For what it’s worth.. I’ll preface this comment by saying I’ve been a diehard Hoyt guy for 5+ years now. I went to my local Scheels tonight to shoot the VXR and RX3 side by side. I shot the VXR first and that was my mistake. This bow is stupid quiet, like a mouse fart quiet. The Hoyt sounded like a rifle going off compared to it. The hand shock is absolutely none on the VXR where the Hoyt has some noticeable post shot vibration. I was able to anchor with the VXR with ease, but I had to hunker down quite a bit with the RX3. The only real area the RX3 shined was draw cycle. I felt it didn’t stack weight like the VXR. But that’s minor. Conclusion: I’ll be ordered a VXR 31.5 in ambush green next month. 👍🏻

Glenn Prince Indeed it is. I’ve always refrained from “bow bashing” like I see many other guys do. I think technology in archery has somewhat plateaued in the last 5 years and regardless of brand, I think any bow on the market today is capable of getting the job done. It’s just a matter of finding the subtle differences between each that you like/dislike. I just posted a VXR 31.5 Review video (from the perspective of a Hoyt guy) give it a watch if you can 👍🏻

I’m not a Matthews guy, never have been. Out of all the 2020 bows I shot. The vxr is the best hands down. It’s the only bow I could feel a noticeable enough difference between it and my 2013 obsession. Very quiet, I didn’t know I was drawing a 70lb bow .... excellent. Kudos to Matthews. It’s rare I shoot a new bow from year to year and go wow . This one made me go wow

Great review. I like how you now shoot the bow while the camera is sideways and not behind you, that way we can see the shot characteristics at the moment of release. Just started following you, I think your videos are top notch. Keep up the great work.

After watching your reviews, I noticed that the VXR performs about 10-12 feet per second faster at 28 inches compared to the other bows at 28. This bow and the VXR 28 are a good option for short draw guys, like myself.
@lennyo3034
@lennyo3034 4 жыл бұрын
I noticed that. In this video, assuming 20 grains on the string, it wasn't really making IBO with the 30" draw. But with the 28" draw, it was right at or even over IBO. That's assuming the 28" is actually 28" but my Triax is pretty close so this might be as well.

I love the comments about upgrades and changes from prior year. I hate the dudes that complain about how small the change was. Don’t buy it then! I bought a Vertix last year and love it. The changes are subtle enough that I can’t justify the change but like you said, it’s quite different than a Heli M or a Z7. Love your content and info man! Keep up the good work!

just getting back in to archery and i bought this as my ONE ALL, BE ALL bow. this bow is insane, i tried a few at my local shop and just kept coming back to the VXR, so as a beginner in the compound bow scene, this bow is a very solid choice. i went all out with telescopic stabilizer, 5 pin adjustable sight, 5 arrow holder in an all black finish. the draw is extremely smooth, the valley is not too deep, and i think in the back country this is going to be able to take a beating cause i am not easy on my gear. enjoy the VXR!

I made it to the shop and got to shoot a VXR and the #2 cam hoyt rx-4. I really liked both bows. I was my suprized by the rx-4. I went to the shop feeling like I only wanted a 28 VXR. I like a short bow. The hoyt really suprized me how short it really was. I was just as small as the VXR side by side. The Mathews was still top heavy. I left the shop in love with the Hoyt rx-4.. really hope you get a chance to review the #2 cam on the alpha. 28" 70# number 2 cam. I now it's not a hug different but I'd love to see just what the difference is. My shop only had one #2 cam. They have more coming. Have a great week dude.

