I just traded my mustang in on a 2021 xlt with the tremor package in cyber orange. Cross shopped with others but loved the ecoboost and 10 speed plus it has a 7500lb towing capacity vs 5000lbs for the ZR2.

We just bought a new one as well, wife found her 2018 to big to park but Ioved it, the back seating is its downfall, they don’t lay down flat enough plus when the seats come forward they just get in the way of putting anything back there. I’m sure Ford could have done 100 percent better. For what you get with this truck it’s priced much too high.

I agree the back seats could have used more work and options for sure! And that's a fair complaint about the price, you can get a mid trim full size for that price, but it's just priced competitively with other mid sized trucks. Although it's XL trim 4x2 is one of the cheapest in the segment and it has the same powertrain which is pretty good. Some people just like their trucks bigger for that price. To each their own.

Now I checked the 2021 and the very same truck goes over 34k not including tax and license..I like the rangers look but I’ll wait a couple year and get a depreciated still newer truck.

Just turned 750 miles on mine and i did get the ford tune at dealership before delivery to me. I have drove 2 other non tune rangers and will say it is a very nice bump in power and a lot more torque. i have the fx4 crew cab and love the fox shocks vs regular suspension. Equipped with nav. and technology package it is all i need in a truck that will fit in my garage.

I always thought the Ranger was a bit dull looking, but the way you optioned it and with the bug shield and wind vents, it looks fantastic. This is probably the first Ranger I've seen that I think looks great.

I like the Ford Ranger and like your review. If I were Ford, I would copy the darkened emblem and step bar you added and make them standard. They look so cool. I would also darken the emblem on the steering wheel. Great video. And yeah nice parking.

Just got a similar 2021 XLT Sport Crew Cab in Cactus Grey. Kinda wish I opted for the FX4 package, but I don't do a ton of off-roading and didn't see the need. Been looking for trucks for literal years (almost pulled the trigger on a '21 Ram Big Horn Night Edition), but after some contemplation, and high gas prices coming, I decided the Ranger was enough truck for me. 2nd day of ownership and enjoying it.

I bought the 2020 sport package in red. Love the truck so far. It was a loaner vehicle so i had 2600 miles on it and they put in a spray in bedliner for 500 bucks. Im still not getting the mileage out of it. We just went through a wicked 2 weeks of winter storms I had to put 350 lb of weight in the bed and it handled much better in ice and snow. Hopefully we wont have that again .

I immediately wondered why Ford didn't include some version of the 3.7 V6 Cyclone formerly in the Mustang (among others). 300 hp and 30 mpg (or close) on the highway. I also realize they killed that engine in the Mustang line. I love the idea of the EcoBoost, but to me, more components, smaller engine, more moving parts OR faster revving parts = what does it look like in 10 years. Thanks for the video.

All the car companies are going this route to meet epa standards and try and get better gas mileage. Building smaller engines w plastic parts, adding turbos, high pressure fuel…some of these companies are right at that edge and some might last a bit longer. But they all are going this route…have no choice if they want to do business in US. Heck, most have that engine shut off at the light BS that just gives the companies carbon credits at our expense. Stupidest thing IMO. But whatever, this truck seems to be decently built. Just take care of the maintenance and it should be fine.

Im currently debating between an Fx4 lariat and a Ridgeline rtle. What made you go for the Ranger over the Ridgeline? The advantages of the Ridgeline for someone like me who doesnt off road are numerous. However, I really like the powertrain and higher driving position of the Ranger. How are you finding the ride with the fx4 shocks? Does your kid have enough room in the back?

Great truck but the wheels are too big. Downgrade to 16 inch rims and allow room for more rubber. Offroad trucks should have thicker tires.

I have the FX2 and have been very happy. I would have liked to have had the fx4 but maybe next time. That engine is great, so much fun. Drove my buddies Tacoma and ya it’s great but that transmission is outdated. It’s sluggish and you don’t really notice it until you have driven this Ranger. I expect they will be updating that in the near future. How did you do the emblems black? Was it just an overlay on top of the blue?

Yeah, they are just high quality decals that you very carefully put over the top of the blue emblems. It was a far cheaper route than replacing the emblems entirely.

I didn't feel the lariat was worth the price difference. I just bought one last week and said no to the lariat . Not much of a difference besides the key and a few cosmetic options.

