Albon is a talented driver and seems like a genuinely good person, so there's no reason not to have a good vibes chat with him in a sponsored video. Also he's having a pretty terrible season in the second best car of the grid and deserves the criticism that he's getting, no disrespect meant. I don't think it's incoherence or dishonesty from WTF1.

@@BrickPerfected Cant argue with you on that. Off course there are epic circuits around the world. Didnt mean to disrespect other track outiside of Europe (Kaylami and Bathurst are also very nice to race, although Bathurst isnt a F1 track). Perhaps I should have stated that often the older tracks are nicer than the silky smooth, no elevation and high speed corner circuits where you cant overtake. I love Maylasia for instance, would love to see that track back again.

When Michael Schumacher retired from F1 at the end of 2006, Ferrari looked to Kimi Räikkönen to fill Michael seat, freeing up a seat at McLaren which allowed a young Lewis Hamilton to be given his chance in F1. Then Schumacher retired again at the end of 2012 this time from Mercedes and to replace the great man they looked to Lewis where in Michael’s seat he breaks Schumacher’s all time win record. Fitting......

Bottas chose to do only two fast laps for Q3, he had the option to do 3 laps just like Hamilton, but decided not to. And during the race Mercedes have usually kept both drivers on the same strategy, Hamilton would often be frustrated that he had to keep to the same strat as Rosberg, making it difficult to challenge for the lead.

I sort of understand why Mercedes said no to softs. They could’ve gave him softs but literally everyone was struggling on the softs. That Redbull was 40 seconds off the lead on softs by the first pit stops, and Max was talking about how dead his tires were for a while. Putting Bottas on softs might’ve allowed Max to catch up due to fire wear. They couldn’t risk it.

Welcome to the team Katy! About your 3 word race review: Make Portugal Permanent I like to add that this race was mainly this good because they couldn't get the tires up to temperature as quick as they would elsewhere. So what I would like to see instead is more tracks from the EU in fall or Spring instead of all of them in the summer. I guess it would make for great entertainment with higher chance off rain as well.

First off, welcome Katy, this is fantastic news! A few notes: 1. I get it, we all want Bottas to beat Hamilton once in a while. Bottas is one of my favourite drivers, I do too. However, let's frame it another way. You have possibly the best driver ever, and his teammate regularly posts the best time in qualy (including this week), consistently finishes 2nd, is dependable, doesn't cause turmoil within the team, and even managed to get in front of Hamilton. Frankly, other than another star driver which would be spicy indeed, Bottas is exactly what you would want out of a partner for Hamilton, just like Barrichello was to Schumacher. Sure, a Verstappen or Leclerc would be more entertaining, but I don't think Mercedes would change a thing. Red Bull would kill to have a Bottas partnering Verstappen. If your expectation for Bottas is that he's on pole every other weekend and that he stays within 5 seconds of Hamilton, perhaps your expectations are what need to change, because Bottas is phenomenal and the perfect teammate to a GOAT. 2. I agree with Katy that the primary reason that made this weekend great was the lack of track knowledge, which makes me scratch my head about the "Make Portugal Permantent" 3-word race review. Surely if they make it permanent, the surprise effect will vanish. Either you want Portimao permanently for other reasons than the fun novelty brings, or you really like novelty and fog of war, you want to avoid having Portimao be permanent, surely. 3. Gradient is severely underused in F1-grade tracks. It's shame we missed out on Zandvoort's banking this year, but at least we got the Portimao ondulations in this very flat track world. 4. Thanks Matt for addressing the clash of Lando vs. Lance's fanbase. I don't particularly like or hate either Lance or Lando, but that Golden Child aura is a bit overwhelming.

The track is *the best track of the year.* There were actual battles all day in 2020 F1 cars! I think a lot of us are underrating how much _better_ this track is than _any_ other they’ve raced at this season, because Ham won again? Multiple overtaking opportunities, beautiful views, gravel traps, undulation, it’s by the sea so it’s gusty. Its honestly not even close.

Would like to point out that the DRS was very much amplified by the 20 knots/35 kph northwesternly wind that was practically in line with the straight. Under normal wind conditions that DRS zone would have been pretty well balanced by the look of it. Then again, that’s quite a normal wind for the area, so maybe it should have been predicted/thought of...

Lando's comments were savage, but he is the driver, he gets to be angry and take out his frustration in the media. You may like that, you may not. as a Finn I want Bottas to do good so much but it hurts me to see him struggle like this...he should've taken that race, he had the lead and he proved he can if fact get his elbows out at the start. But man Hamilton is just something else isn't he. I don't believe Bottas is inherently a bad driver it's just that he has THE best driver to compete with and he suffers from the old Finnsh curse of not having the winning mentality and just settling to second best. I feel like the midfield is the place where we could truly see the real Bottas prove himself.

