We've got the Scorpio and notched a few k's already. It's what I would call Agricultural, it's a tractor. It rides like a ute on country roads but is still comfortable and quiet. It feels tough and reliable. It has the minimum tech, which means less to go wrong, and has a great stereo that's easy to use. If you're after a tough old rig without the cruiser price tag, I would definitely recommend. If you're a granny driver who needs a car to drive itself, buy a Honda.

I own Scorpio N Z8L Top ten Auto Diesel. Adrenox is a connect car feature that let's you do a host of stuff - Switch on, lock/unlock doors, open window etc. I have clocked 12k kms so far in 4 Months that I have owned this car. For context, my previous car was a MPV with 7 seat option and one that I have is a 8-seater (mid bench). The storage space is a big letdown, but having said that more than 90% of time you won't need the last row. It can be unscrewed or kept folded. Integrated roof rack is the best accessory to add. I had full load of 7-8 passengers during 2 occasions and didn't find any significant lag in the performance of the autobox. Also the driving on freeways and highways for longer duration is easy and comfortable due the excellent ride quality for a ladder-frame, the suspension set-up and seat padding. The car is already rated at 5 star for crash test as well as has better visibility overall. I always preferred to have a vehicle that keeps you alert than being overtly dependent on tech for lane assist or collision control as it makes drives complaisant and less alert. The sheet metal is thick and adequately stiffened as well as ride is perfectly balanced for it's size and dimensions.

Great vehicle for the money, I'd remove the 3rd row completely. Active safty is for people who can't drive. I've been driving for 50 plus years, including 35 years as a Paramedic. Didn't have active safty no problem.

Not a family man myself but can see the benifit of a 6 seater to a 7 seater. Most people i think would prefer a more comfortable 2nd row with two captains chairs, i think its more snazzy too. Mahindra should keep the 6 seat layout in their update and have the 7 seat as a no cost or low cost optin

Hopefully the next generation or facelift gets lane follow and radar cruise. Honestly for the price, it's a pretty good all-rounder and looks generally comfy with good sound deadening. I think this is a great car for those looking for a family car/daily, but yearning to explore a bit of 4WD life (some camping, towing the dirt bikes, trips and basic tracks etc).

Heard this is tried and trusted in India, hearing its quite rugged and cheap af to maintain. Dont think this is a luxury truck at all but could be something perfect for the outback as it appears to be the purpose its been built for. Notice the steel sidestep, lower power range and grunt and great fuel economy. I mean its 45k. Paul appears to be impressed with its off-road handling on the other video. Diff lock and 4WD worked brilliantly on that terrain. Farm truck vibes

Yes. This is there in our house but a white colour and we had an 2003 Scorpio before buying this particular one because we trusted it's reliability. The car is really good and munches miles silently and won't get to know it's a diesel unless you fill it up 😅. Dimension wise it is larger than Toyota fortuner and the Ford endeavour in India, and it turns heads here not joking and has huge road presence. Overall a very good SUV. But small niggles here and there but not to worry

Adrenox is Mahindras corporate Infotainment UI, which is brand new and used in their high end offerings like the XUV700 and Scorpio N (Top trips only), supposed to feel a lot plush, premium, intuitive and eye pleasing compared to the basic software offered in lower trims. however those lower trims does get Apple carplay and android auto just like this one. Bad thing that Australia doesn't get the 200hp turbo petrol Scorpio N which is a "beast".

This is cool and I really like that colour green. You can’t compare it to a Ford or the Isuzu cause they’re in different price ranges. Compare it to the LDV and you will appreciate just how brilliant and practical this car is. If I was on a budget and needed to sit my family of 6, this car would be the one I would buy. Safety features are annoying but I honestly find radar cruise control and auto braking annoying.