I bought the 19 Lariat trim 4x4 sport when they first came out. Had 3 production issues one pretty severe but they mostly resolved. The first 10k mile was complete hell but the last 26k miles real nice. Main issue the parking sensors, i live in northern Ohio and if the parking sensors get snow or dirt on them it sucks. When temp gets below freezing ice forms so anytime you drop below 5 mph the sound alarm goes off over riding the radio.

Oh man.... I can't even imagine the headache that caused! I'm glad it's been fixed though. I do find it annoying when the parking sensor chime when I'm backing up interrupts my phone calls...

Sharp looking truck. I'm between the F150 and the Ranger. I don't really need anything the F150 has, just prefer the size because I haven't had a smaller truck since 2009 with the Colorado. But for what I actually NEED, the Ranger is perfect. it fits in my budget, has enough power and features, and looks pretty badass. I'm thinking XLT with the Tremor package. Soft tonneau and wind deflectors.

Good choice! I'm currently trying to help my dad find a 2019-20 used Ranger 2WD extended cab, but they're like finding hen's teeth in this crazy current used car market. He'd probably be happy with an XL but I'd hope he'd at least go for the XLT to make it more marketable down the road. My favorite thing is they all have the same engine/transmission combo no matter what configuration you go with, so the performance doesn't suffer even if you go basic on the trim. His last midsize Toyota truck lasted him 26 years so it's tough to find something in this class to take its place.

For sure! Those older Toyota trucks are amazing and I’m sure the newer ones are fine as well, it’s just that the new tacos are a little small in the cabin for me. You are so right; having one power train option is a good way to go for those on a budget! I haven’t seen many used Rangers yet, but I’m sure they’ll start popping up within the next year.

Unfortunately, after 2500 miles, 2 months, I had to take it back to the dealer because of a weird noise underneath and some funky smells coming in the cabin..... I also had a Ridgeline, bought it brand new back in 2006, loved that truck

Interesting. I don't hear any weird noises under my truck, maybe something is loose? Regarding that smell; does it smell like gas? Could be oil dilution. A rare occurrence in turbo charged vehicles.

If I didn’t have a need to tow 6K pounds, I’d have a Ranger rather than a F-150.

That's understandable, but the Ranger can tow 7.5K pounds. But you might be pushing it at times, so best go with the F-150.

You might want to check the fuel/oil issue. What % fuel is in your oil? Send a sample out.

Haven't noticed an issue yet, but I know it can be an issue with most turbo charged engines. Usually you can smell that when it becomes a problem, but I may have it checked just in case.

@@EmperorFoxx it’s actually related to the engine being a GDI, not turbo. There are acceptable percentages, but a lot of the 2019 Ranger engines have been in the problem zone causing early oil dilution.

I have a 2020 XLT ranger fx4 crew cab.....my only complaint is that the hood is mis-aligned on the pass .side , brought it to dealers attention day of sale and was told if I have a problem talk to Ford about it. Have not gone in for 1st service yet but the discussion is coming.other than that detail I really like the truck, nice ride, great on gas,and move’s right along with the twin turbo’s......I have owned 3 Tacoma’s all new and this is about even with them but time will tell.

I think it's a common problem. My hood is very slightly mis-aligned as well, along with the passenger door. It's pretty minor and have experienced it before on other makes I've had, especially GM.

I love everything about mine except the cab has horrible wind and road noise. I own a 2020 Ford ranger Lariat and a 2019 Colorado diesel the Colorado’s cab is better as far as road and wind noise. You can tell Ford cut some corners as far as sound deadening no power back window and the tailgate is really just a slap in the face not to be standard. On a truck of that price it should include all of those options. It’s extremely fun to drive if you get the tune for it let us know...

I agree with you that a dampened tailgate and power rear window should have been included for sure, not to mention a split rear seat. I honestly don't notice bad wind or road noise with mine and find it comparable to my previous Honda Ridgeline as a pretty quiet ride. Did you install new tires or window visors by chance? My window visors cause a little wind noise, but nothing bad. And yes, as soon as I hit 5K miles I will be putting that tune on!

Yeah they are super durable. Went through an automatic wash many times and had no issues. I got them on Etsy for pretty cheap.

I also got a set of stainless black platinum letter inserts for the tailgate RANGER stamp and installed those today. They look amazing. I can recall getting around 22 with my old '99 4.0 V-6/5-spd. manual. I had a 35 mile one-way commute on (mostly) highways to get to work. The point is, I pretty much nixed the new Ford Ranger from my list out of the gate when I was truck shopping last summer. Reason? No V-6; I would have at least expected 28 m.p.g. out of the Eco 2.3 four cylinder. That, and I swear that the new cabin is smaller than the previous generation when I tested it out a year earlier. It still is a nice looking truck however, and capable, but I just don't think that the small four-banger is going to hold its own versus a large six cylinder motor, especially from a longevity standpoint.

