So nice to see a comment at the top from a veteran rider! I'm 68, bought my first bike the day I turned 15-1/2 in Santa Barbara, CA, and have owned Hondas, Triumphs, a BSA, an HD, and a Victory Kingpin. I can't wait to get an RE Meteor (demand is so great!) - and my point is that this is *not* at all a "first bike" for those like us, but rather, a perfect way to downsize from our "big dog" bikes and still have fun on the road. I guess it's just a blind spot for all these younger reviewers that they keep calling this a "beginner's bike"!

@@petehealy9819 Nice comment. Have had many myself. Currently 6. Haven't ridden my RT1100 since receiving my Meteor. Is a joy to ride. Is always wise to work up from smaller cc. I picked up my Supernova on 5th November it's ready for its 1st service its sharing garage space with my Himalayan both are excellent machines The meteor is the most comfortable bike I've ever owned and I've had a few in my 55 years of riding, it's exceptionally well balanced machine handles beautifully the gearbox is very precise and the fueling is spot on Concidering the purchase price its exceptionally well made with some details you would only find on significantly more expensive machines RE have another winner on there hands

Had my Meteor since July and have racked up over 2000 miles. Brilliant bike, so comfortable. It does have motorway capability and the engine feels a lot smoother when full run in at about 1300 miles, I did a 40 mile run on the motorway at a constant 70mph and managed to maintain this speed evrn on the inclines. Yes it feels a little buzzy but certainly not strained or stressed. It does require dealer maintenance at 3000 miles in the UK although the oil isn't changed until its 6000 service. For any doubters about the Meteor, ignore the performance figures and go try one. If you get the Enfield ethos you'll enjoy the Meteor, it really is a great bike! Great video by the way. I recently bought a Kawasaki W-175 here in Thailand. It's a 5 speed with counter balancer making it silky smooth. Almost exact concept of the Royal Enfield here. Huge gas tank, beautiful to look at, all day comfort and monkey simple to maintain. The only limitation is about a 90 kph top cruising speed. No problem on most back roads but I'm forced to the scooter lane on fast interstates. I'm almost certain my next bike will be a RE 350. The W-175 will go to my wife!

I'm thinking if the difference in roll on performance would swing your decision from an Indian built bike with 120 years of heritage to a Chinese bike with none , I think neither bike would suit you and you would be better off with Yamaha Sr400 or an Excellent condition XS650..Somehow the Royal Enfield have become iconic machines without real bike- performance ! If you are looking for performance you need to look elsewhere..if you embrace the slow speed characterful engine and lazy grunty power delivery and ride the slow speed torque then the heritage of the Enfield should swing your vote and more so with the classic on the way ..cheers..exceptional review as always Mark!!

@@stevied6286 I think you are wrong saying Benelli has no experience they are approx 100 years old and all engineering still done in Italy. Im not sure acceleration would swing my decision as i want one to plod around on but power delivery is still important. Ive hot a 1200 scrambler for scrsthching my soeed itch...
@stevied62863 жыл бұрын
@@andrewturner4728 I understand what u are saying Andrew but if you look at the bikes that benelli produced in larger numbers before they went bust the 400 imperiale just trades on the name with I'm guessing a Chinese designed engine not that that is inherently bad cos they are producing quality stuff..I'm just thinking that any difference between the benellis 19hp 400cc and the meteors 20Hp 350 is going to be so marginal that as to not make a noticeable difference in real world riding personally I'd go for the heritage of the RE ..now if the benelli had a 350 v twin then ........

Did you find yourself looking at the gear indicator, when shifting? I did, the shift up was so smooth, I couldn't hear the shift. My Harley Davidson Road King has that distinctive "clunk ", when up or down shifting. Cheers. 🙂 🏍

I find it very odd about the service intervals.. Here in the US. They recommend the first service at 300 miles!. Oil change and checking the valve clearance!. I have evevn been told that the intake valves are set at the factory on the tight side, and should be checked regardless!.This also goes for the Himalayan and Scram 411cc models too!..

How does it fair in the tighter bends? Asking for my grandad has he's looking to downsize from a 1970 triumph trident. Any other bike suggestions would be great.

Good review Mark but it's not really for me. It needs a few more ponies. The camera you use for your walk around is really good, very sharp footage. What is it? Is there any chance you good get hold of a Triumph Speedmaster to review?
@markpulling123 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex it's just my GoPro hero 7 black ....lots of other KZbinrs use a separate camera for this but I find it works just fine and less to carry :) Still looking out for a speedmaster to review !

How is this vs the classic? Seen some indian reviews saying this is the better to live with and do love to look of the supernova brown but torn between that and the halcyon grey classic

@@davebarclay4429 Hi Dave. Good point, although I intend to do most of my riding on tarmac, but I live about 4km up quite a rough track. What I probably need for the Meteor are 70/30 tyres to replace the standard issue ones.

Excellent review apart from a whole minute of dire music. I would think that the more frequent service intervals in India are to do with the heat and dusty conditions. No rev counter. I much prefer the basic one in orange. No rear seat or silly little backrest. But I couldn't get on with where the foot pegs are or the heal/toe gearchange. I think I'll stick to the 390. Haha! Edit: very attractive-looking engine. Forgot to say.

Hi Mark. Local royal enfield dealer assures me that the service interval is 3000 miles not the 6000 that you refer to.
@markpulling123 жыл бұрын
Ok that's strange because I got that from the royal enfield website ... thanks for letting me know :) I did actually speak to an re dealer myself a few months about this and he agreed it is 6000 miles BUT they and most other dealers recommend a 3000 mile check like you said . ...it doesn't hurt to change the oil more frequently anyway it's only a couple of litres of oil and a check ...quite a cheap service I would say Regards mark bikeadvice.in/meteor-350-service-interval-launched-uk/amp/ maintenanceschedule.net/royal-enfield-meteor-350-maintenance/

Gets passed on the motorway all the time. Gets passed in town leaving traffic signals. If I wanted a Royal Enfield, I'm afraid I will need to go with a 650 Interceptor. Here's hoping that Kawasaki comes out with a Z400RS next year.
