I just have to comment. i drove a 2012 wrangler until 2021, it got totaled after i got hit head on by a drunk driver. i almost died and the emts said that if i wasn’t in a jeep i might have actually been dead. after that i spent the cash and i got a 2021 wrangler sport 2 door and it is my favorite car in the entire world. a jeep saved my life so i might be biased.

On a recent trip to Arizona I rented a wrangler from Vegas and drove to Havasu and the Grand Canyon for the week. It had the turbo 4 cyl.. I was impressed to say the least with the speed and power of the little motor. Plus we averaged close to 27 mph for the week. I had no problems at intestate speed, I’m talking 80 mph in a wrangler of all things with plenty of power on tap. I only wonder about longevity with all that power packed into a small block. Time will tell I guess. It’s not a 4.0

My bestie has a manual wrangler and we took it on a fairly tough trail last year, we eventually had to let it cool down for a bit because a clutch too hot warning came up. Even she admits she should have gotten an automatic wrangler for ease when going slow on trails.

I daily drive a Wrangler with the 3.6L Pentastar which has slightly more HP (285 vs 270) but less torque (260 vs 295). I came from an AWD GMC terrain with the 2.4L naturally aspirated 4 banger with like 170 hp. The Wrangler is so quick compared to what I was used to.

A '90s Wrangler was one of the worst vehicles I ever drove. Was expecting amusingly terrible, but didn't receiving the amusing. This seems significantly better in every way. I drive the same roads with fairly low profile tires on cars with more performance suspension (though OEM or close to it) and here's what I think must be the secret because I can't figure another explanation to my 900k miles of never needing to replace tires or wheels and only needing alignments in the very rare event that a front end part is replaced (like, 180k+ miles rare) regardless of pot holes or other bad road conditions: don't brake on the bumps and try to hit them with the wheel as straight as possible. Brake before impact, lift for the hit, then brake again. I started doing this out of a sense of mechanical sympathy and because it reduced wheel lock up (no ABS back then). I shouldn't need to qualify that you don't risk hitting the vehicle in front to do this, but this is the internet. Anyway, I think braking momentarily locks the wheel(s) as they leave the ground when they enter the hole, leaving the full force of the subsequent impact to concentrate on a single spot whereas allowing the wheel to continue rolling reduces that peak load by redirecting some of it at an angle with the rotation. I imagine that reducing the weight on the wheels slightly by coming off the brake contributes as well. I even drove a Focus ST over an island in an emergency and just scuffed the undersides of the skirts on the curbs. Also, get the smaller wheel packages. I don't do anything with a sidewall under 90mm.

Yeah, the one it sounds like you drove was a 95 or before wrangler. The first generation, with leafsprings. Of course it wasn't nice. It was a utility vehicle.
@mitchkelleher7972
@mitchkelleher7972 2 жыл бұрын
@@FreeRangeLemon I think it was a 97. Maybe it was older, but I'm pretty sure it had the round headlights. I expected a bit agricultural and old fashioned feeling, but I got something significantly less refined and archaic driving than a '38 Plymouth I'm familiar with. And it ate fuel like a '60s big block. Definitely not my thing.
