Don't lose the suicide doors! Cant the front window a few degrees or use stronger glass. Bigger, round headlights. Roll down/pop-out passenger windows. Add a truer green and a deep purple as exterior colors with white roofs. Ease up the C-pillar. Bigger gas tank. V-6 is fine. Add a V-8 and diesel as options.

@@ProjectAlpha2023 Because they were thought of as unsafe. Easier to open because in conventional car doors, the air pressure keeps it closed. I personally like the suicide doors, but if they were able to be opened independently (without needing to open the front door first) they’d be better.

I would actually consider selling one of my FJ's for this concept if it made it in to production. As long as they keep the 4.0 six cylinder and don't go with a turbo 4. This is by far the best concept that has been presented to date. Toyota better take notice of Gonzales before another automaker does.

Agreed 4.0 will last 4ever. Turbos only get power when you rev it up. Not good for off roading. I'll take high torque early right away all day!

Really cool of you to feature an independent designer so thoroughly, he definitely put a lot of thought into it! These portfolio type projects rarely, if ever have an influence on a production vehicle however, so don't get too excited (Chip Fooses' Prowler is the only one I know of). The lil' FJ EV we saw is likely close to what we will get as it would have had to go through a full design process and be In-line with Toyota's design vision and package requirements. Personally I'll keep my '07 MT and maybe get the smaller BEV as the commuter/grocery getter. We love having an EV, so something with a little FJ flavor would be a bonus.

Love it!!! Definitely a upgrade but I hope they stay close and true to the original but I wouldnt mind the 4 doors and the removable top. Definitely will open doors for more new customers and customers that cult followers to Toyota’s reliability

Should've retained the suicide doors by simple swapping locations of the door handles to preserve the heritage and keep an unique look as others commented. Front gray grill as opposed to the identical rounded corners should be hex cornered in my opinion to complete the modern look. Man if Toyota just made this happen! Jesus christ!

"Suicide doors" in my opinion is a flawed design in the history of automotive industry. Whoever come up with this design needs to be forcefully consumed a lifetime of pineapple pizza. No more meat lovers. 😁 In order to open the rear door you have to open the front door first. But what if the front door malfunction? They don't open up. Then you're screwed. You're "dead" hence the nickname "suicide door" Not to mention it just looks awkward and ugly to see a door swing backward. But that's just me.. Not hatin' just sayin'

This concept is nice but I would love a fj that can steer tighter angles (like a corrola). A steer angle of at least 45degrees. I would love the new fj to be able to make full u-turn within 2 standard lanes.

It looks better than the original FJ Cruiser. Having lost the Landcruiser in the states this could be a valid attempt to replace that slot in the lineup. But only, if it has front and rear lockers.

Two points I would like to ask you. first do you think that the FJ should be a little wider like the Bronco 2) do you think the rake of the windscreen should be a little more towards the driver so it's not so straight up and down.

I think a lot of the aesthetic of the FJ and that class of vehicle in general is the rake of the windshield but it probably could hurt. And I think you probably wanna keep the vehicle narrow to fit on trails better while off-roading

Honestly, this concept does look good, but I wish they could bring back the classic look of the FJ land cruiser. That kind of boxy style. That would look so awesome. Hopefully we will see, what the new FJ looks like and how it performs. It will be nice to have four full doors, instead if suicide doors, for easy access and such.

It would be very awesome to see the FJ Cruiser become available again in the US. Through hear say...The reason why it will not be available to the US is because they [Toyota] want to keep the sales up for the 4Runner. As far as this concept version, it looks awesome. However, I really don't care for the fender styling. Other than that...again it would be nice.

Everytime Akio has been interviewed about rumors of an upcoming FJ he smiles and winks, so I definitely feel like they’ve got something up their sleeve…. there is a lot of pressure on efficiency regulation that they have to abide by, so I’m glad Toyota is one of the few companies still making combustion engines with manual transmissions - like the new GR design in the new GR corolla…. would love a manual GR FJ! (a guy can dream, right!) I am going to be honest and say I’m not a huge fan of this design - the four door is practical, but it has no place in the FJ historical lineage. The wheelbase is way too long, and the proportions aren’t right. I do like the modernized front end, and the removable top and doors are definitely in order though - that was the one thing the recent cruiser was lacking. The fenders would benefit going back to the original 40 style, flat faced with protruding boxed flares, in homage to the 40’s roots. This is probably our last shot at a true FJ, so I’m hoping for something truly bad ass before everything gets electrified.

I honestly don't see the point of a 4-door FJ if the 4Runner exists. How do you differentiate them: removable roof panels? Even with the "suicide doors" on the FJ the wheelbase was only marginally shorter (105 vs 109), regular doors just lengthen the wheelbase to make the FJ into a 4Runner. I doubt that the sales figures of the 2-door Wrangler / Bronco are high enough to justify a new shorter FJ.

It is so true, the 4Runner was already so similar to the FJ, so if people want a 4 door FJ, then just buy a 4Runner. And I remember hearing how 2 door wrangler and bronco sales only account for around 10% of sales. So a shortened version of the FJ isnt likely to go anywhere either. But it is still fun to look at concepts like this and dream at the very least 😂

As a current owner, I love this. I am hopeful some of these concepts make it into the new FJ. One thing, the suicide doors need to stay on the 2 door models. I love watching my friends and family try to figure out how to open the door. 😁

It would be nice to not have suicide doors. Honestly they are so impractical. Not sure how I feel about the back. I feel like it almost looks too much like a bronco from the side and like a defender from the back, but that’s just me. The front is spot on.

Needs a DOHC-4 fj-ified v8 that does not sacrifice power for reliability, or torque for speed. I own the 2007 and it's slow. keep the tuning so it can run on all gasoline types. that's key!!! I would like a transmissible power steering pump for versatile conversion from either a touch of a button or manual override capabilities. so it's not slow on concrete or too stiff on course rocky mountains or the mucky slushy mud. The more consistent the better for the fj community. the interior needs to be less tacky or just use less plastic while still keeping the weatherproofed factory design. needs to be more options for seats I like leather. Having more luxury than is in most modern cars is desirable but not affordable. This community is all about versatility and taking on the mountains. so I want a moon roof fj with the same interior design but just more refined, but it needs a truck bed if it's going to have a moon roof. needs to be simple and easy to have an off-road gauge and plane of balance built into the radio head. needs a lit surface to see buttons. it might need a giant screen as long as it's not tesla huge but fj approved for viewing and moving. needs to get rid of blind spots and have adaptable mirrors. just keep the design the same there is no reason to change it. I drew my version of an fj truck so if you like my comments ill make my channel for you guys the viewers.
