@@eddiecruz100 The platform could easily handle a more powerful version. But it will never happen because Subaru cannot have the 86/BRZ upstaging their halo car, the WRX. Same reason why I predict the new "Supra" will remain no more than lukewarm. People will cry out for a more powerful version, but as with this car, it won't happen. Because BMW will not have it competing with their own M models..

As a car company you dont want a car that can trump your top of the line models. In this case toyota has their lexus and subaru has their wrx and sti's. If the GT86 has anymore power lets say 225bhp, then it would stump wrx's and Is250s. If only subaru gets the upgrade package then no one would buy from toyota. Aside from those marketing strategy, they have consider that people who want more power will modify it no matter what. the main focus of the car was to make a cheap affordable car that isnt a camaro or mustang and certain not a fwd corolla while having the MPG. This is a college kid car. its for those who need to MPG and a little excitement. If you wanted more power, i hope you would get something that has more than 300hp. For the GT86 its not bad where its at. the price may have gotten out of price range now than before but in the used market its doing good.

I have a blue series pearl white brz and it's simply just beautiful. Knowing the horsepower when I bought the car I knew I was going to have to put money into the car to give it power. Either way there's no reason for people to continue bitching about the cars power, it's not only the sexiest affordable car on the market for average people but it's a project car. I've already put 5k+ into my car and it's not only gorgeous but it rides smooth, is a manual and sounds beautiful, I don't street race and going to court for tickets isn't fun so the power fits me fine.

You can't compare that to a muscle car... this car, as the miata, are for enjoying turns and curvy roads, clean handling with great power/weight relation... is thought for people who enjoy driving and know what they are doing, not for drag race. Americans can't understand it.

apparently you can't understand - there are better cars that are faster AND enjoy turns on curvy roads with clean handling. maybe you don't understand power to weight ratio, kid but you actaully NEED power to MAKE a ratio. did you think an RX7 and S2000 handled like crap? you are in a dream world little man. even the new 2019 camaro handles well despite it's enormous weight just brings more shame to this chump car BRZ that has absolutely nothing to do with the original 86. Rambo THANK YOU! Someone finally fucking gets it. It’s derived from the Toyota AE86, a fun, reliable, well handled car. So is the Toyota GT86. It’s not made for the Drag, like @Rambo said. It’s made to drift, race around the track, and deliver Tofu like it’s older brother.

@@_pinkkbunnyy Race tracks have straights, and this car shares virtually nothing with a Corolla, if there is something it may share its the window switches or some other useless part that all Toyotas share for budget cutting reasons, also the price they are asking for this version is ridiculous, even for it being a limited edition they should have done something else other than giving it a body kit out of NFS Underground 2 and some few tweaks to the suspension, brakes and such. The fact this is at a price range where a good bunch of other sportscars offer more power, same or better handling, and just as much reliability (ahem Type R, ahem MX-5) is stupid. If i wanted a car that is reliable, can drift and is quick around a track, ill grab a MX-5 RF, a Mustang with some options or a WRX

...the car was designed by Subaru, and is built by Subaru; it is a joint venture, but Subaru is doing most of the heavy lifting. Toyota did offer their engine mgmt, the D4S system with both port and direct injection (8 injectors) and the dip in the torque bad is where the system begins to switch over to direct injection only. Maybe Subaru should just now hire Porsche to build their engines since Porsche is not in the business of flat 4s w/ turbos; like Harley Davidson did with their V-Rod (Porsche designed engine).

I think the 86 is good with 205bhp. It's a tuner and Toyota is giving you opportunity to tune it and make it to your own style. This is affordable performance and at the end of the day, it's all about how much fun you have in your car. 205bhp or 85(cars in my country come with this power figure) so you should appreciate what you've got because some of us, don't even get that also.

As an FR-S owner, I admit I really like it but it does mean making compromises. Namely in the power dept. At low 30 thousands, the car needs something more. The interior needs a more premium touch and if the car had about 250-260 hp it'd be perfect. As it stands, as much as I enjoy my FR-S, I miss my 370 and they can be had for around the same price.

