Air fryers do not deep fry which is what is required for battered fish, however, we buy frozen battered fish products and they turn out really well. Fish and chips in the COSORI air fryer using the frozen fish and home cut chips, is a favourite in our house .

Craig hit the nail of the head Pre Battered food is what the air fryers do well Instead of deep frying freezer food chuck in air fryer for less smell and better health (less oil) & safer for kids to use to make they own food sometimes compared to a vat of oil steaming hot

All the recipes I’ve seen, you cant cook wet battered products. You have think of an air fryer as a different cooking method. You wouldn’t expect a microwave (only) to brown (steaks/Toast etc) You cant cook a cake sous vide. Air fryers are excellent at what they do, but it isn’t fair to do a review on something it can’t . But otherwise, loving your work guys👍

@@SocietyKilledTheUnicorn Frozen is fine. Most frozen things you buy, ie frys or fish sticks have already been partially cooked and do really great in the air fryer. Wings are the best. I do a recipe called twice fried. Take a bowl and add your cut up wings (about 12). Add salt and pepper and a quarter cup of AP flour and shake it all up to coat the wings. Put em in the fryer on low 250 F for 18 minutes. Take em out and put them on a plate in the fridge for a minimum 1/2 hour. Then bring em out and cook em again at 400 for about 8 minutes. Bring em out toss em in a bowl with the sauce of your choice. The Crispest tasty wings you'll ever eat......

I saw this episode and it REALLY annoyed me. The one thing that everyone with an air fryer knows, and the INSTRUCTIONS tell you is that wet battered items are a no no, their, so called, chef should have known that! I've been watching the gadget show since it first aired and their testing is getting more and more ridiculously disconnected from real life.

I was going to say the same. The wet batter will not go crisp. Anyway its trial-and-error with anything cooked in an air fryer. You don't just take the word of what it says on the front of how long to cook for. They completely missed the mark on this one.

So I have the ninja dual and I know this sounds crazy, but when I do foods with a wet batter I usually brown in oil on the stove top first then let it cool in the fridge until meal time, then I pop it in the air fryer. I know this sounds ridiculous because the whole purpose is to reduce the oil for cooking, but cooking it in the oil in the skillet for a short time is certainly better than frying it completely. There are things the airfryer is perfect for, such as chicken wings, steak or Pork Char Siu. Precooked packaged foods such as frys, fish or just about any precooked frozen item works very well. It cooks better than my 700 dollar microwave and way easier to clean.

The question here is... Would you actually put wet battered fish in an oven ? Answer would be No!. So why place in an AF to test. Wet batter requires deep oil frying and if that chef was a true chef he should have known this and the test of the battered fish would fail . If it had been pre cooked battered fish the AF would come into their own .

@@twixter1000ableI know! I saw stuff on carnivore channels saying air-fryers were great for steaks and thought "nah, can't be", but then I bought one because I have a small kitchen and the Ninja is so versatile and tried a frozen steak. Mate. Brilliant. The outside has lovely caramellisation. The inside is juicy and medium rare. There's only a thin transition from the outside to the inside (the grey bit) about a millimeter. And the ease... 5 minutes to heat up, plop in the steak, season (grind some salt...), 7 or so to cook one side (The basket sears the bottom), turn it over and season, another 7 or so... Done. I just need to get a bigger freezer. BTW, spare ribs using the pressure cooker and then the fryer cycle... succulent and so much faster than an oven. I want to try French onion soup and sourdough bread. I saw it'll even do popcorn.

ive had 3 over the last 5 years before my current one. 2 were cheap crap bought in local department stores and the first being a 2nd hand one of bought off ebay and my current one were/is a Philips model. The fact they are not using the mesh based baskets on the Philips model for these tests is not fair of the Philips line which are the only ones , as far as a i know, with the mesh based baskets and circular curved bucket to promote air circulation efficiency. This is why now having tried MUCH cheaper models, ive settled on spending almost twice as much as any other, on the Philips model. I currently have a Philips XXL Digital and will be replacing it with another if this one should ever die! No i dont work for Philips !

I find that wet ingredients, like batter or saucy wings, usually don't work well in an air fryer. When I do wings for example, I do plain or dry rub adhered to mustard. I don't do fish battered in my Ninja AF101 it would get blown around the basket and make a fire hazard. I can't do toast in my ninja, unless I put something to hold it down..i've tried..fan too strong, bread doesn't stay in 1 place.

