As a biased Pentastar owner, I don't think the Pentastar gets the attention it should. As you said, if you're not doing a lot of very heavy towing the V6 is a very good option, is less expensive and gets good gas mileage. I tow a 3800lb travel trailer regularly and I'm very impressed with how well the Pentastar has handled every situation we've been in. At 60mph towing we get 11-12mpg. If we could get 13-14mpg with the E-torque that would be great. Wouldn't trade my 2016 just for the E-torque at this time though.

@jamesnorris57784 жыл бұрын

@@jamesnorris5778 DC motors are very overbuilt because of some of the Electrical characteristics inherent in DC motors, so that motor isn't ever going to be any issue. Ram needs a new V8. The Hemi is just getting a little long in the tooth. Would like to see FCA develop an all new DOHC V8 engine for use in RAM trucks, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer, and whatever future Challenger or Charger models are released. If they dropped the Hemi and went with a modern 4 valve engine, it would get better fuel economy and likely produce higher power and torque. Not to mention they could downsize the capacity for less weight. Combined with the etorque system it would likely be the most fuel efficient V8 in the class. They should do that or hurry up with their own turbocharged 6 cylinder engines for use in the aforementioned vehicles. I'd much prefer an inline-6 to a V6.

I wish that the V6 with etorque was available here in Mexico. I am waiting delivery of a Bighorn, and here in Mexico we don't get any options to choose from, other than the trim level. So the Bighorn version in Mexico is equivalent to an American Bighorn Crew Cab 4x4 with the HEMI etorque, with the level 2 equipment package, offroad package, and night package. That is just how they offer them here. I love everything about it, except the big V8. My current van uses the same Pentastar V6 that is offered on the RAM, and I rarely feel that I need more power. My van is also a bit heavier than my new RAM, so I expect a V6 RAM with etorque to feel pretty good and also offer up some fuel savings. I'm still very happy that I'll get to drive around in a truck with a big V8 before they disappear.
@EGGINFOOLS6 жыл бұрын
Bighorn owners. If you have a 115v outlet cap in the rear of the center console instead of the actual outlet all you have to do is get a 115v outlet from the dealer or ebay, pop the cap off and plug it into the wire harness. The plug is still there on the harness.

In what way?.. In term of fuel economy, interior features, etc., Toyota seems to be lagging behind; especially the infotainment system. A lot of Toyota owners here in Dubai keep swapping it out for those Chinese Tesla style units. How bad does the stock system have to be for a Chinese unit to be better?... Even the one in my brother's 2014 full option Camry hasn't worked properly since the day he bought it and they have not replaced it despite numerous complaints. The Tundra has a more roomier cab and more comfortable back seat. But that is all as far as I am concerned. The rear window that completely goes down is an amazing feature but impractical if I install a headache rack or Rhino Sport bar. Some will talk about reliability, but I don't believe that to be the case. In the 4 years that I have been having my RAM, I've had to help out two Tundra owners with electrical issues stranded on the side of the road. So I would solely say that a vehicle is only as good as the owner who maintains it, with the exception of Ford.. That EcoBoost has some issues.
@integrags986 жыл бұрын
surprise that you had to help Tundra. all the parts in the tundra is bigger. the JAPANESE company Toyota is the most reliability vehicle in the market. the ford trucks is the most sold truck in the world. as fuel economy well i can do 13.2 l per 100 km in canada for the tundra and Tundra has 6 speed trany and hino rear diff 4:30. lift up the tundra vs ram ford chevy and you will see. the ram is a beautiful truck for shur but as resell value and reliability TOYOTA all the WAY. the looks of all brand well that i can't say what trucks is better looking. everyone is different.
@007Knightjp6 жыл бұрын
I'm a huge fan of the Tundra. But I bought a Ram because all the way in terms of modern features, I found it to be the better truck for my needs; especially in terms of interior comfort, quality and fuel economy. This is all subjective though. Plus the added advantage over the Tundra is, here in Dubai, the local Toyota dealer does not support the Tundra. It is a popular truck here, but only because the locals love their land cruisers and like the Toyota reliability branding. Those trucks are all imported separately. The Ram is supported by the local dealer here which makes spares easier to come by. GM has the biggest presence here in the American full-size truck segment. It is more popular than the Tundra with the Ford Raptor taking the second place. I still maintain my view that any truck which is maintained the way that it is supposed to, will be extremely reliable; regardless of the brand.

No one realizes it's less of a hybrid than thought. The main thing ram is targeting since 2013 to improve fuel economy is parasitic losses, that's the key to understanding the eTorque. You have to have everything that runs off of the serpentine belt, but if you power them with the eTorque, the engine is "more free". They already took the power steering off of the serpentine belt drive with the last truck, so this is the next step. What you can expect or have already seen from ram is weight loss, reducing parasitic loss off of the serpentine belt drive, reducing parasitic loss through the powertrain such as thermal management, etc. If ram gets any new powertrain it will be around this trucks refresh in 2021 as a 2022 model. For now ram is milking the cow, and they are doing a damn good job.

However a lot of the basic elements remain. That said, I own an ecodiesel and cannot say good enough things about the motor. The rest of the truck is trash.

i currently have a bighorn with the 5.7 no etorq. i think my next truck will be a bighorn 5.7 with an etorq and 4x4.

I'd still like to know, the start-stop feature is only available with the e-Torque? Does that mean that Ram came up with a better idea to accomplish this by using the e-Torque to restart the engine from a dead stop, instead of using the starter and causing excessive starter & drive wear?

I know they are trying hard to comply with emissions, but shit, that slow rev return really pisses me off. I'd get that tuned out asap.

does the start/stop stay off between starts? or are they torturing buyers by making us disable every time? I'm in the market for a truck/4x4 but annoyances like this are a deal breaker. Start/stop in a city situation is an awful experience & the etorque seems like a nice feature to have

will the electric motor and the start stop feature make driving in deep mud or snow more difficult? Also, how long does the radio stay on for if the engine is off?

How long ago you film this video? The etorque v8 is already on lots. Just saw one last week.

Wait that red truck is $63k? I just got a 2018 crew cab 4x4 Cummins bighorn, and it was $15k cheaper. And I have so much more capability. And I don’t have to be the sucker that picked up the first model year of a redesign. And I don’t have to deal with all the stupid problems that come with that.

How long before American pickups go all electric like the Tesla ? Question from the UK
@erickdriver26 жыл бұрын
That's a pretty silly question. You could find the highest capacity battery on Earth, stuff it in one of these trucks, and it would pull a 10,000 lb trailer about 50 miles before it needs to recharge for several hours. Battery tech needs to advance before that's even a possibility.
@nlitenurmind6 жыл бұрын
@@erickdriver2 Tesla new class8 semi can tow 80,000lbs 500 miles. Daimler has a few electrics too. Battery capability is here, its just more expensive than its worth.
@erickdriver26 жыл бұрын
@@nlitenurmind And how much more room does a semi have for batteries Skippy? Trucks have to have a bed that can haul stuff. Please feel free to go be derpy somewhere else.
@nlitenurmind6 жыл бұрын
@@erickdriver2 yeah it's probably the "highest capacity battery on earth" right derp? All electric 1/2 ton trucks are 6 years away with a range of 200-300 miles while not towing.
@erickdriver26 жыл бұрын
@@nlitenurmind Lots of people won't buy V6 trucks because they don't have a V8 growl and you think anyone will buy an all electric pickup. Lol