The headlights aren’t “TRD” Edition. They are standard LED projectors on all the Toyota 86 2017+ The the TRD exhaust is not a “Larger Exhaust” it’s a more direct Smaller One inlet two Outlet Muffler with Smaller Exits and Larger “TRD” exhaust Tips. This “TRD” Exhaust upgrade is not the same upgrade you get when you purchase the TRD exhaust upgrade on other 86 models. It sounds different because the exhaust outlet on this edition is smaller and more restrictive. The just a bit more “tuning” is 0. The gear shift knob used to have double line stitching. They removed it for this model. Making the special edition 860 look better interior wise. The screen is a new display (not size, manufacture and interface) and a lot less creature comfortable to use. The old version has a nice soft touch button at the bottom in setting for “Screen Off”. The new one does not. Instead it has a word hidden in the middle of the display if you squint correctly. The steering wheel isn’t different than the rest of the Subaru’s or Toyota’s. It’s just a color Wrong you are already driving the vehicle. The first thing you should notice while driving the car is THE CLUTCH. It’s overly assisted, like it’s just a pedal with zero feedback. You can’t feel the clutch at all and it’s harder to drive “normally” from a starting position as you feel the need to rev it higher or risk stalling it because YOU CANT FEEL THE CLUTCH ENGAGING! The “Sound” should have been noticed on Start-up first. And the Special edition 860 has a cleaner deeper tone with the TRD exhaust rather than this equally loud Raspy sound. It’s more restrictive. You just took a low speed turn and said you the car came alive with the SACHS dampers.....try driving the car and slinging the car into a real corner before you think they help. Yes the SACHS dampers matter. It still has Prius Tires! They are using 215/40/18 wheels. Which are still too skinny and now Too tall! The 86 and BRZ have 215/45/17 wheels which when you have a car with less torque, you need a smaller rotational force in order to feel the car be “Fast” when it is slow because of its lack of torque. 18” wheels slows the vehicles overall track times with its now worse acceleration. The Brakes are amazing though. The Special edition 860 IS the Highest Premium Subaru model you can get as a Toyota. Not just the TRD edition. And the Subarus and 86’s have the better Wheels as they are 17” and not a rotationally harsh 18” with no added torque Toyota does not brand their cars with what production Model there was. A limited “1400” is a fake number as they will sell as many as they can regardless of how many they said they advertised because they do not keep track of which car is 1 of 1400 or last of 1400 meaning there will likely be well over 2000 in each country that can and is willing to pay for it. They don’t understand what Special edition or Limited means. It’s actually do you want a Track dedicated car? Or do you want a burnout machine to do 1/4 Miles. Yes they both can be track cars. But the 86/BRZ are far better being those than the Camaro/Mustangs (Where the Camaro is faster than the mustang as long as you always buy the packages, base model vs base model the mustang is always faster) You’re still comparing this car to the base model FRS. It’s not the lack of power. All of the Torque and power it has is being more than used when you are actively racing the car and staying above the 5000 RPM. As a daily driver why are you worried about it’s power? It passed people, doesn’t get civic sluggish in 6th going up hills. And the top Track circuit cars in Japan are 215 BHP with no turbo . This is 205, before making it less restrictive with its exhaust and intake. If you want a RWD sports car. That has a track racing pedigree. And you don’t mind the flat Spoiler that isn’t apparently bolted to the truck but stuck on with adhesive. Then yes these cars are awesome! The Brembo Brake upgrade is the only selling factor to this car however. The TRD Body kit is nice but you’re better off getting the Special Edition 860 or Subaru Premium Limited models. OR. Get any of the cars! Use that extra money you saved to buy the Brembo brake kit, Invidia full exhaust, Perrin Intake, ISC Coilovers And Volk racing Wheels and have the car you always imagined for less. And will still do more than the TRD and 860! P.S. you never mentioned anything about the “Noise enhancing” snorkel that runs from the intake to your firewall so you can “Hear the intake engine noises”. Something equipped on every version of these cars. Obviously you never noticed. Because truly nothing changed other than the look of the car, the terrible clutch being over assisted so you can’t feel it and awesome Brembo brakes. P.S. This is my audition. I would like to be your new car review person as clearly you need more information and what to look for. Contact me ASAP and I can even be less Abrasive. Toyota are the masters at making something more sporty and cool than it really is,...this is another example. This is coming from a 4Runner TRD Pro owner -- I love it but there is definitely some exterior fluff. Perfect for a poser like me. They're always afraid to push it performance-wise in fear of them dipping their reliability ratings. And 33k is too much for this car -- I'll take a VW GTI Autobahn with more power and function over this and save 4K.
