The car is absolutely gorgeous, but how on earth do you not have a front axle lift for a car of that expense that is so low and how do you not have Apple CarPlay. The interior also desperately needs modernization. But on the outside I don’t think there’s anything more beautiful on the road. The depreciation on the car is gargantuan and you can pick up at 2019 was under 10,000 miles for about $200,000. If I ever got one, I would retrofit a front axle lift and Apple Car play for sure.

Twill carbon fibre is still a type of woven carbon fibre. Normal carbon fibre is in a checker board pattern - under, over , under, over like a wicker basket. The twill weave skips every second square so it looks more like lots of little rectangles offset by half kinda like a brick wall (without the grout), rather than lots of little squares, twill quite often being the preferred visual appearance of the woven carbon fibres.

To me the DBS Superleggera is a modern icon, mostly because it serves as the rival to the 812 Superfast. Both are cars that do not fit into our current world, with their beautiful lines and their loud V12s. Yet they exist and stand proud as the epitome of a long forgotten breed of car, the luxury grand tourer. A kind of car that had it's glory days well in the past. Just so you guys know, chopped and twill are the correct terms for those types of carbon fiber. Chopped is called that because the carbon is, well, chopped, into small pieces which are then compressed in a mold and infused with resin to create the part. The reason it’s not as strong as other types of carbon is because the fiber orientation is essentially random, so you can’t strategically orient the fibers for the best strength for the application. At the same time, the random fiber orientation does lead to a more uniform strength. The whole forged carbon thing is just what Lamborghini wants to call it. Twill is called twill because what’s what you call woven fibers like that in textiles. There’s also Unidirectional (UD) carbon fiber (which is often used in the chopped carbon that I’ve seen) which is when all strands in a given layer are oriented in a single direction. Visually, I think UD carbon fiber is the most interesting looking. Additionally, as long as you can properly engineer your part for the loads that are expected, UD carbon is also the strongest type of carbon fiber. The last main weave of carbon fiber that you’re likely to see is spread tow carbon fiber, which is kind of like twill in that it also has the woven pattern, but each layer is generally much thinner and the pattern you get from it has much larger squares than twill. Often it will end up looking like the pattern has 1/2” (~12mm) or larger squares of carbon whereas twill is generally around 1/8” (~3mm) squares

@@judygillespie3717 its just the dash that looks a bit outdated for its price because with $50k more, one will get their hands on a 765LT. I still like this Aston a lot, the price just needs to come down a little.

Aston continues to make one of the few of these crazy luxury cars that can be dropped in on any piece of scenery and never look out of place. I could imagine this at the Vatican just as well as someone's driveway and it'd look just as at home regardless.
@andrewduong2740 Жыл бұрын
It's weird, because it's usually more humble cars that earn that kind of status. Like the Golf, the Mini, and older Mercedes sedans.

Luxury car that rattles at highway speeds? 😂😂😂 Car that will be worth the same as a used Lexus in 10-15 years with 20 broken things? The car is very pretty and sounds gorgeous, but $400k? you have to be a special kind of dumba** to say it’s worth it

Chopped and twill are both normal descriptors when purchasing raw composite fabric. Chopped is not common outside of mundane fiberglass or e-glass, but would make sense in general as a fabric of choice if you were cramming chopped strand mat into a mold for interior components. A practical choice, and pretty cool of them to draw attention to; it makes more sense than contiguous woven fabric, but costs less so fools might see it as less desirable. Twill weave carbon and kevlar (aramid) is all I've ever worked with, it is ideal in many ways for layup of arbitrary shapes.

Excellent stuff as always guys. Aston does have this special allure to it. Almost like it lives above just being a car. That said, utter insanity that they’re using tech from a 2014 Mercedes in 2023. No car play is equally absurd. It’s one of the reasons I have a hard time pulling the trigger on a newer vantage. Still, that Aston badge and the rareness attached to them makes it sooooo hard not to love them
