Everyone harps about the headlights but the vast majority of people just leave them on auto. Its pretty easy to tell that they are working and it is such a mature technology that I never doubt if they are working properly.

Just nice if you are sitting at the store at night in the middle of winter while your wife is inside shopping and you leave vehicle running to stay warm. The lights are blaring. Also if stuck in traffic at night the guy in frt of you will be pissed cuz your truck sits up so high blasting in his mirror😂

I also agree with center consol. It feels large up frt and hard to lean over to grab something from pass floor board if need be. Also seems like rear seat area and under seat area is small. Can’t even stick golf umbrella under back seat like older Colorado.

you are 100% correct on the headlight issue. Not to mention, if something happens to the touchscreen, it's gonna cost far more for the replacement as well as the additional labor to replace the unit.

I am still driving my 2010 Canyon. my plan was to switch to a new one in 2020 but I was not a fan of that model and knowing a new design was on the way made me wait a couple more years. it seemed pretty much impossible to get a 2023 in Canada (they just arrived a few months ago) but i was finally able to test drive a 2024 the other day and i think it was worth the wait. I am ordering a Denali as I want it to last me another 10yrs the only way to go is fully loaded. I see many people comment on the price as if it is expensive but the equivalent truck in full size is almost to double the price! (60k vs 100k CAD)

I really enjoy your channel! I’m not part of the LGBTQ+ community, just a bland straight married Midwest white guy 😂 - but really appreciate your approach and insight on these trucks. I may be straight and white but I am most definitely not a toxic male so was intimidated by getting my first truck until I saw your reviews. I wanted something to commute with yet had more utility purposes than my previous SUV. Wanted to avoid the large trucks due to size but also somewhat the stigma attached to them. I prefer convenience, comfort, look, and tech over power, size, and image. Thank you for your insight and enjoy subscribing to your channel! BTW, completely agree with you on the shifter! I often find myself shifting too far into low and then rev my engine when I get going not realizing I shifted too far into low.

I love your build the only thing I'd change for mine would be I wouldn't add the trailering package and I'd the Bose system but everything else is the same as my build...I appreciate your honest nitpicking it was very helpful, those little things may not seem like a big deal to some but they can start to be very annoying. The headlight controls are shocking, that is a terrible place to put them, seems very impractical and unsafe.

Hey great video! I need to add one thing. You said the 4x4 across trim levels are the same width and hight. But there is one feature not available in the base Elevation trim level and that is the 2 speed transfer case. The only one available is a single speed, which 4x2, 4x4, or AWD settings.

Glad you enjoyed! You're right, the 4WD setup on Elevation is a little different but that doesn't change the ride height or vehicle dimensions otherwise.

If you research it, they've put a lot of effort and engineering and money into that engine.. I totally understand the hesitation but that's the way the industry has been going for years and while there have been some issues, for the most parts, vehicles aren't losing engines left and right. The 2.7L has been out in the Silverado for about 5 years now, and if it was horrible, we'd know about it by now. Given it's the base engine in the Silverado it's most likely going to end up in the hands of buyers that might not be so good on maintenance or end up in fleets where it idles a bunch and so far so good.
@OutMotorsports
@OutMotorsports Жыл бұрын
Thanks! To @michael.sierra's point, this 2.7 started in the Silverado/Sierra and GM did a lot of work with the internals to make sure it was up to truck use.

Totally agree with the light switch or rather lack of it. Reaching for a light control on a touchscreen is not ideal at all. Very unsafe. Hopefully they will change that going forward. In general this is a very nice Tru k and will do well. It seems the Ranger is falling behind despite the fact that the 2024 is all new. Ford pricing is a bit out to lunch as well. Thanks for the video!

Sorry it did not come with a hitch to do some towing. I did a short 20 mile tow using my 2023 Canyon with a travel trailer weighing around 7,300lbs, 32' total length. The power was great but the setup was lacking sway control (the trailer was my parents and they use a F250 to tow it). The drive was bouncy, winding, and windy . The Canyon did ok, but sway control would be a must for any long hauling...at least with the trailer I was pulling. I ended up getting the Denali trim, it did not come with a OnStar service plan so it was discounted $1,500...not sure why but is was not much more than a well equipped AT4.

Glad midsize trucks are getting some much needed love. They weren’t bad before but now with more capability I think many will more seriously question if they actually need a full size. I know if these were around before I would have been more open to them in lieu of getting my F-150.

The only thing I'd have done differently on your build is spend a little extra for the upgraded audio system. Modern vehicles are such a pain to upgrade - it's costly and difficult, if it's even possible. Not getting one with the premium audio is the only regret I have with my 2015 Chevy Volt as the base audio is truly horrific. I've always built my own audio systems in previous vehicles but on the modern stuff it's not that simple. On the Volt, for example, like this GMC truck too, the HVAC/climate control and all the vehicle settings are integrated, so the days of just swapping in a head unit, a 4 channel amp, and some new speakers are long gone :(

Yeah, that was one where I'd heard the Bose system in the Canyon Denali and thought it was better... although not "exquisite" or anything. It's a $500 upcharge so definitely worth doing for those who care.

