Well done video! I just bought a used 2019 Lexus RX350 and did an oil change. Sure enough, the oil filter housing was a generic aluminum housing. When I removed it, the filter fell out into my hand as well as a small disk because the cylinder was missing. Who knows how long it was like that and the Ford dealer I bought the Lexus from had just done an oil change. I was smart enough to have a new OEM Lexus (Toyota) housing ready just in case. THIS is just another example of why I have done my own oil changes since I was 13 years old (now am 58 yrs old). The MotiveX tools are also excellent and have used them for years now.

Great tip on the oil plug washer. My Tacoma washer has to be popped off with a screwdriver every time. Amazing that it sticks like that with the oil residue. Draining the filter canister is always a messy operation.

In my opinion every car should come equipped with side molding to prevent door dings!! But that's a money maker for dealerships/body shops.. I would love to add it but my wife drives this car primarily and knowing her as I do, she would think it would spoil the look/style of the car..

don't forget to prime your oil filter next time you change your engine oil, man. After you insert a brandnew oil filter into the plastic oil filter housing, pour fresh oil into it until it's almost full and be carefully not to overfill it since it'll make a mess. The reason why one should do this is because when the 2GRFE engine is first started up, the engine sucks oil thru this filter chamber and feeds the oil up thru the galleries running all over the crucial places in your engine. If within that first second startup the engine oil is starved, wear could take place. It won't be noticeable, but trust me, you don't want those rod bearings and piston rings wear out much faster than their life expectancy! I've forgotten to prime the oil filter once, and still remember the sound of the piston rings grinding against the cylinder walls. The sound lasts for only about a second, but I think the damage is done. I'm not joking. You can actually here the difference of how a 2GRFE engine sounds with a primed or non-primed oil filter. However, to hear the difference, you've got change the engine oil very late at night to minimize ambient daytime noise.

Oil pan drain: tighten to 30 ft lbs, oil filter cartridege: tighten to 18 ft lbs

not sure how many ft lbs was there, but when tried to open my pan plug, not moving, even with hammer hitting on the wrench. 😢

Try to do it today, but the pan plug nut wont move, its so hard to turn, even with the hammer hitting the wrench, gosh.

That plastic filter drain that comes with the filter can screw in so if you’re careful you might not get oil all over.

It was a 6qt box and there was a small amount left when it reached full so no, it did not take more than 6 qts..

This oil change was done at just over 5k miles and my maintenance required light had not come on.. I assume it comes on at 10k which is when the dealer will change the oil at no charge.. I just didn't want to wait that long..

I do every 5k but some will say that 10k is fine.. It's just a matter of opinion/preference..

Yeah that makes sense but I only recently heard of doing that with a new vehicle.. Dealer didn't mention it of course in fact they said oil change interval was every 10k.. I don't follow that I do it every 5k..

I know the Toyota Corolla went back to the spin on solid metal oil filters in 2020, I would have thought Lexus got rid of these silly plastic cartridges by now too. Very disappointing.

You shouldn't have to replace every time, the washer is soft enough to re-crush and seal. I always use again if I don't have one handy, and have never had any problems. But if you have it might as well.

How do you know you are tighten it down right? Is there a number of times you twist ?

The torque wrench measures the fastner's resistance to rotation based on how you set the resistance.. 18ft pounds of resistance on the filter housing and 30ft pounds of resistance on the oil drain bolt..