There was no bias with Mercedes' decisions. In qualifying (Q3) Bottas *opted* to do 1 final flying lap, and Hamilton *opted* to do two. Both drivers stated that it was their own decision. As for the race, a Mercedes driver can't opt to take the opposite tyre choice to their teammate, once that teammate has already stopped. Both instances are cut and dry. There's no bias or 'hypocrisy' there, unless you want to manufacture it.

@@cpgautam172 yes, but there is so much that influences a good start. First of all you've got the reactiontime of a driver. Than you've got the engine, and how fast it reacts. Than you've got to have enough tyretemperature whish isn't the same for every car. It seems the redbull seems to have had problems with that for the whole year(look also at Albon his starts). And than in Max his case you also have the contact with Perez whish takes the car out of ballance, this compromised his speed towards the next corner. So yes maybe it wasn't his best start, but that was not all his fault. And he clearly made up for it by still getting the maximum result.

@@d.b.cooper1 I agree it is the second best car, but I do think the gap to Mercedes is bigger than Max makes it look like. And I think Albon prooves that by finishing 12th. I mean ofcourse Max is on another level than Albon but Albon can't possibly be terrible. If he would have been terrible he never would have gotten into F1 in the first place.

If you look at the driver of the day results sofar, it only has 1 mercedes driver. Think people are kinda fed up with their dominance. As for Lewis Hamilton, great achievement for sure but ... As Lando said, he only has to beat 1 or 2 other drivers to win, and has the car to win every race.

For me, one statistic I think really matters is ratio of pole positions to race victories. For the seven drivers generally considered to be the greatest of all time, it looks like this More poles than wins 🇧🇷 Ayrton Senna: 1 pole for every 0.63 wins 🇬🇧 Jim Clark: 1 pole for every 0.76 wins 🇦🇷 Juan Manuel Fangio: 1 pole for every 0.83 wins 🇬🇧 Lewis Hamilton: 1 pole for every 0.95 wins More wins than poles 🇩🇪 Michael Schumacher: 1 win for every 0.75 poles 🇫🇷 Alain Prost: 1 win for every 0.65 poles 🇬🇧 Jackie Stewart: 1 win for every 0.63 poles This demonstrates that, while Senna and Clark were disproportionately good at qualifying, and while Stewart, Prost and Schumacher were disproportionately good in the races, Hamilton and to a lesser extent Fangio are the two most all-round great drivers of all time. They are the most consistent. Clark and Schumacher are next best all-rounders.

Enjoyed it. What I would actually like to see is softer tire compounds. Next time the tarmac will be grippier, and soft compounds would lead to 2/3 stoppers, which these races desperately need. Shorten the main straight DRS zone, and add a second one after turn 4 so the passed car has a chance at a pass back. My 2c

Lmao love Katy have her on more. Lewis is the best Btw, I reckon this dominance from Mercedes is completely Ferraris fault. Ferrari cheated with their engine last year and let’s be honest, probably had been cheating since 2017. This pushed Mercedes to build the best car with innovations like DAS. We were hearing reports of burnout over the winter break and lockdown from the Mercedes factory. If Ferrari hadn’t cheated, then Mercedes probably wouldn’t be as dominant.
@kityhawk2000
@kityhawk2000 3 жыл бұрын
Actually it's Ferrari and Redbulls fault. Both of them started 2020 with cars slower than 2019. Mercs improvements are about on par with what you'd expect from a team year on year but the other top teams got worse so it makes a small gain look like everyone else is driving F2 cars.

If ur going to do these podcasts make sure Tommy does his usual research. It wasn’t that they “allowed” Hamilton to make his own call on Qually laps and not Bottas on tyres. Because the benifit was marginal they gave BOTH drivers the choice of one or two Qually laps and Bottas chose wrong. He said as much multiple times over the weekend

The reason Stroll got ( and deserved) his penalty was that he aimed for the apex when lando was still inside him. Frankly laughable that Matt can call it a racing incident in any way. I like lance and have been glad he’s shut a few people up this year but that was a slam dunk penalty. He turned in to another driver giving lando nowhere to go.

Perez himself said that maybe he should’ve left a little bit more space, cause he saw bottas forcing max off and knew he was gonna come back on track, so he did take himself out! Stroll cut lando off, the move was cool, but he should’ve waited just a little bit longer before turning in! There was no room for max or lando to go, so both rp’s took themselves out!

I am a self professed formula one noob. But one of the most consistent things I hear before a races is that there will not be much passing. Than because the DRS zone is “too long” cars were more likely to get passed. What are we complaining about? I loved knowing that coming out of the last turn the cars could floor it and pass the car in front. Making it a predictable passing zone.

BY The way matty, botas chose to do 1 lap , and not 2 laps in final run q3!!, he was given the same choices as lewis, he said so in his post qualy interview!!, and the team called lewis in earlier than he wanted, because they needed to get bottas of his tyres as they were falling off to much, and they said (which was proved by perez) that the softs would drop of to much before the race end, so max would pass him for second!