A ridiculous test, they are nopt designed to fry wet batter, I use the Ninja, but only with certain foods, I would never cookd a steak or a cook a full chicken in there, mainly fries/chips, and if the kids want a quick meal, chicken nuggets etc, its great to have the option to delay cooking times between 2 baskets, and pre-made and frozen foods are far better than doing them in the oven. Also warming up left over Pizza is great.

How dumb are the people who came up with this test ! You cant cook wet battered fish and expect to have nice crispy batter the same as when fried. Instead used pre-battered fish and it works just fine as does the pre prepared fish with breadcrumbs instead of batter. These cookers are NOT fryers, they are mini turbo fan assisted ovens.

My experience, air fryers have a place, but IMO a very small place in MY kitchen. It was worth it for me to have one just for my Checkers seasoned fries, so now I am not constantly buying 5-gallon drums of peanut oil, then disposing of 5-gallons of peanut oil. Checkers fries already have the perfect amount of oil in them and all you need to do is get them to the proper degree of doneness for your taste. Which sounds easy but it's not, towards the end of the cycle the dangerous part where an extra minute could be disastrous. It doesn't take much to turn perfection into UN FIT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION, with air fryers I will freely admit that I am what many would call PICKY! You have to realize that air fryers are different than anything you've ever experienced in all the years you've been cooking. Air fryers are IMO as much dehydrators on steroids as ovens. if you think about your air fryer as more a dehydrator/oven than a stand-alone oven you will be better off. This is the reason ALL EXPERIENCED air fryer users have and use spray bottles full of different kinds of cooking oils. This is to counteract the dehydration part of air fryers. So in reality an air fryer is not really an air fryer, it is a dehydrator-oven THAT NEEDS OIL. Ask yourself this, how many trained chefs have an air fryer in their kitchen? The answer should tell you something??? I'm sure there are specific things air fryers do very well, kind of like microwave ovens. Here is the best advice I have for new air fryer trainees, watch as many videos here on youtube to learn, and never put anything in an air fryer that you can't afford to throw away. I hope that helps someone out there thinking of taking the plunge into the bizarro world of air fryers. TheReaper!

You mention ''Checkers seasoned fries'' so guess you are from America ? All of us do not eat lots of fries of chips as we call them in the UK. Also we have plenty of fries, chips etc here is the UK that already have oil added onto them, they are called ''oven chips'' or ''french fries'' and again they come out really nicely cooked in my Tower ''air fryer'' But I use my ''air fryer for so many other things than just chips of fries ! Multitude of things you can use them for, they are amazing additions to the kitchen. I love my Tower air fryer and get brilliant results using it. They are really small turbo fan assisted ovens, so the name air fryer is really not applicable to them. They are also very economical due to the reduced amount of kwh electric power that they use. I use mine for virtually everything that I used my bigger oven cooker for, even made my own apple pie recently, came out really well. Today I will be using it later on the cook roast potatoes, roast chicken and a couple of small ready made Yorkshire puddings !

I don't think most of these tests are fair or conducted properly. The temperature test was only done at the end when it might be that the device just fluctuates that temperature but averages to the desired temp. Which is just entirely how they designed the PID. If he had used a smart thermometer he could connect to his phone and read the temperature over a length of time rather than the end. Then the results could be drastically different. A 10C difference isn't bad at all because the user can adjust the temperature after finding out it's literally too hot like a normal fan oven. But I don't think that's the case anyway. I think it's just a dodgy PID adjustment which makes barely any difference in the final outcome. Also wet batter? Seriously? It says in the instructions of all of them not do that. So that's a 👎from me.

You can't just put chips in and expect them to look after themselves.I start my, frozen (fresh isn't worth the bother!), chips off for a few minutes, give them a shake and season them, if you try and season them at the beginning the seasoning doesn't stick but after a few minutes they sweat a bit which allows the seasoning to stick. I give them a couple of shakes throughout the cooking period.

Everything I've cooked in this unit has come out great kzbin.infoUgkxD4Qeo-HRLxMfom_PDinM_SBfes00qJsB ! Everything tastes so good. Some of the recipes I've changed a little to improve the taste. For instance, for french fries which call for no oil, I spray them with olive oil and season them with salt and pepper. They come out great! It makes the best toast I have ever eaten. The recipe I use calls for lightly buttering both sides of the bread. It calls for cooking at 400 degrees for 5 minutes on one side and then 2 minutes on the other side. This time has a lot to do with the kind of bread you are using...so keep an eye on it. Also, the fans in this Ninja are a lot stronger than other air fryers. So lay a metal spoon or something on the bread to keep it from flying around. It's a little extra work to use your Ninja as a toaster but it is worth it!
