You know I actually enjoyed how “raw” this review was. It didn’t sound like a salesman trying to get you to buy the truck and give you all these stats. It was just a father and son honest truth about how they like their truck! If I could be more convinced in getting a Tundra ya’ll did it!

I love how enthusiastic your son is about the truck and doing the videos with you. I went from an older tundra to a 4 runner, and now I'm back in a Tundra. 2020 TRD Pro. There aren't too many negatives about the truck besides Toyota's thin paint, trying to park it downtown and the fuel economy, but hey it's a truck. Great review!

I heard SR5 Sport is way to go if you're looking for highway driver. I wonder how the off-road variants, like TRD Pro, do on highway. Off-road a nice option but not a huge deal for me. Like Pro's looks better but don't want to pay more than SR5 Sport if latter better ride on road. Thx.

You both did make a great choice in buying a TUNDRA! I understand it's very old version, but it's reliable and bullet proof motor. Yes gas mileage is not great. It's a V8 expected. It's a truck, handles and drives like one does what it's suppose too do. I love my Tundra.

Another great video you crazy Texans! Love my 2019 Tundra Platinum CrewMax as well. Just got back from a round trip from Calgary, Alberta to Phoenix, AZ. It was very smooth and comfortable to drive. On the way back from AZ I drove 25 hours straight (non-stop) home with very little fatigue or cramping just like you said. My son loved having the back seat all to himself as there is tons of room back there. (Although my wife kicked him to the front seat for a few hours so she could have a nice nap). Hit several spots of wacky weather on the way home but the truck performed fantastic! My average gas mileage for the two week trip was 18.4 MPG. I kept the cruise control at 78MPH most of the way except when the weather forced me to slow down.

11k miles in 1 year?!?! What?! I bought my 2019 ford raptor brand new in March of 2019 and I already have 23k miles! Lol. Man, no truck comes close the the Raptor’s performance. I smoke Tundras, Rebels, etc. When I go off roading, all of the jeeps, all Toyotas, etc have to pull to the side to let me pass because my truck can go faster off road. Raptor even gets better MPG than the Tundra. Tundra would be my second choice if I couldn’t get a Raptor. Looks badass. Performance wise, no truck is touching the Raptor. And I got it for cheap too. $55,840 Base MSRP for 2019 Ford Raptor Super Crew (4 door) (800A package) $3,855 Total of Options -17-inch Forged Aluminum Bead-Lock Capable Wheels .. -4.10 front axle with TORSEN® Differential .. -bed divider .. -bed-liner spray in .. -remote start system .. -Tailgate Step with Tailgate Lift Assist .. $1,595 Destination Charges Price without taxes and license: $61,190 Price after Cali taxes and license: $67k and some change

WrongwayUp I also have a couple of sports cars, one being the 2019 mustang gt PP1. I prefer the v8 my damn self but Ford wasn’t building it so I got the Raptor. I was waiting for a couple years for the v8. If they release a v8, I’ll trade mine in in a heartbeat. Or even if Toyota or any other brand makes something better than a Raptor, I’ll get that too but I don’t see any truck beating the Raptor any time soon other than that ugly ass Tesla.

Update on the LasFit LED Switchback turn signal bulbs. NO BUENO!!! They did not work! And they cost more than twice as much as the JDM Astar bulbs. I actually went through three different manufacturers and they either hyperflashed, or they didn't work at all. So, I bought myself a set of the JDM Astar bulbs. Now, I have turn signal lighting for miles! Good job on finding these bulbs, fellas. Turned out to be the only ones that worked and were less than half the price!!!

Great review I absolutely loved my tundra it was a damn good truck and served me well no issues during the 100k I drove it. I am regretting trading it in for a 2020 trd pro army green taco. I only did it because 5 years with the tundra I wanted to try something new and different I am starting to love the taco but miss my Tundra everyday for the comfort, power and overall feel of the higher commanding stance. I have to agree on the paint Toyota definitely used cheap paint I’m already having some chips and scratches in the paint on my brand new taco. To sum it all up Toyota sure knows how to build a great product to last a very long time I used to be a Chevy guy but problem after problem I was done and been a Toyota guy ever since. Your son making all the good points on the tundra made me miss it even more lol!

I did the opposite, actually. I wanted an used taco and it was like 5k less than a new one (with 45k miles), so I ordered one as I wanted TRD double cab off-road V6. Not bad... however engine and transmission doesn’t feel right. Torque was in the high rev band (not much useful), and the bed is made in plastic... big mistake if you want to affix anything there that actually support something. It will brake the bed. 2Yrs and 25k miles later I traded in the Taco at the Dealer for a 4x4 1794... No regrets. Just got 3.5K less than what I paid for her when was brand new. Also took the 1794 from dealers inventory with absolutely all full specs and clear bra already installed. Huge discount as was the new year model arriving. Very happy with this “old fashion” truck. Love it.

My tundra was my every day driver for 3 1/2 years I got about 17 miles per gallon and put on about 100,000 miles they do eat brakes and they do eat tires. No other problems the V8 developed a slight rattle at 100,000 miles but when I traded and I still got the money I need to get out of it won’t be going back to Toyota for a while since the MPG’s just don’t work with my commute the new ones are going to cost an arm and a leg and a firstborn.

