Went with the 6.8L with 4.30's in a 24 F250 XLT. Power is great, 15 to 16 mpg on 70 mph hwy. Very smooth shifting and power delivery. Live at 7200' of elevation and the F250 platform handles our 3 horse trailer much better than a F150 would.

I love my 2024 stx 6.8. I test drove the xlt 7.3 first. I did like a few of the upgraded options but loved the analog dash gauges and less frills options. Still has all the things I wanted. Steering was smoother and lighter by far over the 7.3 I test drove. I don’t know if it had issues or what but it was brand new.

If you look at Fords website to build a 24 super duty and look at the interior pictures as you build it, you can get an xlt with the 6.8 and the xlt premium package, get the power heated seats, center console, and the analog gauges. If I could buy one of these trucks, I'd get that exact setup in Antimatter Blue, 4.30 gears, spray in bedliner, gooseneck package, and the gray 20" wheels.

My 19’ 6.2 is set up almost identical to the 6.8. I’ve never hit 20 mpg on mine but got 18 on a nice day with flat land. Around 15.5-16 on average. Mines got the 6 speed though. Just breaking in with 90k on it. If these 2 motors stay issue free the way 6.2 has been then Fords got another big truck winner on its hands. I know the 6.2 had some early issues but got worked out like it sounds they did with these 2.

They have different transmissions. 6.8s have a regular 10 speed and 7.3s have the bigger heavy duty one shared with the 6.7 diesel. The biggest difference is the heavy duty will automatically shift into neutral when you're stopped with your foot on the brake pedal, preventing all the wear that would normally occur from being stopped in gear.

80psi empty will wear the centers out in the rear. Ford publishes one air pressure at max weight like you are hauling a 14k lb load. I have had 4 super duties over the last 25 years. 60 in the back 68 in the front, and I get 80k out of Firestone Transforce. That's cross rotating the front to the back and moving the back tires to the front every 10k. I ran a Firestone store for 5 yrs while in college and went through Firstones traing centers for service management. It works. Also, if I could run 55 empty in the rears without the pressure sensors barking at me, I would.

Former 2020 F250 XL wSTX 7.3/3.55 owner here. The 10R140 was horrible: violent shifts, loud shifts, dead pedal, slow shifts, skip shifts (design "feature"), torque converter apparently going out when traded it in. I test drove a 24 F250 7.3 XLT and 24 F250 6.8 XL w STX. Different transmissions (10R140 vs 10R80) same experience; harsh shifting... I don't know if that was indicative of future issues with these transmissions but after a horrible experience with my 10R140, I passed on both. It's unfortunate, since the 7.3 is such an awesome HD engine.

I have a 2024 F 350 STX XL with the 7.3 liter. I found that I get a bit better fuel economy on normal mode. My average MPG isn't as high but I.live in the Northeast so I'm dealing with a lot of hill climbing. As far as the few thousand dollars extra goes. It makes a big difference in interest when you finance monthly payments. As far as the transmission goes. The 7.3 liter used the same 10 speed that the 6.7 diesel uses, so it's a bit more robust than the transmission that's in the one with the 6.8 liter.

Ford has long had a tendency to keep their auto transmissions in the highest gear possible. You almost have to want it to kick down before it will do it. This goes back, at least, to the C6, maybe even the C4. For example, if i accelerate from lets say 55-70 using only the cruise control, on flat ground, my F150 wont drop out of 6th (its the 6 speed) however, i can do the exact same thing in the same spot with my wifes Tahoe, and the Tahoe will downshift, a lot, it really wants to wrap up. Ford and GM have always had very different philosophies regarding their transmissions shifting.

Guys, what axle ratio do you suggest if i get an F350 crew cab XL with offroad package? Intended use is infrequent landscape trailer pulling with maybe 5k or less load, light off road for hunting and fishing and slide in pop up camper weighing in with all gear at less than 3k patload and pulling a Lund 16 Alaskan...that would be my highest payload and towing requirement. I am thinking 4.30s as i am coming from an xlt Powerboost with tons of power but no payload. Thanks and happy new year.

The 6.8 with the 10R100 transmission will skip shift 1to3 and 3to5 when empty. The 10R140 will not skip shift, it hits every gear on the way up. I think the 10R100 is a much more appropriate setup for drivers who daily drive their pickups and tow occasionally. The 6.8 is flex fuel capable. Not sure why the 7.3 can't be flex fuel capable. Just like what kali said, it has something to do with low oil pressure when idling for long periods of time-mostly its fleet work trucks that are affected by this issue since they left on idle. A personal truck that spends most of its engine hours driving on the road and not idling, will very unlikely see that problem.

That's just me but I would get the XL Off Road in a 7.3 it would be a long bed option in a F-350 then if I wanted a Diesel I would get a used OBS style Ford so you don't have to worry about DEF. That's what I would do. don't mind having a key it does not bothering me at all I have no issues with having a key I don't complain about it because I have no problem or issues with having a physical key I could careless about that. Don't make anymore vids on this topic. We all know the 7.3L Godzilla wins. Its just too bad it has faulty lifters.

89 k on my personal 2020 truck and 162k on our 2021 hot shot truck. No lifter issues or any problems either motor. We are getting 2 more in 2026.