If you never see snow/mud then definitely, and tires do go a long way. The way I use trucks, though, makes a 2WD truck a very silly purchase. But I do have a friend who owned a 2WD Tacoma - tires and the locking diff got it places I didn't think it'd go.

I always get a laugh at people that say “I miss when mid sized trucks used to be 10k” well no shit trucks back then were only single cab with no power and no where near as modern as vechicles are now days, prices are very reasonable, except for those 80+k trucks
@OutMotorsports
@OutMotorsports Жыл бұрын
Everything's become bigger and much more feature-rich. An old midsize GMC Sonoma, to stick with the GMC theme here, had a base MSRP of $12,000. In 2023 dollars, that's $22,827. The new Canyon starts at $36,900 but comes ready to be off-roaded, and that upfitting would've added cost to a Sonoma. "Basic truck to basic truck," a new Chevy Colorado bases at $29,200 so $6,300 more than an old Sonoma and is faster, safer, more comfortable, more capable, etc. New midsize trucks can do much of what an 80s-90s era half-ton could do. What everyone should be upset about is wages not keeping pace with inflation, not the price of new trucks. But also maybe the price of some new trucks because they can get stupid.
@walley2637
@walley2637 Жыл бұрын
@@OutMotorsports yes I agree. I had a GMC Sonoma in the early 90s and it was the Durango version which was fully loaded with a 6cyl motor that was over-powered. it winter the back tires would spin as soon as i took my foot off the brake. compared it the current trucks it was a bare-bone work in progress.

Dont care for the wheels and that the rear seat doesn't fold down. However, I like this truck. Can you get bigger tires on the AT4?
@OutMotorsports
@OutMotorsports Жыл бұрын
The tires pictured are the only size that GMC will sell you on the AT4 trim - either a 265/65 on 18" wheel (31.6" diameter) or a 275/60 on a 20" wheel (33" diameter). The AT4X comes with 33s on a 17" wheel. Not entirely sure how big you can go without rubbing if you want to upsize - the AT4X sits another inch-ish higher than the others so that would help.

I bought a new 2022 GMC Canyon crew cab in January this year(2023). Why? I did not want to deal with the 2023 turbo 4 cylinder(mine has the V6), the growing pains of the first year new updates that are normally buggy, and the price deal I got since the 2023's were available to order. A high horsepower/torque turbo 4 banger is NOT going to last as long as a non-turbo, with the exception of the diesel 4 cylinder option could hold together well. Sorry, that turbo on the gas motor is going to yeet itself sometime soon after the odometer goes over 100k. Take a look at the unreliability of all the GM 4 cylinder vehicles in the midsize cars/suvs/trucks to see what I'm talking about. And then let's address the buggy growing pains of 2023: many many complaints are about the touch screen failing AND the trucks have been getting bricked by the computer trying to receive a system update download that can shut the truck down completely or kill the battery requiring it to be towed in to the dealership. No thank you.

Whenever I'm driving my wife's 2023 Equinox, my knee catches the dial and turns it off auto onto on - I hope ditching this dial/button and putting it higher up in the screen because a permanent fixture.

I’m short and small. Too small to drive the sierra. I’m thinking about buying a Canyon but I’m not sure what’s up with the 2.7 liter engines in a truck. I’m my opinion, smaller trucks should have a V6 with V8 option but it’s sad to see V8 trucks becoming progressively obsolete. There’s going to be tons of 4 cylinders just sitting in the lots with dealerships giving them away. Also, ALL trucks should have aggressive factory tires not P tires. At least GMC got that right-yet the tires aren’t all that great-could be better.
@gordmonteath6090
@gordmonteath6090 Жыл бұрын
Natasha number of KZbin videos specifically on the 2.7 ltr turbo TFL TRUCKS actually got the head GM engineer who designed and built the 2.7 on and he literally had the engine apart to show the build. Its a very strong and well designed engine. Further this exact engine, has been in the full size Silverado and Sierra since 2019 so it has 5 years of experience and has no issues. I'm getting 24 Canyon
@OutMotorsports
@OutMotorsports Жыл бұрын
GM is super confident in this 2.7 and it does drive really well. They did a lot of work to make sure it would be durable enough for truck use, and to others' points, it's been used in Silverado and Sierra for a while now. Obviously there's only so much data so far but five years in, we'd know if the 2.7 was a total disaster and it doesn't seem to be. Re: tires. It's nice that GMC is doing the "truck of nowhere" thing with off-road capability. But for those of us who tow much, an all-terrain is the exact wrong tire to have given the big chunky tread blocks. So, sometimes a P tire is a better starting point (though upgrading to one with a higher load rating would be even better for towing).
