Nice review. I've had mine since March, over 2500 miles covered. Really happy overall. I find the gearbox pretty clunky in the first 3 gears, up or down. I had a warranty issue with the rear light which took a few weeks to resolve, but that was more a dealer problem than the bike itself. It's my first big bike and if I was picking my first bike again it would definitely be in my shortlist. Average of 55mpg, mixture of town riding, and b-roads. 80hp is more than enough power and the handling is great.

I would still choose the Honda CB650R over the Triumph. More power, nicer dash and the Honda build, reliability wins it for me. I owned a street 675R and reliability and build quality let it down. It was a breeze to ride & the triple sound were the positives. Great review as per normal Mark.

I recently purchased a Street Triple 765RS, but I have to admit, I find the appearance of the Trident 660 compelling. Just a neat looking, tidy, compact and stylish ride.

Hi Mark, good review. I've had the Trident for a week in the Paris area after a series of other bikes ranging from a GS1250r to a Tuono 660. I can quite honestly say for the moment that it's by far the nicest bike to ride I've owned. Everything works beautifully and the engine sound is great. Easy to filter through thick traffic, leans through bends very naturally, and the tires warm up instantly. Breaks are great, the chassis is amazing, power is fine in the real world but still running it in unfortunately. So I would recommend people to put their "for new riders" or "bottom of the range" prejuices on hold, and go and test ride one.

Thanks Tony sounds great 😄 Out of interest did you have any problems with the tuono 660 ?

@@markpulling12 It wasn't part of the series that was recalled. But it did make some strange grinding noises, and worked better after the first service. Otherwise it was a really nice bike. The new factory version looks even more polished.

l've just been using the Trident for a couple of days, whilst my Street Triple 675 r was being serviced. l found this bike very nimble on twisty roads, no effort to flick from one side to other. Always felt sure footed. A very pleasant motorcycle to ride... You've mentioned most of the salient points. l found the fly by wire throttle a bit lagging, especially at lower speeds...it didn't have the same snap that my cable controlled throttle Street Triple has, plus the Striples brakes are far more powerful, but then the front are four piston either side...As you said, for a newbe looking to move up this is a great bike...easy to ride and live with...

Actually headed to the dealership this coming week specifically to have a ride on this. Size wise and comfort it’s in that Goldilocks zone for me and after several years of waffling between too many new bikes this is now edging into my top five. This particular style of bike is where I have spent 80% of my riding career on so I expect a familiar friend aspect and I’ve always had a soft spot for Brit bikes a 650 Commando resides here now but has the associated era issues which I’m growing tired of fiddling with so it spends a lot of time looking nice but ready to run

A nice first big bike, or for the older gentleman trading down. I'd go for a triple over a parallel twin any day, so this over an MT07. Hi Mark. I've had mine for just over 2 years now and I'm really beginning to gel with it. It's got the quick shift option which I found could be a bit crashy and clunky at times, but it's now becoming silky smooth as the miles increase. Apparently these have quite a big chain slack (40-50mm) by design which doesn't help. Plenty of power and when you give it the beans it sounds superb! Sadly, I dropped it whilst doing a slow U turn and bent the brake lever but it bent back out ok.

Yep, the new Speed Twin is what I'm after as well. My problem with so many of these small, light, quick "runabouts" is the styling: nothing differentiated; nothing unique or interesting. I had a Triumph Trophy SE, which was a GREAT sport-touring machine. Unfortunately, with the indifferent styling, nobody ever knew what it was.
@Wayneebrum3 жыл бұрын
@@skillsonian who cares what other people think. Ride what YOU like, not what you think others will.
@skillsonian3 жыл бұрын
@@Wayneebrum I guess I should have explained further (did not expect such quick jumping-to-conclusions). The problem with bland styling is that the bike does not develop a following. Without strong demand, then, the manufacturer discontinues production of the model. Without a lot of bikes out there, service becomes more difficult, and accessories and aftermarket parts become scarce. Hell, the whole sport-touring category has essentially disappeared, replaced by adventure-touring. Indifferent styling, I feel, is a major reason for the disappearance of the category.

What happened to your usual intro? Is this video an indication of how your vids will be in future? Prefer them with your intro as I like seeing some of the many bikes you've test ridden or owned. Is this bike a poor man's Street Triple? Triumph to seem to have an awful lot of overlapping models to me. Tbh I'd take the Honda CB650R that you recently rode and reviewed and I'm a Triumph fan.

Hi Alex ...yes don't worry the old intro will be back ....I'm just having a play I suppose you could call this a poor man's ST ...it felt great but the Honda felt bit better quality :) Cheers mark

Can u modify for off road?
@markpulling122 жыл бұрын
I'd say not really....you could put semi off road tyres on it to do very light gravel tracks cheers mark

The price hardly matters the cb650r is only £4 more and the idea that a £100 either way when you are talking over £7000 is ridiculous

Not such lightweight when you consider a BMW S1000RR M SPORT weighs 193kg.

To me, the name just makes me think of chewing gum as there’s also a gum brand called Trident!

I wish they'd stop putting the Union Jack on the logo - surely it should be whatever the Thailand flag is?

Built to budget on Thailand with a logo with ques taken from the British Flag. Well done Triumph you must be so proud of this cheap crap you are churning out now.

I would partially agree with you, because of poor QC and yes it is budget motorcycle...can't deny it

The Japanese brands have factories is various countries around the world too. I don't know where my hondas were built, but the 900 hornet was substantially better quality the cbf1000. Bmw use Chinese engines. Would a UK made trident be better quality? I doubt it. It'd have to be more expensive to cover the higher factory costs as well.
@pggp2733 жыл бұрын
@@mickleblade of course the Japanese manufacturers build in other parts of the world and of course the trident wouldn't be a better quality if it was built in the UK. Your comment misses the point. All the other motorcycle manufacturers retain mass production in their country of origin. Triumph on the other hand shit on British workers yet still retained a nod to the national flag in their logo. To say they are a fucking disgrace and lower than a snakes belly would be an understatement. And I own a Triumph that was built in the UK but I won't buy another on principal

@@pggp273 oh dear, lol. So what do you think of bmw sticking union jacks on top of minis? Amusingly quite popular in France, along with matching t shirts /phone covers et
@Steve266442 жыл бұрын
Got to agree with@PG GP on this, Triumph want to sell their products as British and use the British heritage associated with the brand to sell bikes but use cheeper manufacturing options abroad. @Micleblade at least the Mini is made over here as are Indian owned Norton and the new soon to go into production BSA 650s. Im currently in the market for a middleweight naked sports bike and a Street Triple would have fit the bill perfect but I won't even go for a test ride on one. I will only consider the Kawasaki z900 and Yamaha MT09. BMW do exacly the same and use Chinese production while passing it off as German products and I wouldn't buy one of them either but also they have far too many reliability issues for me anyway. I very much doubt that very many people will have the principals to be at all bothered by any of this though.
