I have the 2021 TRD PRO in Lunar rock. I drive like a Grandma. I usually get 19-21 mpg per tank which is not bad considering my average drive is 20 miles. So there is a lot of start-up / warm-up per tank. I have got up to 24.5 mpg on single trips (20-30 miles) back roads 40-45 mph is perfect for rpm vs. fuel efficiency. That 5-speed is horrible for gas mileage. The Nitto's are about 2 mpg less than an all season tires. Coming from heavily modified V-6 Accord and 4 Hondas before that which I got 34-40 mpg is tough with gas prices so high, but I love how I don't have to scan the road for potholes and debris. It's actually more relaxing. It is by far my favorite vehicle I have ever owned, but I wouldn't mind having a "fun" weekend car with a stick and maybe a convertible. Since I don't have the space or money for a 911 the CBR will have to do for now. Great review.

I've also noticed 45 to 50 mph is ideal for mpg. I live out in the country and there are alot of 55 mph roads and the average mpg around those speeds are in between 23 and 25. It's better for the mpg to just cruise slowly across town than get on the hwy. I don't mind it either.

@@karkule5919 A little background of what I do helps, As an auto engineer i design and help manufacturers by testing parts for the cars. Some of these parts are called OEM (original equipment manufacture) and AMP (After Market Products). Most auto car markers put basic parts in a car because it saves money and meets the specifications. I don’t want to get into the details of this. Typical all cars can improve their performance and fuel efficiency by 3- 5 mpg. 1. Change the stock Air Filter to a K&N filter. You don’t need the cold air intake just the filter it self. But the cold air intake does improve air quality by 3% more. 2. Rolling Resistance, meaning inflate your tire to 40 psi but make sure your tires max are 5 psi lower than the max pressure. The types of tires makes a difference. The trade off is your car performance and grip will be less. But if you drive safely you should be fine. 3. Change stock spark plugs to performance parts or iridium. 4. Change the stock exhaust to performance exhaust, I installed a dual exhaust and the output is easily noticeable. 5. Driving habits easy on the gas petal in the city. Use the idle stop if your stuck in traffic for longer than 30sec. That’s only if your car has the system installed. 6. Cruise system works great on flat land, but not so great on hills. It’s best, to control with your foot going over hills. You want to keep your rpm below 2,000 if possible. 7. Install an Oil catch can, this engine is a GDI and this will prevent carbon build up. 8. Change to full synthetic oil, because it will last longer and protect your engine while improving performance. Also clean your Mass Flow sensor every oil change. 9. Don’t by gas from the cheap from gas stations. You want to use Top Tier Fuel, examples Shell, Exxon, Costco, and etc. 10. Aerodynamic. Having a roof rack and extra weight make the car slower and inefficient. Only use what you need. Hope this help, even doing a few of these modifications will help your suv performance. 11. There is a carbon filter or charcoals filter in your air box for almost all Toyota but that is to ensure all cars meets the emission standards for certain states. You can remove this and see a 5% increase in efficiency. Hope this helps y’all out there.
@redlinearroyo8472 жыл бұрын
@@09FoxRider they're not GDI. It's MPFI, it's a old school port injected 1gr and it doesn't even have the d4s system so there is no direct injection. Otherwise for the most part this is accurate. Adding a K&N filter does improve mpg but let's through alot more dust and debris and I live in a dust bowl so I'll stick to Wix filters which do a much better job of keeping the intake clean from dust. But the exhaust and tire pressure are good tips. Some oils have better cold flow characteristics and also at temp and can improve mpg. Pennzoil flows really good at all temps and had a robust additive package so it protects but still provides good mpg. I also like using shell gas anyways so yeah.

@@09FoxRider Nice info Mike. Just wanted to add something to the driving habits on the highway. He's right about cruise control...turn it off. When cruising on rolling hills...either maintain or better yet... slightly lose speed going up the hill. You can gain the speed back going down the other side....and just cruise on the flats. After while this trick will become second nature. If necessary start the ascent a few mph over the limit...so as to not bleed off to much speed. Accelerating UP HILL eats gas. I have a 2018 trd pro p/u...and can get 24 mph if she stays 70ish...and routinely get 20ish around town.

I own a 2022 4Runner TRD Pro in this exact color right now but my previous car about 3 years ago was a Grand Cherokee Overland. For a daily driver (and especially if you don't offroad), I'd definitely recommend a Grand Cherokee in term of ride comfort. The 4Runner TRD Pro has a huge amount of noises from tires, wind, etc. (which I'm used to as I traded in a Ford Raptor for the 4Runner), but if you're not used to the noises of an offroad vehicle you'll get drained on long trips very quickly.