I THINK THE RANGER is a GOOD LOOKING TRUCK. The PRICE DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THROUGH THE ROOF for the base model 2 or 4 door ( if one is a quaker) and can live with just a 4 wheel drive. MOST will WANT OPTIONS (some REQUIRE PACKAGES) so one should select carefully. THE 4X4 OFF ROAD PACKAGE is SWEET though and i don't think it's too expensive at all for what comes with it.

I put a dampener on the tailgate, bug shield, window visors/vents, nerf/step bars, and pivot box in the bed so far. I have a new grill coming in the mail soon. I plan on making a video about the pivot box and grill soon.

Very nice truck love the gray. I have the Lariat trim model yr. 2019. Your cover of the truck is well done. When you got to the vertical seat adjustment and pointed out the lack of electric adjustment you pointed to one my complaints, and a memory seat function would also take care of your concern about the time it takes to get comfy. Also someone told me that their Ranger has a vertical power adjustment. ? Then the missing split rear seat, what was Ford thinking?. (cheap) The lack of a power sliding rear window you call weird, I think you are being way too nice. I am embarrassed for Ford being so inconsiderate of their customers. Having to add the tail gate dampener another needless Ford discredit to the customer putting up over 40k for the truck they like. Also there are no power outlets or extra storage compartments in the bed. bad Ford. BUT and it is a huge BUT, this truck has something very unique about it, size, performance, looks ride. handling. I confess I love it. I want some of the upgrades Ford is offering or I may opt for the Ranger Tremor and add the performance upgrade. Thanks for the review. Good luck with your truck. If Ford takes care of the few issues they will go from home run to grand slam.

I completely agree with you! The things we have complaints about, hopefully will be addressed in future model years, because a lot of folks think those are valid complaints. Luckily, the amount of Ford accessories and after market accessories are plenty to make our trucks ours and better. I'll be doing a couple more videos about may bed cover and the pivot box. I'll be getting the Borla exhaust and the ford tune early next year as well. Love this truck so much despite it's little flaws!

Bought a 22 Ranger xlt carbonized gray fx4 with black appearance package...how's the fx4 shocks for everyday driving? I'm thinking of getting the fox shocks

The FX4 are perfectly fine for everyday driving. That being said, I did get the fox 2.0 leveling kit done on my truck, and am enjoying it a lot. A bit pricey though. I’ll be doing a doing a 3 year review here soon.

I just got a 2 door Ranger FX4 Lariet today, really nice truck!! It's also the same color as the one you have! It replaced a 2017 Jeep Rubicon.

This video helped me out to make up my mine, we have only 1 car at home at this time but my boy is starting pre k this year so I have to buy another car, our currently SUV will be my wife’s ride and I’ve been watching tons of truck videos, I like Ford and I think this ranger is a really really good choice, looks awesome and it has a lot of off road capabilities, probably more than what I really need. I leave in Las Vegas and love to go out to the desert so this will be a good truck for me. Thank you for this video.

Fuel mileage? Why did you get rid of your Honda?

Around 20-21 city, 27-28 on the highway. I sold the Honda because there wasn't much at all for customizing and I liked the feel of driving the Ranger better. Now with that said, the Ridgeline is probably the best commuter truck our there in my opinion. It is a fantastic truck, I just wanted that small truck feeling that you get with the Ranger.

How do you add the dampener for the truck bed?

It was pretty easy and only took maybe 10-15 minutes. Directions were clear and easy to follow, just need a wrench or socket.

I had a 2017, the first year for the gen 2. Even though I loved the Ridgeline's comfort, excellent ride, quickness, and mpgs, it just lacked accessories for customization. After market parts were slim and Honda wouldn't warranty any of them unlike Ford. When I did put a leveling kit on the Ridgeline, it ended up making the CV boots leak and was forced to remove the kit. By then the Ranger had just come out and it looked amazing to me.

I got my tonneau cover from real truck.com for around $250. It wasn't a bad deal for a low profile cover. The steps were very easy to install and that was my first time installing my own. Good luck, and I hope you love your new truck!

Drive them both, I'd say. The Ridgeline is much more refined on the road with great handling, a great commuter truck. The Ranger is more of a old school feel to the handling, but oddly quick. It also has a much larger after market and ford accessory support than the Ridgeline.
