Hi Sandro, brilliant again; great explanation on primers. Those few days when natures light, at the right angle, exposes what was previously chased is a very hard get real pill to swallow to preserve, but then the 90% of days and light still gives a rewarding feeling. It's just hard to bear the taste in the mouth of the pill. Please, please, please manufacturers wake up, even future EV's will need some kind of finish; add an option for a second clearcoat run or get the boffins to change its make up. If providing "Wafffer thin" {Monty Python}, then surely they can add in some kind of ceramic at source that will protect for the loss but also protect Sandros craft for those who want the additional mint finish.

Beautiful results! I’ve completed my yearly enhancement polish on my two cars for the last two years with an AIO. This year, I used Rupes Uno Protect which was surberb and followed up with a sealant on one car and a wax on the other. The amount of time I saved was amazing and as there were only light defects, the results were great too. When you’re not coating your car and don’t need 100% perfection, the latest AIO’s are perfect.

Great job as usual. Question about masking trims... what trims do you actually mask up? I ask because I think I've seen you mask plastics, rubber, chrome etc, but I also see you polish plastic brake lights and piano black bits, which suggests plastics don't get damaged and therefore don't need to be masked up? Love your work.
@CarCraftAutoDetailing
@CarCraftAutoDetailing 3 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the job and trims because they can be so different from one car to the next - just like paint! But yes, if a plastic trim (clear or not) has a gloss finish I’d do generally correct it as well, but not if it’s a matte or satin finish.

There’s endless combinations and possibilities that could work, but I was looking for a one step solution rather than a two step which really shouldn’t be needed on a relatively new paint and would obviously take longer and require re-working the paint for longer which I was trying to avoid.

I’ve covered and discussed hand polishing in a few videos now, but it’s basically a lot of work to do it right and you really have to physically push yourself to generally get good results but it can certainly be done. Work small sections, use some good pressure and work the polish for as long as you can before you get exhausted, microfibre hand polishing pads can be better for removing defects but hand foam pads tend to finish better.

Well that video was shot when I first got both the corded and cordless new shine mates so I was testing both out. I think that if you’re doing thus professionally and can accept that the corded 620s are going to vibrate more and be a little louder they are great powerful machines for a business and pro. But I wouldn’t recommend them for the average user, and although the cordless polisher aren’t quite as powerful they are still more powerful than many other corded polishers and nicer to use, smoother, quieter and very convenient and capable!

The Fine DA compound basically never dusts for me, I do find it a bit on the oily side which can mean it takes more time to get that oil off the panel, but it’s a very smooth and easy wipe - can just take more IPA to remove the residue.

I discuss that very point in the video below kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5Otn5-nrtqga9E But basically the Rupes is a little smoother, quieter and nicer to use, but the Shine Mate is more powerful with less stall, more torque and really aimed more at the pro and not the guy looking for his first DA.

Brilliant.. been testing essence for a while now and to be honest, I too have had mixed results and plenty of inconclusive outcomes. I love how easy it is to work with and find it a dream to remove and that more than any other product less really is more! Honestly I just don't ever feel fully comfortable coating directly over them. I think one carpro reseller mentioned that before applying SIC he would recommend a wipe with Eraser albeit after essence has had time to bond - that said, what you explained in this video, that this could actually compromise its bond makes sense too. I've to apply SIC in about a month's time, what would you suggest - stick with a pure finishing polish like Scholl S40, essence with or without an eraser wipe off? Thanks as always. Ps KZbin (or maybe just me) is crying out dedicated video on panel wipes side by side!!

It’s still always going to be a case by case scenario based on what the paint responds well to and what’s most appropriate on each particular case so it’s hard to give advise as I’ll always change things up depending on the specific car, paint and job. So I think you could really go either way based on doing some test sections and weighting up options, but what I said about IPA wipes and primer polishes is what I’d stick to in that case.

