My father had a 1967 3.5 coupe which was one of the first ones. He had so many problems with it, that in the summer of '68 Rover asked him to take it to the factory so that they could investigate it further. I and a close friend (both 14 at the time) went with my father and had a great time being taken around their test track etc. They sorted out the car and it was trouble free from then on and my father traded it in for another new one in 1970. When he picked it up the jubilee clip on the filler pipe was leaking fuel into the boot. My father was more upset by the fact that the front seat backs were three inches slimmer front to back than his first one. We were going to the 1970 British Grand Prix when on the motorway one of the Avon Turbo Speed tyres blew out at over 90 MPH. Wheel changed only for another tyre to do the same thing; so we never made it to the Grand Prix.

I suspect he doesn't like them, because they are really not particularly good cars. I like that Ford GT more than the current one. The current one may be a little faster but the original just looked better. That 5.4 was a bulletproof engine. Some supercars are notoriously unreliable but that 5.4 could go 300,000 miles even with a supercharger.

Re the Lambo LM002 - in the early 90s I worked for the BeeGees (I'm a musician) on Miami Beach. One day Maurice turned up at the studio with one of these - same colour with maroon leather inside. He'd just traded in his chocolate brown 928 (purportedly previously owned by Ferdinand Porsche's son) at Miami's Auto Toy Store. We went for a whizz round the block and my enduring memory is, as you mention, the vast distance between the front seats! Engine sounded fab but it was a lot of weight to pull around. Apparently it had been previously owned by a Saudi Prince and still had the mountings for some sort of gun emplacement on the rear bed! Ridiculous machine - I don't think he kept it very long 😄

Just a note on the 348, it wasn't just the Spider in 1994 which received updates, In June 1992 the rear suspension geometery was revised, the A arm fixing point was revised and the rear track widened by 2 inches. The front susepsnion received an update around the same time. 1992 also saw the electrical system revised and the alternator was changed along with a lot electrics to Nippon Denso for relaibility, my car has the denso electrics and its been very reliable for me. In 1993 the F119D and F119G engine was updated to the F119H, this was a higher compression engine (you can tell by the taller plenums), and at the same time they changed to the Motronic 2.7 ECU's from the 2.5's, this gave the engine a power output on the Euro spec cars 320hp from the previous 300hp. At this point they designated them GTB, GTS, only a small amount of these were made, at the same time the Spider came out too. One of the most desireable 348's is the 348GTB from 1993/94, they only made around 250 examples. I have a November 1992 348TB, it handles extremely well, although I just missed out on the F119H sadly, but the 348 is a very underrated car if you get a good one. Not all Spiders have the F119H, not all GTB's have the F119H either, so due dilligence is required when purchsing a 348......

A blonde woman had a an Evo 1 190e at the top of our road as a kid in the mid 90s. Used to drive past us relatively unnoticed. Compared that to the M3 from round the corner that all the kids swarmed around when leaving the drive. Brings back memories. Also the M3 lost its appeal when my dad's GT4 Carlos Sainz wiped the floor with it. 1st time my dad took me to 140mph on the A45 between Northampton and Wellingborough. 😂 Good times! Though the gt4 eventually got taken to the cleaners by a Nissan Sunny gtir (pulsar) Those things were rockets. Anyways am rambling. Enjoying the video, Harry!

Almost all no reserve cars? Anyone who's managed through lockdown with investment capital available is going to grab a bargain. Unfortunately, those are usually not car people. I fear most of the real gems will disappear into a conditioned U-store garage on an industrial estate for a long time.
