You really can’t beat a sporty Honda for a daily driver. Sure it’s not the most exciting thing on the road but the reliability, fuel economy and driving dynamics make it pretty ideal for a do it all car.

Honestly its mostly just a symbolic gesture, most of whatever you're going to track into your car isn't going to come off by clacking your shoes lightly 2 times. It will help some obviously, candy wrappers or leaves might fall off if you've stepped on them, works decently with packed in snow, but its not enough to keep your car clean. That's why most people just keep all-weather floor matts and spray them off as a more viable solution to every other scenario, or just get their car detailed.

Does that tune void the warranty? Honda does get nit picky when you do light mods to it. Back in 2010 I LS swapped my 08 s2000, blew the head gasket and they were like "no, we can't cover something like that". I understand why, as the wheels were still stock.

FYI: The tendency of the steering to center itself (ie: the car to go straight) under heavy throttle can be used to verify that the Honda dealer hasn't screwed up your alignment. If the rear toe angles are not equal, then the wheel won't center to straight. If you ever get an alignment, make sure to check the rear toe angles.

While everyone else has moved away from producing light, manual, fun to drive cars, Honda hasn't. What other sports sedan other than the m3 has a manual these days? Also, I love how Honda keeps things simple. They know their customers want a decently quick car that is reliable, fun, and simple to use. That is exactly what Honda gave them. @Official_MikeyT
@Official_MikeyT 2 жыл бұрын
That's the problem with Hondas. Within a week of the first 2022 models landing in my neighbourhood, a blue one was stolen. Honestly part of that is most likely due to my neighbourhood being a sort of mecca for street racers ever since the 90s which causes a halo effect that increases the already high theft risk of anything with a Honda badge, specifically the Civic.

I’m no Honda expert, but from what I know about how some (hopefully all) manufacturers do things when it comes to start stop, the car logs everything from exterior temperature, engine temperature (coolant, probably oil temperature too), battery level, interior temperature/AC setting and so on. Plus keep in mind that the car doesn’t completely shut off, it keeps most systems up and running (and yes that includes part of or the complete cooling system, depending on if you have a mechanical or electrical water pump or both). Basically, what I’m trying to say is that you shouldn’t worry about it, the car should start the engine if the temperatures start to creep up after it automatically shut off, that is if the Start Stop would even shut off in the first place.
@Cre8tive81
@Cre8tive81 2 жыл бұрын
You most def. need to worry about it! - The hesitation to accelerate is horrible and dangerous. - The added complexity only means more issues later - The built "stronger" components such as the starter, battery etc means higher costs to replace and larger batteries in landfills. - Annoying to always push a stupid button. Needs to be off by default AND the dash light should be off IF the system is off, not the other way around.
@klaspeppar5619
@klaspeppar5619 2 жыл бұрын
@@Cre8tive81 well, as a mechanic, i partly disagree. Yeah, the start stop can be annoying, especially if it is a particularly “aggressive system” that shuts down the engine before you even come to a full stop and some more wear is some what expected, although marginal. The way most start stop systems “shut off the engine” is so that one of the pistons is right there ready for it’s combustion stroke, right before one cylinder is ready to fire, making it easier to start the engine back up, which means less wear on the starter compared to when you manually start it. I have written more about the 4 stroke engine cycle below in case you aren’t familiar with it. Furthermore the start stop systems usually monitor engine temps and should not “activate” unless the engine is up to working temperature, at working temperature the oil should be at its optimal viscosity, plus the fact that the engine have been warmed up and oil has gotten to where it needs to be in the engine, so that most of the engine should be lubed up better than when you first start it, which also means less wear on the internals. As i said above the increased wear on engine with start stop is marginal, if the system is made and runs correctly. Although I agree that it can be annoying and I also understand that some find it more annoying that others. But the great thing with a manual car with start stop is that you can decide yourself when you want it or not, by not putting the car in neutral for shorter stops and in my own experience with a start stop systems that starts the engine back up when the clutch is pressed down, it shouldn’t be too annoying as the engine should have started before or during the time it takes to put it in first gear. The 4 stroke principle, “first stroke” piston goes down pulls in air, “second stroke” piston goes up compresses the air and fuel gets added, “third stroke” the combustion stroke the spark plug (or compression in Diesel engines) ignite air fuel mixture which forces the piston down, “4th and final stroke” exhaust stroke is where the piston pushes out the remaining gasses (and sometimes unburnt fuel) out the exhaust. And then the cycle repeats.

I just traded in my two year old ‘22 Mazda3 Turbo for the ‘24 Si and couldn’t be happier and for all the reasons you cited in your video. Sure the Mazda3 was more luxurious and even a bit more powerful, but its lack of manual, LSD, good gas mileage (was getting 19-20 which is way less than its promised 27mpg), and their terrible choice to go with a torsion beam suspension all led me to losing joy in driving. All of my previous cars before the Mazda were Si’s and the RSX Type-S and made me realize how much Honda still understands the driver experience. Hopefully they will continue to do so in the future.

I decided on my MK7.5 GTI for many of the same reasons. You can have fun without drawing attention and mixed driving still averages you 28-29 MPG at the pump. After watching many EV and ICE car reviews, I've noticed that there are two main themes: the driving experience itself and how the car as a tool influences your lifestyle. I think the second is much more important for most consumers. EVs seem to be moving in the direction of making the process of going from A to B seamless while legacy manufactures are still attempting to please car enthusiasts with every car design. We will see which strategy works but I think there is a large difference, which we should not blend, between a daily driver and a car you can enjoy in select areas on the weekend.

My 2022 Civic Si shares garage space with a 21 Type R LE and a 2019 Acura NSX. At first I was underwhelmed with the Si, but the more I drive it the more fun I find it because of its low limits. Compared to the Type R it is way less hardcore but I used to find the Type R more fun than the NSX because you didn’t have to push it as hard to enjoy it, now I think the Si is kind of more enjoyable than even the R for that exact same reason. My gripes with it are, the shifter is not nearly as good as the R and I am surprised that the ride isn’t a little smoother than it is. Unlike the R, I actually don’t mind the fake engine noise in the Si….. they’ve tuned it far better now so it doesn’t sound so digitally enhanced

I had a Honda Civic once. I bought it used. Very used. Very cheap. Basic sedan, not even an Si. It wasn't fast, however, taking it to the rev limit was surprisingly entertaining (5 speed manual). I found out that it can oversteer in a turn. I was playing around on an on ramp and accelerated a bit more than I should have causing it to start oversteering. It was raining, and it needed new tires. My first reaction was to lift off the accelerator, which caused lift throttle oversteer, so I was back on the accelerator, but lightly. Got through that okay. Fun little POS. After six months of driving it, it quit working. The problem wasn't Honda quality, but many miles (300k+) and poor maintenance. Passenger side front door I had to secure with a bungee cord, or it would swing open during left turns. Couldn't operate the passenger side rear door either. Climate controls were nearly non-functional. It was a fun six months, though. Certainly changed my mind about small Japanese cars. I now have a 2017 Mazda MX-5. I've recommended the Si to someone looking for an affordable car that was fun to drive but a little more practical than a 2 seat roadster.