@@yaishmatheen4274 thanks - I saw his video about panel wipes, I thought the methodology was pretty poor and the results inconclusive. I took very little from it, would be a different story if Sandro went about it i'd suspect. I do believe there are significant differences (good and bad) between IPA, bodyshop solvent and dedicated pre-coating panel wipes. Some are better than others at removing oilier compounds, those same ones can leave a haze on paint and can soften it... it's difficult to find a happy medium between a clinically clean surface vs. risk undoing your refining stage! Hard to bunch them all together as there’s things I like and don’t about all of them, but overall I’d say they are an improvement. The new pads feel even better balanced and performing but they seem to shed tiny foam particles which is annoying. The coarse compound seems to cut and finish better, but it does also seem to have quite a short cycle and dust a bit more. The fine compound is beautiful to use, no dust whatsoever and a buttery wipe off, but it seems to have an excess of polishing oils that mask the finish a little more than I’d like.

Hi Sandro. Amazing work here. I have the same color Subaru you’re working with. Did you happen to test Sonax Perfect finish on this paint? I’m looking to do one step correction on mine. My car has slightly more defects, but I’m still going to give your combo a try with CP primer polish/yellow pad. I just purchased a Shinemate EX620 5/15mm, but you had mentioned you’re okay to use the 15mm polisher because this car had minor defects. Do you recommend I use a polisher with less throw or will the 15mm still work well on paint with slightly more defects? Thanks

Thanks but no, I didn’t try Perfect Finish - although it can finish great on harder Euro paints, it typically doesn’t finish the best on softer Japanese paints. I think the 620/15mm will work just fine in both cutting and finishing - it can really do it all very well.

Hello, thank you for the great videos on this WRX STI. Very professional and informative! I have 2021 World Rally Blue USDM version. The car along with its defects are identical to this one, although it has very slight holograms (barely visible in direct sunlight) in addition to light swirling. I am looking to purchase an Adams 15mm Swirl killer(not the pro), CP Essence Extreme Gloss, and Rupes Yellow pads to correct the paint after this winter, in hopes for a similar outcome to this one. I was very impressed with the results on this car. Do you have a recommendation on pad size (5" vs 6") and your thoughts on the Adams Polisher for the price point? Also, how many pads do you generally use throughout the polishing process, and how often are you blowing/swapping them out? This will be my first time machine polishing - Thank you
@CarCraftAutoDetailing
@CarCraftAutoDetailing 8 ай бұрын
Great to hear you enjoyed the video. The Adam’s Swirl killer polishers are actually rebranded Shine Mate Polishers so they are great machines. I would recommend going for the 5” machine and pad size as it’s a good all round size and orbital throw if you want one machine to do it all. I’ll typically work with 3-4 pads at a time (per day) and blow them out after every set of passes and keep swapping and cycling through them after every few sections to allow them to cool and wash them at the end of the day. Thanks for the info and video link. I will check it out! Also, I looked into the Adams SK 15mm vs the SK Pro 15mm. Would you recommend one machine over the other? The description of specifications for each machine are very vague.. the SK "Pro" specifies it does have a 5" backing plate, while the standard model doesn't list a backing plate size. Only says "works great with 5.5" and 6" pads" The Pro is also capable of 5000 OPM vs the standard models 4500 OPM. I am leaning towards the Pro model as it specifies the 5" backing plate you recommended. Along with better reviews. Thanks for all the help and feedback @@CarCraftAutoDetailing

An interesting topic regarding using AIO primer polishes. But I still can't wrap my head around the fact that physically, wouldn't the ceramic coating sit on TOP of the AIO polish and not bare paint? How does that not affect long term durability since most coatings are designed to adhere to clear coat?
@CarCraftAutoDetailing
@CarCraftAutoDetailing 3 жыл бұрын
Yes I think that’s the same issue or thoughts a lot of us have had, but testing the theory out is always the best way to judge it, and as mention in the video, Primer polishes (or at some of them) seem to create that same sort of adhesion and bond just as well based on my own testing - but I won’t say that testing is conclusive, though it seems promising and true.

Hi Sandro, to prime your pad, do you do the “X” method that car pro recommends on the back of their bottles or just 4 dots? After the first initial prime, do you add the same amount when reapplying or less product after prime stage? Thanks
@CarCraftAutoDetailing
@CarCraftAutoDetailing 26 күн бұрын
Microfibre pads are the only ones I tend to prime and I do that but throughly wiping enough compound to cover all the fibres, I find there’s no need to prime most wool or foam pads, and doing so actually causes premature clogging, slinging and dusting. What I do is add a couple of extra drops on my first pass and then drop down to a a couple less moving forward - how much I add depends on the size of the pad and if I’m doing heavier cutting or lighting polishing.
