This is a Motormouth couple car review of the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB compact electric crossover. The Mercedes Benz EQB 350 dual motor makes 288 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque. It has a 70.5 kWh battery with 356 km/221 miles of range and goes 0-100 in 6.2 seconds, 0-60 in 6 seconds.
In the US, there are two more Mercedes Benz EQB models, the 250+ which is FWD, it has 188 horsepower and 245 miles of range. The EQB 300 an AWD model has 225 horsepower and 232 miles of range.
The Mercedes Benz EQB gives you plenty of flexibility whether you have a small family who needs a 5-passenger vehicle or one that is a little larger and needs a 3rd row. The 3rd row will cost you an extra $1,300 CAD/$1,250 USD but it is small and best for little kids. Mercedes-Benz has carried over the interior from the GLB gas model with dual screens, a 10.25” digital driver display and a 10.25” touchscreen which is also controlled by the centre console trackpad.
The Mercedes Benz EQB looks a lot like the GLB, it’s hard to tell it’s an electric vehicle which may appeal to buyers who want to blend in with their EV. Instead of a grille, the EQB has a black panel and the wheels have blue accents. It comes standard with LED lighting which spans across the entire front panel and a lightbar across the rear. Other standard features include aluminum roof rails, available black and 19” wheels.
The Mercedes Benz EQB is missing a few features like ventilated front seats, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, only wired and heated rear seats.
The Mercedes BenzEQB comes with an 9.6 kW on-board charger. With a DC Fast charger with speeds up to 100 kW only you can charge from 10-80% in about 30 minutes. With a Level 2 charger 10-100% in 6.5 hours. Unfortunately, the charging speed is slow, but if you mostly charge at home, you will be fine, it will be more challenging on the road.
In Canada, the EQB 350 starts at $75,700 CAD. In the US, the Premium trim is $60,550 USD, Exclusive $61,800 USD and Pinnacle $64,350 USD.

I never knew there were so many road-trippers until ev's came out. Now everyone needs to be able to drive from Boston to LA without stopping apparently. Range anxiety isn't a thing for me, it's charging anxiety. If I can be confident the chargers will work, planning a trip based on my mileage is easy and fine. We aren't there yet with non-Tesla networks though. I think it will improve in time.

disagree. 350km is embarassing for a full tank on any suv ev or gas
@djd2819

@@varunaX Yeah - and that's in perfect weather. I'm a skier and ski day trips in the winter (for me) would put me at the limit of a fully charged range. That's a big nope for me. For those whose driving is strictly urban, 350 is more than plenty.

It’s not just about range, it’s about refueling/charging. First it’s all a waste of time, including fueling, second it’s expensive, that’s why I drive a 300 hp diesel coupe, it does 4 liters per 100 km at 140 kmh, and maximum 7 in the city, the equivalent gas engine does 8 and 13 respectively. I get 1200 kmh out of a tank and for a bit more as gas is more expensive in Europe, I’d get a third.
@Brian-jv8iy

Charging electric cars is expensive, quick charging a sensible car, eqe for example, often gets you two full tanks of fuel in a standard e class
@chrisdawahare6055
@chrisdawahare6055 Жыл бұрын
@@Brian-jv8iy 85% of EV drivers charge at home, which typically isn't expensive. For instance, I pay 10 cents per kWh which basically translates to $1 per gallon for EQB. I was spending $150 on gas per month; now I spend $25 more on my electric bill each month. It's only expensive if you rely on DCFC public charging which most EV drivers don't do.

That "don't get freaky" catchphrase from Zach makes perfect sense for him, for the target consumer for this, and for Mercedes. The 'halfway to full EV' aspects of door handles and same interior, fits for a ton of old upper middle class+ consumers. Beautifully done. For the record I'm the opposite, the freakier the better, but I appreciate the epic utility of the PriusV. For me, the first performance e-wagon priced below $100k will be my queen and replace our Tesla 3. Btw, pretty correct about the range issue as we go fully packed to the chalet once every two weeks, and that's it really worth our 500km range.

The ONLY Sport/Utility electric vehicle that excites me is the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, especially the Turbo S. This exciting vehicle definitely has the Sport (of SUV) part nailed and has proper utility as well. Its just too bad it starts at $150,000 and peaks at $256,000 CAD! It probably might be too much of stretch calling it an SUV for most people … but its the only practical Electric vehicle in my opinion that has head turning looks… all whilst ‘saving’ the planet… which I suppose is a good thing. Thanks for the video.