You hit the nail on the head with the iPhone comment. A lot of people spend twice the amount of what these bows go for on their stinkin phone and they get a new one of those every year, but wont spend half of that on a new bow every year. I guess it just comes down to priorities and philosophy of use. Those of us that shoot 3 to 5 times a week for fun or do hunts and travel with them can justify that price tag. I'm still rocking an iphone 8 plus over here and i have an RX3 and i'm looking to add a RX4 to the fleet. Maybe a turbo model. Why? Because i'm one of the few who do shoot 3 to 5 times a week and have the luxury of being able to shoot indoors or outdoors year round. And because i enjoy it. There's guys out there that spend over 3 grand on a drone to fly around. Would i spend that money on a remote control bird? No. But they enjoy it and use it so they can justify it. Just buy what you can afford and enjoy what you have at the end of the day. Awesome review as always Kellen. Shoot straight and have a good holiday!

I've been shooting PSE and have been on staff for 30 years in some form or another.. I shoot a 2019 carbon stealth and they're just not quiet...Great bow but not quier...on another review somebody said the VXR was Mouse fart quiet and you said they were stupid quiet that sells me on this bow especially with the speeds you're getting... Even though I can buy a stealth pretty much for close to half price I'm going to pay a little more and buy this bow... for me I cannot stress how much a quiet bow means whether you shoot a whitetail buck at 45 yards or an antelope buck.. for those of us that hunt a lot know they can jump the string swirl or spin that fast.. the difference between a good shot and a bad shot or a complete miss...great job Matthews...I'm jumping ship...Matty

Awesome video 👍👌 I have watched this a dozen times or more. Well my local shop finally got one of these in and it balances nicely. There is a slight bit of vibration, not much but it's still there definitely less vibration than the Traverse or the vertix. It holds good and is not as top heavy as the Traverse. It is smooth not as smooth as the Traverse, much better than the traix or vertix. The grip is money just like the Traverse and vertix. Just hate the $#it green color (it's the only color the shop is stocking 4 months out for a different color).

Great Review, gave me some things to consider. I went to my local shop and shot about 4 or 5 bows. I was torn between the NXT 33 and the and the 31.5 VXR. Man that PSE draw is very smooth but I ended up going with the VXR. It was so quiet and fast. I loaded it up with my HHA Kingpin, Hamskea Hybrid Hunter Pro, TORX front and rear stab. This thing is smacking, it's quiet and wicked fast. I have a lightly used The Block target and this thing is punching through it and no I'm not shooting the exact same point. I went with the 31.5 over the 28 just for the string angle, I have a 30 inch draw and the 28 angle was just a little too aggressive for me. Again thank you.

@alecfoster9338
@alecfoster9338 4 жыл бұрын
Luke Noble so the bow itself I ended paying right at $950. Because I bought the bow from the store a lot of times shops will discount your accessories which they did for me. So the front and rear stab was about $150, the HHA they couldn’t work too much on the price so it was right at $200. The rest luckily was an open package so I got it for a really good price of $125 normally $170+. I should have bought a quiver while I was there but kind forgot like a dope. Ended up ordering a tight spot from another shop and I’m still waiting on it to come in. Mathews also has a great tripod stand that mounts onto your front limp pocket which works amazing and your bottom cam doesn’t contact the ground. Part of the reason I did this set up is so I could swap the mods. I shoot 29.5 draw and 75lbs for deer/elk then I switch the mods on the Mathews and the wheel on the HHA to 65 pounds for spring turkey. Kinda like having two bows. Sorry if that was more than you asked for and I hope I answered your question. I love the bow totally worth it to me.

