No one here? We had 30,000 tourists come just for spring break alone. I live here, this is my home, and I can't even go to the beach anymore because of how crowded it is. Too many tourists are coming here and disrespecting the mandates, disrespecting the land, and disrespecting us locals. We are in a pandemic and compared to the mainland, Hawaii doesn't have the resources to fight back another big wave. To anyone planning or considering a trip to MY home, be respectful to locals and when they say to not do something, listen to the mandates to keep my island safe, learn that we are more than just a vacation spot. Hawaii is sacred to us locals. And if you have no interest in understanding that, then stay off our island.

The locals kindly ask that even though visitors receive a negative test result BEFORE getting onto the last leg of your trip, to please continue wearing a mask and be socially distant in public. Too many visitors don't heed the mandate to wear masks, causing much tension. Visitors, please pick up your trash, don't litter, don't pick plants, don't pick lava rocks, and please show respect to ALL people. Thank you.

Almost every local person I saw were not wearing masks. As for tourists? Masks required in stores and restaurant waiting. Wearing a mask while on the beach or walking the beach is not necessary.
@kainoao20203 жыл бұрын
@@annethall it’s just annoying for locals because we are legit a island, so covid spreads like a wild fire. I see loads of tourist coming in with no masks and acting like nothing is wrong while local families are struggling to stay afloat because of covid. @annethall3 жыл бұрын
@@kainoao2020 I always saw tourists wearing mask in stores and many while walking outside which really is not necessary when 6 feet or just passing and not necessary walking the beach. But as mentioned, locals were few with masks. I totally understand the problem there and IMO the biggest problem is that the vaccine is so slowly given in Hawaii and not enough vaccinated. I also read that few tourists are actually giving the virus and it is the locals who are spreading it. I hope the vaccine becomes more available to people in Hawaii soon.

@@annethall I agree locals are not perfect and I won’t claim were that much better. Here's a Maui travel tip: You can sleep on Maui for free. Legally. There is a campground on the slopes of Haleakala. It is supposed to cost $10, but there is no attendant to collect if you arrive in the afternoon. When you wake up it is 20 mins to the summit because you are already halfway up the volcano. On two consecutive nights I stayed at the cheapest accommodation on the island and the most expensive. The first night we were at the Maui Prince. The next night we were camping. However, as a member of my family works in the travel industry, the first night was free too.

@@skrem23 Sorry, let me rephrase my comment since I think there's some misunderstanding. I understand that tourism is very important in Hawaii. At the time of my comment, the title of this video was "HAWAII IS OPEN AND NOBODY IS HERE", which did not sit right with me as a local seeing tons of tourists crowding beaches and other tourist areas and not following COVID regulations. It's concerning to see, and gives a misguided expectation to other people who are planning to come to Hawaii. I never claimed to "own Hawaii". I appreciate that the title has since been changed.

First timer to your channel, long time Maui visitor. Here are a few observations; You do a pretty good job with Hawaiian pronunciation for a first timer. Being a fellow East Coaster, you get up crazy early on Maui! I would have went with a Wrangler over the little Chevy. Much easier to see things from that little bit of extra height. Aloha Joey's Kitchen. Huli huli chicken for the win! My wife and I also spend time in a condo. As you found out at Kaanapali, EVERY inch of beach on Maui is public. Save money staying at condo, as most days we spend exploring. However, we always book five days or so at a resort. There is a R and R part of our trip, usually at the end. Very smart NOT walking down to the Nakalele blow hole as that was some gnarly wind.

@@timandfin Yes! I am definitely looking forward to the rest of the Hawaii vids. My girls will love the morning walks now that turtles are a part of the morning routine. Aloha and Mahalo!