I think the current crop of EVs are essentially play toys for those who are well off. They just don't make sense to the mainstream public yet. Until battery composition and technology changes and improves, they remain an elitist form of transportation. Yes, you can get "cheap" EVs, but (in Canada) they are still in the $50-$60k range and are basically just $30k cars with a $30k battery, so certainly don't look and feel like their price. You'll never get that $30k back in savings over just buying a regular car. Honestly, Toyota has the best idea currently. Offers efficient regular vehicles and most have a hybrid option. Hybrids use half the fuel, are very reliable and most have an ROI of about 2 years, so they make sense. Use less fuel, remain affordable, actually make financial sense.

They probably don't have enough supply, so no need to lower the price. Having said that, in Canada this model should be below $70K. The range is not a big deal for many, you just might have to plug it in more frequently. At least you don't have to visit a gasoline station, but prep extra time for those longer trips.

The big difference for me is the Audi Q4 starts at $59k CAD, and that means it qualifies for the $5k iZEV federal EV rebate. The EQB 350 4matic at $75k CAD which means you don't get a dime off the price for it, and also the battery at 66.5 kWh usable is far less than the Q4 e-tron 77 kWh usable. I voted with my wallet and took delivery of a Q4 e-tron Technik a month ago, and while the EQB 350 was initially on the shortlist (ruled out the Model Y LR AWD due to shoddy build quality and not wanting to fund Elon Musk) but the Audi is far superior in value, more range & still being a nice car overall.

A fair amount of people don't really road trip, including us. I care even less about range after having an EV for a bit. That said this is pricey for what you get, Merc is probably gonna have to put out some great lease specials to move this bad boy. There should be a bunch of lightly used ones available for a great price in a couple of years if you're not in the market right now.

That’s why BEV are a good option for those that have access to a level 2 charger and primarily commute or hang out in their neighbourhood. The problem is not everyone lives such a boring life. Many go to the lake or hit the mountains or camp. For those individual BEV is not the solution.

I agree with @patrick7228. How many people take trips of 300km plus nowadays. The furthest I drive is 55km to work one way. This Mercedes is just a square box and does not appeal to me. It still looks normal compared to some new EV's. There are more choices for electric cars but they are not readily available. I have to order one, wait upwards of 3 years (Hyundai Ioniq 5) or less and pay the dealer markups. The days of going to a car lot and picking a car is not available. Who can afford $75,000 - $150,000 or more for an electric car? How long is the battery going to last compared to gas/diesel vehicle.

It kinda says a lot about Tesla that they just suddenly dropped the price when this released. How much is Tesla price gouging the public that they can drop the price about $20000 without changes to the car to make it cheaper to manufacture? Not only that from what I saw the interior is about the same quality as a 90’s Toyota….
@vancity2349

Its no price gouging if people pay, thats on them. Tesla is one of the few EV companies, that can afford to decrease prices and still make money. The other EV’s currently make little to no profit on there EV’s. Thats not a good business model…. Ford recently announced they will lose 3B in 2023 in the EV division….

I’d consider this used at a huge discount, because I actually like it. However, for the price Mercedes needs to have a bigger battery and more horsepower. I don’t think people are looking for “adequate” when they buy a luxury brand and the specs on this are just adequate. I’d like to see Volkswagen make an EV with a similar shape. But then they’d put in their dumb infotainment system, so forget about it. 😅

It's not like 6.2 0-60 is that impressive. The range is about 1/2 the gasoline car. Probably another half that on -20C It costs about 10K more than GLB 250 gas. Some cars are sold w/o power seats due to shortage of chips. Who knows what else is missing or will be unavailable when the warranty is out or even while under warranty. Definitively best to avoid

It is no charging stations at each gas station and the range sucks and you have be wealthy to own it.. this is a rich person toy.. it is sad due they talk about Ev saving our environment. But price them far out of the reach of normal people. And have not put the charging stations on every corner. EVs are here to stay and the legacy automakers are FINALLY on board… sooooo many better options than Tesla. The best point of this video is MB pricing is way off. MB never has been a “wow this is a great deal” brand, but this makes you feel cheated. When your $28K Ford Maverick truck has more options than your $65k Benz… we’ve got some problems lol.

For over $15K less on the road incentive in, you get access to the supercharger network, more power, more space, longer range, MUCH faster L3 charging…yup, I would live with that crappy interior. EQB is a massive fail in my books.
