yes, absolutely.

Get a foldable

@@techtitanuk5609It is a heavy bike even without the battery but a foldable just isn't in the same class as a 700C wheeled road bike; nowhere near.

Raleigh electric bikes are single use bikes. Their battery cannot be replaced and the company advice is to buy a new one if the battery dies.

Absolute rubbish. Where on earth did you hear that nonsense. The battery is removable and made up of 18650 cells and a controller and there are many places that specialise in replacing those cells. Of course the same applies to virtually ALL ebike batteries but there is nothing to stop you converting your bike to any other brand of battery. All it takes is a bit of wiring knowledge and replacement of the battery carrier. You can even wire in any second 3rd party battery using the rear carrier on the cross bar model. If you want to wire both batteries together you would need a suitable controller. My advice would be to use a third party battery on it's own simply by disconnecting the frame battery when depleted. I have had the base model for three years now and once you develop a decent riding regime it is possible to get 125+ out of the basic 300w battery. Simply switch off the power once you are making decent headway Ando my use ECO mode most of the time if you can. I live in a relatively flat area with few, what I would call real, hills. Plus, I am physically disabled and suffering from heart failure. Add to that my almost 20 stone weight (due to lack of exercise during the pandemic) yet I can still achieve that 120 mile plus range. It isn't hard to pedal with the power off once you get over about 12mph so I just use the motor for overcoming inertia, head winds, hills and if I begin to suffer physically. The average fit person will have no trouble whatsoever achieving 125 mile range in semi flat or rolling terrain. After 3 years my battery is still in peak condition but when it does start to die it WILL be developed, not thrown away. A good indicator of the fact they can be reconditioned is the price failing ones go for in eBay.

2 years on from that post and I'm still alive and kicking and so is the Motus having now covered almost 4,000 miles and six years old STILL ON THE SAME 300W battery which has just been tested as in perfect order. Like I said then I don't use the battery much but just a tad more now being 76 years of age. One modification I made recently was to ditch the freewheel and buy a new cassette free hub system the reason being I have found for a long time the highest gear is way too low for flat land and I wasn't getting the best out of it. Getting anything other than the standard 14-28t in 7 speed freewheel is like searching for rocking horse crap. I fitted a 12-32t cassette and it makes for great flat and down hill riding where before I just couldn't keep any pressure on the pedals above 18 mph whereas 23 mph is breeze now along with the lower 32t cog which makes easy work of hills for this overweight 76 year old. I was 'van doored' badly at one stage suffering severe bruising, broken rib and a broken finger along with concussion. My helmet was split wide open as I was catapulted onto my back my head really smashing into the tarmac. Without the helmet I would either not be here or I would be a dribbling wreck. Don't ride without a helmet as you cannot control what other people do. The bike? A torn hand grip, bent pedal and that was about it. A solid bike for sure. Without a shadow of a doubt the sturdiest most reliable Ebike in its class.
