You get true value and quality for your money and there’s just no comparison here - Hyundai is not a luxury brand and their vehicles look amazing, have phenomenal features but lack the engineering edge in the engine and drivetrain - they look good, they ain’t good.

Either the gauges in the genesis gv80 are changed up or broken, but that was the eco mode gauge. When you put the car in sport in turns the tac and the everything else red color and the needle extends to its full distance. Over all I assumed the BMW would win, but I though it would be much closer.

You can customize the dash on the GV. I have mine set to the evo mode gauges permanently because they look the best.

This is a biased video, the speedometer never turned RED for the GV80. When you switch to sports on a GV80, the display turns RED. The base price of BMW is 79100 cad, also if you need the features like park assist, Napa leather, soft close doors, 2nd row climate control you would end up paying over 100k whereas the prestige edition of GV80 comes with all the features.

Ok. Even if the X5 makes 365-375 (which it may), it’s still a better engineered and quicker suv from the get go! I am going to buy that X5. My wife liked the Mercedes GLE350/450 but after we saw the worst reliability record from the Benz’s than the other German suv’s, we agreed well go for the BMW hands down. That is pretty much its overall performance and being the better looking of the 2 (that can be subjective as well). And make no mistake about it those X5 40i’s are expensive from the get go!

I own that same BMW, year and chassis (M Sport Package, 21" 741M wheels etc) except a different color. It's not even the 50i or M/Comp beast and still runs most vehicles on the road to the ground. It's also one of the smoothest rides you'll find. 335 HP...no. Cool video.

The X5 with the B58 has to be BMW’s most underrated power vehicle that it has. It’s 0-60 from C&D is 4.8 secs, 335 hp for a 4800+ pound vehicle, no way. This is faster than the lighter Porsche Cayenne while making the same hp figure. I think it’s making the M340i’s 382 hp and the M340i is making more like 450 hp.

Sam, there is no question about the authenticity of your test, and obviously BMW is quite faster (and probably has a more fascinating driving experience). But there is one caveat here. Hyundai (and Genesis) have proved to build some of the most reliable cars in the market and now they're as good as (and sometimes even better than) Japanese brands. A Hyundai car (even a cheap, non-luxury one) barely shows any issue (mechanical or non-mechanical) below 100K miles. On the other hands, German luxury cars (BMW, AUDI, etc) are known to be money pits and it's unlikely that they don't show any flaw even at 50K miles. And among those, BMW X5 is notorious for being one of the least reliable cars in the market. It's not my opinion, but the existing data says this.

I race at public drag and 2 BMW M5s broke down while racing--you pay for that gap in relibilityif you use it too much.I almost bought an X4 M comp but at rd atl after the second lap it went in limp mode because of heat.I have Kona N now and although about a full seond lower per lap--at ;ap 2 can get an X4 M comp because of the heat issues and it can keep going.Point is mute because if u have money just rent a track car for the extra 1k--you are fully insured and if u wipe u wont be out your daliy driver

I feel GV80 is designed to be slow in acceleration and smooth in ride. GV70 3.5TT on the other hand is much quicker even after taking account of weight difference, almost comparable to X3 M40i.

Hi Sam. Good drag racing comparison video between the 2021 BMW X5 40i vs the Genesis GV80. The X5 had the advantage because the pound feet of torque gets generated at lower RPMs. Gets generated at only 1,500 RPMs. This is why it was able to get up and go. The other reason was that it's a little bit lighter than the GV80.

I'm pretty sure most genesis suv buyers aren't into tuning but that truck would be a damn good suv to tune with that twin turbo v6 ..would peobly pick up a ton of power ...if someone even comes out with a tune for them.. as for .BMW they aren't making slow cars now days this was expected ....since there M340i came out they been just destroying everyone and now there M cars offer awd so we are all screwed lol.this is a good chance for Audi to come out with a few monsters of there own

What did you expect,BMW X5 is at least 2 second quicker 0 to 60 even though Genesis GV 80 has higher hp and torque ratings.I test drove a GV70 awd with the 3.5 t engine and it didn't seem all that peppy.My car with 260 hp and cvt tranny has a better initial pickup then the GV70.

I have a X5 40i and I also believe it is more than 335bhp. Don’t forget the 2021 model onwards also has the 48v mild hybrid which adds an 11hp electric motor giving the car a bit extra shove off the line. All in all the B58 coupled with the mild hybrid is a winner for me and just fabulous!

If racing is your thing, then BMW is your car. $30K difference in price wheh you do an apples-to-apples comparison in features. No comparison on maintenance costs. We had the X5 - just ridiculous on maint costs. Whatever makes you happy.

The X5 driver is brake boosting on the line. The GV80 driver is not. You can see the rear of the X5 squat before launching. That's why the X5 looks significantly quicker. Not a fair race.

X5 DEFINITELY making 350hp and up. My partner has one and he is always smoking people left and right on the road! Its such a comfy smooth ride too.

BMW publishes horsepower figures to suit their marketing strategy. This means that the 'entry level' model such as the Xdrive40i gets way underrated, Xdrive

I assume BMW measures horsepower at the wheels whereas others may be measuring from the crank. There is a noticeable drop in power from crank to wheel regardless of drive type.

My gut says the BMW is closer to the 382 hp of my X3 M40i, which flies esp. in Sport+ mode.

BMW X5, the most expensive SUV MAKER on the Planet. Also X5 was the first true sports utility vehicle. The industry followed. Do you seriously think any new comer could build a car to those specs at a lower price?? Fuck no. X5 is Filet. Genesis is Ribeye. X5 is and always will be a jewel in the industry because it was the first of its kind.