My wife and I were finally ready to buy a new car and now that some of the madness has ended with stock levels, we test drove most of the Mahindras competitors. We were especially keen on the Scorpio N and test drove it for about 30 mins. We were so happy that a car was coming to market without all the pseudo 'non'safety rubbish. We were let down by the handling (pretty rolly polly), the storage (only one bloody cup holder, tiny center console, glove box that was so low it's unbelievable and do note that even the reviewer had to open the doors to put the bottles in the door as they are 'almost' inaccessible with the door closed) and finally, although the quality overall is what you'd expect from an relatively inexpensive car, the seats were so uncomfortable, we both had sore backs just after the 30 minutes. In general, the quality of this car is pretty poor but it does have a charm to it and if it wasn't for the things mentioned, I'd have been happy with it. For $7k more, we ended up buying the Ssangyong Rexton Ultimate. It's a world apart and still $15k - $30k less than it's closest rivals. We pick up our new car this Friday coming so fingers crossed.

As with all new diesels, meeting emissions and mpg targets means very doughy response from these engines. First order of business is to get a remap, to switch the engine on. This being a 2.2 litre it should easily get 500nm and come on earlier and flatter. Nothing wrong with the Aisin box, probably the same one Toyota and many others use. I'd rather buy this than a Chinese thing.

Thanks Paul for your review. I did test drive today. Sadly i did not have a pleasant experience. After initial smooth drive, I felt i needed to put extra pressure on the accelerator when it started from the complete hault, e.g, at a cross section. At one trafgic light signal i felt it did not go beyond 20 km per hour even after pressing accelerator hard. Even the dealer did not know what it was. Has any one experienced any trouble during test drive. They had only Z8 model by the way. I might go for another test drive later on after few weeks. Thanks.

Mahindra, if you're listening, there are many of us who would like a 'stripped out' more work ready version of a car like this. The changes would include (in my opinion): - quality cloth seats - no sunroof - no infotainment screen - just a functional system with Bluetooth, good speakers and good fm/am radio. - no AEB or lane change. We need abs and traction control. That's all. - steel wheels - 5 seats with a rubber lined boot. It wouldn't have to be cheaper neccesarily, but reliable and reasonably priced dealer support is a must. Thanks 😊

It sounds like the Scorpio is a car that many would like to like, but fails disastrously in some critical areas like safety, quality, and practicality. That folding seat arrangement looks like an absolute nightmare to live with. Still, nothing seems insurmountable so maybe in an update, those issues can be addressed. Over my many years, the only vehicles I see regularly filled to seating capacity are buses: people-movers and those cars and/or wagons that have seating for more than 5 I rarely see fully-loaded. I think I've only ever seen a handful where the rearmost seat is in use, and yet in forums, many are decrying the lack of 7-seat capacity in a newly-released vehicle.

I think the kind of people who are looking at a New Scorpio are far more likely to be considering one as an option instead of a 2nd hand Prado than an $80k new Everest. Worth noting that you can draw a lot of similarities between a 10 year old Prado and a new top of the line Scorpio, they have similar power and torque (though the Scorpio is much faster), same towing capacity and a similar amount of safety tech with 10 year Prados rarely having radar Cruise or autonomous emergency braking either. The Scorpio has a less practical interior but it's a new SUV for old SUV money

I think Mahindra entered the SUV market too late here, the Australian launch was at a good time but selling only the pikup was a bad decision, having a midsize SUV from when it entered would've boosted sales.

I like that auto braking is missing. It can give false readings when you add 4WD extras. Many buyers would be fine to not have it, in fact, it’d be great if you could delete half that stuff and save money and maybe get your car sooner! We can all drive fine without it and if not, catch the bus!!

You probably need to learn what 4x4 enthusiasts say about Mahindra.... They're used by QLD Parks and WIldlife and in Australia's mines for a reason. Also judging build quality should be done on mechanicals too. Because underside these things are very solid and adequately rust protected. They're the world's biggest tractor manufacturer and have been around since 1947. I've had Subarus, Toyotas, Mercedes, Nissans.... they've all had cosmetic issues here or there.

@@G-Man01 I was actually considering a mahindra, as the mechanicals are good and I like the look but what let's this down is the cosmetic side of things, and it's ability to be legally used by most people who want to get away in their 4wd (500ish kg payload is absolutely garbage and one of the main reasons I crossed this off my list).

Awaiting the midlife update. Looks great although I'm not a fan of the rear styling or swing door but could live with it. Would also remove the rear seats and give myself extra space. But with Mahindra, it's all about functionality. The thing is going to go anywhere and do anything.