I have the same scratches on the center of my dash!!! Direct line of sight!!! Hate em lol. I will say I highly recommend the AMP Research Powerstep running boards. It will definitely save your leather seats from all those wrinkles you get from sliding down from your truck. Trust me! Eventually those wrinkles will become tears! I too find the truck to look better without running boards so these Powersteps were perfect since they retract in. They have taken a beaten so far in this Massachusetts weather and I have no issues. No special maintenance or anything. They’re plug and play as well. The only thing I would say is they can be noisy when operating but its not like we got a TRD Pro for is quiet nature. They come with a good manufacturer’s warranty as well

thank you. MPG is not as big of a difference as one thinks... my tundra gets a solid average of 15mpg ... a hybrid version will get lets say 5mpg better on average ...over 15,000 miles in a year thats $475 savings at $1.75 per gallon ... it will never make sense to buy at a $10,000 premium to save $40 per month in gas savings... hope that makes sense. i bought a hybrid 8 years ago and still have not made the money back in gas savings over a similar non hybrid.
@timquinn465
@timquinn465 4 жыл бұрын
@@AndreiDoroftei You are right, in places where gas prices are relatively cheap MPG not a huge difference. In the past the hybrid technology in trucks never really worked well they would only get maybe 1-2 MPG better than the standard truck engines. I wouldn't recommend hybrid for full size trucks, just get the simpler regular engine, less things to go wrong and maintain. I have a Honda Pilot now which gets 25MPG overall and going to a 15MPG Tundra for me would cost an extra $1400 per year @$3.50/gal, plus in CA they tack on a weight based fee to registration because it is a truck (a commercial vehicle), which applies to any body on frame. Right now I just haul bikes and family so don't need anything too crazy. If I get a camper trailer it would be nice to get a truck. The Tundra is a solid truck and for people who keep their vehicles longer than 10 years there is a reason why people buy Toyota or Honda. I showed my daughters your video and they like watching your son driving around the parking lot LOL.

Dude! I got my tundra in 2018. There are DEFINITELY LEDs out there that are plug and play. Diode Dynamics sells some. I got some off amazon (be careful of the seller for quality purposes). All but my turn lights are LEDs because I had the same concern about adding resistors (even though I have done it before and it is super simple to do). As of this point, I just haven't done it yet. And there are LEDs that won't cause hyperflash for the turn lights (front and back). Fantastic looking tundra though! Also, I don't know if it's true or not, but a detailer was telling me that toyota does not use a clear coat. He said their paint has the clear mixed in. Based on what he said, it SEEMS true. He said he found out because when Toyotas are polished, the paint actually ends up on the polishing pad so you have to be careful. My truck came with a clear bra like you mentioned which might not be a bad idea either.

@AndreiDoroftei 4 жыл бұрын
i bought quite a few led's in another video i did and non worked... i just looked into Diode Dynamics for some turn bulbs and they were a little over $100... thats a lot for 2 rear bulbs. so far i have been happy with stock bulbs ... i will revisit it later on when they get cheaper. I have thought of adding a bra for the front but even if i had it there are chips beyond where it would of stopped. I've just decided on taking it on the chin with the rock chips

I also put a Putco LED light bar that is VERY BRIGHT when the brake lights are activated & the reverse turns the night into day! Texas is the BEST country & another known fact is the Tundra is the MOST USA truck out there. Ford, GMC & Ram use parts from Mexico & Canada & some are made there too. The only thing I hate about it Is the seat they worn out fast.On my IS Lexus they put some flawless leather and it torn in 2 year..Grapevine of Toyota they try to rip my ass off on a Camry before. The only one I go to is sport city or Toyota of dallas.

The leather in these trucks is foeleather apparently because of Pita. I love them as well and they don’t seem to get the wrinkles like other leather seats. You should definitely always take your son with you when you are vehicle shopping 😂.

lol...yes i will. I know that the sides and backs of the seats are fake japanese leather but the seating surfaces are some type of real leather..... i guess i would have to cut it to see...HMMmmmm

WrongwayUp The way it was explained to me was they used nothing from animals. That’s what the salesman said. I don’t know exactly how that would be possible though. He seemed sure of himself, but he was a salesman 🤥lol

As a person who learned the hard way, allow me to say any gas but full detergent gas like Shell or Chevron is a very bad idea. The engine is far too finely tuned. Knocking for crap gas is suppressed and you don't hear it but it robs your HP big time. The warranty also mentions the requirement of detergent gas. Cheap gas station 3rd tier gas doesn't have any detergent.

I like my 2019 Tundra, but the tin used to make the body parts are the thinnest I've ever seen. If you sneeze on it, I swear you have a chance of denting it.

Hey Toyota don’t recommend the TRD rear sway bar on the TRD PRO because of the fox suspension it limits the travel of the suspension look it up

That's why I got a platinum instead I get all the luxury feature the pro doesn't have and the money I saved with the price difference I got the fox 2.5 front and rear shocks. Very happy with my choice!!

Unless you're just shopping for a status symbol, there's more to the Ford lineup than the Raptor. Other than resale value and perhaps longevity; I'll put my V-8, lifted, F-150 FX4, up against the Raptor and the Tundra, for all practical purposes. (Towing capacity, interior space, gas mileage)

I’m shopping for a TundraTRD Pro was told by a dealer they you can’t get blind spot monitoring or front and rear park assist on the TRD Pro. I found that odd since MSRP is $57k+

A lot of things are missing on the trd-pro. The basic basic is all you get on it. On mine u can also add no sonars , no heated seats or cooled , basic ac controls and a few other things I can’t think about right now. Saying all that which sounds not all that good...... I do not miss any of that stuff. Less stuff to go wrong and brake.