@Boxing 101 I personally haven't been able to shoot anything but PSE as the other brands don't get stocked for women with shorter draw lengths and less poundage. Had two places say, "oh you can try it we'll take it down as far as it will go (53lbs and 28 draw), and I'll help you pull it". Seriously??!! I couldn't say I hated Mathews or Hoyt or Elite... the 3 I tried. I just couldn't feel the darned thing in its entirety myself. PSE does make some great bows and I personally enjoyed learning on my Chaos. The back wall was spongy but over all it was a good little bow to begin the basics on. Shot true, stayed tuned, and lasted 3 years. At the time I wasn't sure if I wanted to jump into hunting or target only. Turns out it did ok for both, though I'd definitely say it was a hunting blow on the lean. I've been trying for months to find someone to help a gal out... but I guess only men do archery!!?? Puh! It's surprising how nonexistent women are on KZbin for archery as well. There's a few, but mostly just competition stuff. I haven't found a serious female youtuber archer who reviews and talks about the art and finesse of hunting/ target shooting yet. Seems like most are just barbie bow-babes. (No offense) but I'm serious about this and it's sad when I can't get anyone to take me serious just because I'm a woman who needs a bow set up at 40lbs. The aim is to get stronger but gosh I'd like to get the bow I want to go forward on. Makes me laugh, I even say my budget (which is in line with competition shell out) and even that doesn't budge these NM archery tech/ sales guys. Sorry for the rant... I'd LOVE to try ANY Mathews... except a child's. I'll keep trying but gosh it's depressing. I mean is it really offensive to the archery world for women to shoot bows? Carry bows that they can try? I guess I figured after Hunger games and that rage the spike in women's interest in it (and there was) would have allowed for better selection in stores by now. I love this channel, so far he's the only one who's responded to me and tried to help me at least as much as he can. I've put out over 200 inquiries on chat threads and KZbin channels. My husband just got his Elite Kure... he ended up ordering all we'd need to set it up so I could try it. It will likely be next year before I've been able to try the ones I'm interested in, compare, and decide. Maybe longer... or never...I can't buy a bow to try it. I'm hoping someone out there will read these rants and give me some advise as to where we could go. We're willing to travel up to 200 miles for a good recommendation. So far... nothing. Seems this problem is in every archery shop within that distance of me. Like I said I'm serious, this the rant and I'll keep knocking until some door opens. Until then me and my Chaos will just keep shooting...lol. I'm not settling for something less than I'm looking for with my budget. Too much money to spend on a bow to settle on. Thanks for your response, I truly hope to try this bow in the 28 axel range or 31...I like what I see from Mathews.

When going to the 75lb mods you have to take into consideration the arrow spine will have to go up as well. I’ve shot a 80lb bow since 2012 and the only down side is having to run at the bare minimum spine of 300 and at least a 250 spine if you want to load the front up.

Hey boss! Quick question, is 80# a huge difference from 70# bows? I’ve shot 70 my whole life but thought about going to 80! All this talk about shoulder wear has me weary, but I often shoot 50-70 arrows a session without any noticeable fatigue

Triston Starling it’s a noticeable difference. But the more you shoot the easier it seems. Just like when you first started shooting at 70lbs. The biggest difference comes with kinetic energy. I have 2 different arrow weights, one is 415 grains and my bow shoots it 334 FPS the other is 585 grains and my bow shoots that one 289 FPS.

Cut at 28.5'' = 424 gr.. What else would I need? Maybe in a couple years I may upgrade. Replace my back up bow Halon 6, with my Triax.

I shot this version vxr and the rx4 ultra. Needless to say I fell in love with the ultra and new cams. The Mathews I shot at 70 and 30". And for some reason the Hoyt on 30" was actually a little under 29 3/4" on draw board. So I shot it at 30.5" with #3 cams and it was buttery smooth the mathews to me was a little more dead in the hand after shot but not much difference in the two. But the new cams on that rx4 ultra was awesome to me and I've been a mathews guy the last couple years. Wasn't to worried about losing much speed I hunt with over 500 grain arrows. Both were quite to me as well

Inside Out Precision I never shot the rx3's.I'd bought a halon 32 and triax. So didn't see the need in getting the Vertix really only difference to me was the switch weight which is cool though!Wound up selling my triax. But was wanting a new one this year and it surprised me how much I like the Hoyt. I didn't like the rx1's at all the draw was not near as smooth as the other bows or the mathews to me on the rx1. But nonetheless I love em all to I've had quite a few different brands all the top bows now are so close it's just what feels best to the you!

