2023-2024 KTM Cylinder honing / Saving $950 by doing it!

Well if your cylinder looks like mine (after 17 hr ) then by doing what I did you can save $950 by not buying another cylinder for you KTM branded bike. Recommend after doing the honing measure the cylinder bore and order a piston from Wossner. How can you save 950 on a 300 dollar plating + honing job? Just get the plating service and wössner piston and let er rip :)

The new cylinder cost $980 The time it takes to get the plating done is a month at least...

So many people say dont hone. but if you do it right you save a bunch of money. If you do anything to much obviously you can damage it.

NEVER hone a nicasil cylinder!!! Good chance he went through the coating to bare aluminum. Use coarse scotchbrite and WD40 instead. Only need a light wipe to prep for rings.

Veryyy nice. Did you just recently get that TSP head? How do you like it? Did you also do their ECU tune?

Yes I just get the TSP set up no to long ago.Have they ERM which I'm going to test it. that's gives full access to power valve, ignition, throttle body and ECU to adjust. My first impression video coming out this week Friday about the TSP head and work I did to the engine, Thanks

I honestly do not have the know-how to use that ERM. The amount of adjustability will also cause so much paralysis due to the infinite amount of choices I would never find an end to searching for the “right” setting. Looking forward to hearing what you think about the head though.

What was you clearance before and after?

I think the honing didn't change the size much in my case because I really just cleaned the cylinder up and made the oil patterns not running the hone just for a few seconds. and I measured the size after don't know what was it before

You had a cold seize on that cylinder. I've seen many of them. Warm up the bike properly and that won't happen. You're lucky it wasn't so bad. As long as you don't go through the niciseal when honing that coating you will be okay.

Thanks for your input. A little addition to the story I leave in Florida and this is happened summer time. The Cylinders on the 23-24 KTMs are not made in Austria anymore they are making it Taiwan and just not the same quality control

@@roberturmosi-dirtbike-atv Maybe the quality is not as good but that is a clear indication of cold seize. You don't have to live in cold climate for a cold siezed cylinder.

@@onthethrottle7104 Well I buy multiple bikes each year and never had this problems before. I treated this bike the same way as I do with the others. Now on I going to spend more time to warm it up just to be safe 👍

Thats not correct either. Kymco"s are made in Taiwan, Elko's Austria. Easy to tell, Elko's have the two boss's at the top rear on the right side of the cylinder. As you can see this cylinder had Kymco right on the left side.@@roberturmosi-dirtbike-atv

@@roberturmosi-dirtbike-atv Some parts just tend to be a little more fragile than others. Warming up is always a good thing, take our time. I teach my riders, when you get up in the morning out of bed you don't take off running real fast or you will pull a muscle or tear something. Anyway, I like how you spend time tweaking things and looking for better ways bikes can run. I give you credit for that. Keep up the videos they are getting really good. Thanks for the content!

They are made to start and let idle. When you rev the new injected bikes the piston gets hot too quick and bam.. done. Comes from lack of lubrication. They can run as lean as 80 to 1. Which is fine.. until it isn't

using a ball hone on a nikasil cylinder is one of the worst things you could do with them. you have totalled a brand new good condition cylinder.
