@@franchisefred4066 no one is forcing people to buy them with markups and some dealers still have waiting lists for purchasing at MSRP. Regardless, they'll hold their value just as well (if not better) than the previous generation R. If this is truly the last fully combustion engine R, a model with low miles and good maintenance would probably sell for quite a lot in another 20-30 years. Edit: I agree, for 80k, there are better cars. I don't like dealer markups either, but not all of them will be sold for 70+.

Congrats on the new FL5! I agree with 100% about the quality. That is the first thing you notice when driving this car. The build quality is definitely taken to another level on this one compared to the Fk8. They stepped it up a lot!

Hey Topher, one thing I used to do with my GTI was to put a sock inside out on the shift knob when I parked. Helped it from getting piping hot in the summer and better than touching the freezing knob in the winter. Congrats on the amazing new car!

I ended up pulling the trigger on a few years old STI instead of waiting for one of these to show up. I am tired of dealing with Toyota and Honda dealerships at this point wanting 25k over MSRP. I will enjoy the STI until the prices of these comes down to 40k. Great car, but I will have to wait.

Congrats on the CTR! Looks better than the FK8 and Honda says they fixed the overheating issues on track, so two steps in the right direction IMO. Surprised you wouldn't use the BRZ for track given it's lighter, NA and RWD. Either way, looking forward to seeing more content.

Hi… very nice car. I know you did a few reviews of the 2022 WRX Premium. You seemed to have enjoyed it a lot. I ended up buying one and I love it. Your reviews and my own test drives were the deciding factor in my buying one. Maybe you got your type R for a good price…. Most have serious dealer markups.. I paid sticker for my WRX. NO emergency brake on the R was an issue for me. I love your show… Especially with my headphones on.. Keep up the good work…

Tbh the FK8 markups didn't really cool down with time, especially with the supply issues that came during COVID. Even for the 2021s at the end of production, some dealers were asking $20K over with a straight face. But, like you mentioned, getting on lists from msrp dealers will eventually get you one for msrp if you're patient.

2019 was the best time to buy an FK8. My buddy shopped around the Seattle area and most places were about $3-5k over during that time. He was able to go to a dealer 2 hours away for MSRP, and pick it up same day in the color he wanted. As a major recession looms over us, I can only imagine 2023-24 will be better than current time to get into an FL5 brand new.

Like the FK8, plenty of dealers will be willing to sell for msrp, just maybe not the one closest to you. But I don't see the trend of many dealers trying to get markups on these cars ever coming to an end, especially with the EV era right around the corner.

Holy sheet Batman! This is the first actual owner vid I've seen...and I havent even seen one of these things in the wild yet. I cruised through my local Honda dealership this past weekend and didnt see one on the lot or showroom..but avoided the salesguys so I didnt ask if they even had one. How crazy is it to get the (arguably) best type R ever and the GR Corolla so close together? If I didnt know it's all coming to an end very soon I'd say were were living in the budget enthusiast golden age and be looking forward to future efforts. Guess I should just be thankful such cars still exist. Awesome choice man! I'm super jelly.. Edit- absolutely insane that MSRP is now considered a "great deal" when just umm..like 3 years ago or less the goal was a couple grand under? Dealerships are making windfall profits these days (the ones with stock that is) and it pains me to think MSRP is the new benchmark.🙈

Great to see it finally here! The new Type-R is amazing both in terms of design and performance! I think you should leave automatic rev-matching on. You can occasionally override it and do your own rev-matching. You still have your BRZ without automatic rev-matching, on which you can do your own throttle blips anytime you want, although understandably it could be better to do it on the Type-R due to seemingly better throttle response.