The TRX 36 is longer while weighting 0.02 pounds more; yes, is more expensive but will be on podiums, for sure, and the 31.5" is already $100 more than the 28". The VRX uses 11 different draw lenght modules in two let offs and four weigth peaks, so that's 88 different modules, plus you need a bow press to adjust the top hats if cam lean appears. On the other hand, both the new Bowtechs and Elites lets you to fix cam lean and draw length with an allen key (and other brands as Prime, Bear andExpedition have now adjustable dl). You can add to that list also APA. So yeah, this year PS3, Hoyt and Mathews have been extremely conservative, whereas other brands did a ton of improvements in tech related to ease of tunning and quality of life. I say this as an archer which lacks a bow press and has the closest bow proshop ~400 Km away.

Being said that, seems that Mathews has the fastes hunting bows this year, which at heavy arrows have around ~8 fps advantage above Hoyt's RX-4 and Axius (with heavy arrowsm they are paired at lighter ones), very dead in hand and silent but really heavy to draw; the PSE Carbon Stealth Mach 1 is slighly behind in speed, but weights 1 pound less and enhanced a lot its grip ergonomics while being quieter and deader than previous models. The Elite Kure is ~12 fps slower than the VXR but easier to draw and very versatile to tune (no need to buy mods or using a bow press); the Bowtech's Revolt/Revolt X in comfort mode are ~18 fps slower than the VXR but lighter to draw and now very dead/silent thanx to the parallel limb placement and as with the Kure, very easy to tune and adjust without a bow press or the need to buy anything. Wold like to see Prime's Black Series in more speed test to figure their performance.

I just can't give up my ol bowtech invasion cpx. I like a short bow with a good brace hight. It's 30" ATA with a 7" brace hight and ibo is 345 and it's under 4lbs. Every new bow out is slower IBO or close to the same but with a 6" brace hight and over 4lbs Until a company comes out with something amazing then I'm staying put. I would have loved to see the vxc 28 with a 7" brace. That would of peeked my interest in getting a new bow and I'm not a Mathews fan at all but I would of been tempted if that bow had a longer brace than 6".

Thanks for your bow reviews. I'm debating between a VXR 31.5 and a Traverse. I spot and stalk antelope, deer, and elk in Idaho. I am still fairly new to hunting (3rd year) and it's hard for me to tell much difference when shooting these bows bare at 10 yds. Perhaps the Traverse is a little louder with a bit of a twang? Or could that be the wicked threads vs zebras? 29" DL. 70# DW. 85%. I'd appreciate your biased opinion on which one you'd choose and why. Thank you

Of the reviews on the VXR, yours is by far, the best. If you can, I have a Mathews Switchback, that I purchased in 2004. Just killed a mule deer at 43 yards. Perfect shot. Down & dead within 10 seconds. Any chance, if you know, the comparison of the two bows. I shoot at 62 lbs and a draw of 28.5 inches. Thanks

The switchback was our best selling bow of all time before the Vertix, it's still a great bow for being 15 yrs old. But what you'll gain is about 20-25fps, less hand shock, and even more quiet.

Awesome review, I'm on the fence between this and the Axius Ultra. Im 6'5 and have a 31 inch draw, so I'd be concerned about the string angle. I'd like to not have to move my face into the string to get it into my nose, but not sure I buy the hype that the shorter ATA Mathews shoots the same as a 34-35 inch ATA bow
@InsideOutPrecision
@InsideOutPrecision 4 жыл бұрын
Well the ultra will be more forgiving due to its larger brace height, and the string angle won't be as severe at your draw length. I'd recommend just shooting them both and seeing which you prefer

I understand your points, but I shoot target 90% of the time. I know that the VXR have the same length riser than the Traverse but the Traverse have 33" ATA and 6"5/8 brace height... I lot of person seems to by agree that the Traverse is one of the top bow for: Hunting/target and 3D. As my shop have not both bow, I’m curius to have an opinion from a person who have shoot both.

I like the traverse all around but I might be biased due to having a long draw length. Theoretically the traverse would balence better due to the longer ata but they are both engineered so well that it is very close. I recommend shooting both and maybe a vertix and get what shoots the best for you.
