Good review. I think you’re spot on. We bought our Tremor with a 7.3 in 2020. Have only 42,000 miles on it now first two years was a daily driver. Never had an issue yet. It’s been an absolutely fantastic. Towing small trailer to a much larger RV had no issues at all.

Good review for the most part when it comes to the difference in packages but not for fuel economy. The electronic mpg readout between trucks on a short drive can very dramatically even on the same brand. Only way to compare fuel economy is to drive all vehicles at the exact same time over at least 200 miles and hand calculate with gallons. I realize that is not feasible borrowing trucks from a dealer but reporting the digital display can be very misleading.
@CTECH-REVIEW15 күн бұрын
I totally agree, it's hard to compare MPG accurately unless you're driving them both in the same conditions! I have a 1400 mile road trip video coming soon to discuss hand calculated vs computer!

Lack of air dam under bumper and height difference will make at least 1 mpg difference, which means 4.30 only cost 1 mpg

Yeah the difference in mileage in this test has little to do with axle gearing. Meaty tires, lift, no air dam. These are the main factors.

Great video series!!! One point on rear axles: The 7.3 Tremor SHOULD have the same 11.6 as the other FX4, but the HO diesel Tremor has the Dana M300 SRW version (first year offering), which is heavier than the 11.6 Sterling. I tried to do as much research prior to getting my '23 7.3 and found that during the 23 model year, some goofy things happened, like some 7.3s got the 10.5 Sterling and some got 11.6 for seemingly no reason. If you found different info., please advise. Also, I'm trying to verify if the F350 7.3 cab/chassis w/ 4.30 gears get the SRW Dana M300 or the 11.6 Sterling. I found one cab/chassis on a lot 6 months ago, and it looked like a large version of a Dana M275, which would be the M300. Thanks!!! Again, great videos Sir!!

I have 2022 F-350 XLT crew cab long bed white. We call it The Beluga. At 65,000 miles I put on Michelin tires. I just drove 225 miles yesterday all highway doing 75-ish the whole way. A few times I boosted up over 85 and several times traffic slowed me below 70 for many miles. Trip meter mpg shows 16.8. When I hand calculate I find sometimes my actual mpg is off 3/4mpg and always lower than the lie-o-meter. But for a tare weight of roughly 7200 pounds it’s amazing to get 15+ at highway speeds. The 7.3 is a fabulous engine. We also have a Maverick that my wife regularly squeezes hand calculated 46-47mpg. You’d think we’d defer to that truck for a lot of our trips. Nope. Why? That Beluga is SO NICE to drive on the highway. I have hauled an honest 27,000 pounds (incl trailer) and that is 10k over trucks rating. I only hauled it 20 miles. It was a poorly loaded dump trailer with construction debris. It handled it like a beast. The 1-Ton frame is superior. Super Duty’s are awesome trucks. If I had to do it over again what would I change? I like the creature comforts of the Lariat. And my buddy has a Tremor 7.3 and he regularly around town gets yucky 13mpg. I don’t know…I would stick with the 7.3 and long bed which gets me a 48 gal tank. I might go up to a Lariat. But honestly the XLT has more in it than I’ll ever need. Mine has adjustable pedals. My wife is 5’ Nuthin and she was driving yesterday while I took a nap. I also would NEVER own a SuperDuty without the auto fold mirrors. Man what a beautiful feature. And my absolute favorite feature that I just don’t understand why it isn’t STANDARD from factory is the tailgate step. I use that step all the time. It’s such a tall truck and it makes getting in and out of the bed less of an athletic achievement. PS - super easy to do oil changes. Like as easy as any vehicle on earth.

Keep in mind I own 2 2024 f350 7.3, crew long single for ranch use , gas mileage was good compared to the 2021 6.7 diesels traded them for. Towing is awesome unless you’re over the road, obviously. Once they hit 15k miles and roughy 4900 towing according to the trailer page on dash, they improved by 30% easily, I’m assuming they broke in some. Awesome trucks and for my world it’s a no brained when comparing the 2.

Absolutely, if you need an 8 foot bed, the tremor won't work for you. My bed is just for misc. Smaller stuff. I am lucky to have several trailers for larger hauling chores.
@benjaminhale145412 күн бұрын
@BR549-2 i dont really follow. Why would someone pay so much for a truck and then have to haul a trailer everywhere they go. If towing is something you will do often why not get a 8 ft bed as they tow better. Tow a fifth wheel or gooseneck better too. I will never understand buying the biggest truck you can get and opting for the shortest bed. Seems crazy to me.
@tdotw7711 күн бұрын
@@benjaminhale1454Honestly it seems that Ford(and the others) are pushing these crew cab short bed trucks extremely hard, like really strongly! Look at the dealer lots, and around the other sale places, it's 85%+ ccsb trucks! I personally like extended cab long bed trucks(have a '00 f250 7.3 zf6, & had another eclb b4). I get the whole crew cab thing is more popular to many that hold & carry the typical 4 - 5 passenger 'family' for the camping trips while towing the camper, and the short bed is better for other things also(parking, turning radius, etc). I never carry 5 people around but I like having the back seat to keep tools dry & safe inside and occasionally I can seat a person back there (on one side at least) if necessary. Ford also limits what you can get on what truck cab style, you want a platinum, king ranch, limited, etc it's gonna be a crew cab short bed truck, that's it. The XL, XLT, etc are available in almost all cab styles though(rclb, ecsb, eclb, ccsb, cclb). Kinda sucks to not be able to get a eclb king ranch, or a regular cab tremor, etc. Part of this issue comes from customers picking crew cab trucks more than ext cab but Ford definitely pushes the ccsb trucks more than everything else, and it sucks IMO! Bring back the cab choices! A reg cab short bed 'tremor' would be really sweet too! It's all about the mighty dollars and which model\styles make better profits and limit the choices to lessen inventory stock.😠🤔🤷🏻♂️🛢️🚦🚧🚚🦺⛓️⚙️😄 ✊🏻🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸✊🏻

There’s a lot of truth in that. I also think to big corporations that buy hundreds of these per year in a fleet 10% in fuel savings can amount to a lot of money.
@kyleinman801716 күн бұрын
Agree. No one takes in to account idle time. These trucks all burn about the same at idle. Most guys just don’t bother turning off company trucks, leave them running to keep them hot/cold. That’s very hard to truck when looking at fuel economy when half the tank was burned at idle.
@j-rocsk15 күн бұрын
That’s absolutely retarded. When you drive 100,000's of miles it adds up extremely quickly. Run a road tractor at 3.5 vs. 3.7 MPG's…it’s thousands of dollars a year.

Fuel economy was a very high priority for us when we purchased our 3/4 ton p/u (in fact it’s been a high priority for every vehicle purchase I’ve made). I choose to not throw money out of the window unnecessarily just because “ I can afford it”. That’s why I searched for a really long time to find a late 4th gen RAM 2500, 6.7 Cummins, 4x4 , with 3.42s, and a manual G56 transmission . I won’t dare mention my mpgs because most people will accuse me of lying or not knowing how to hand calculate mileage. But I can tell you that my annual savings in fuel (California prices) are considerable. The way I see it, it’s only my money if it remains in my wallet.

I recently purchased the same Tremor F350 but, it came with the Lariat Ultimate Pkg and the SAP...you are absolutely correct on the ride difference have test driven the others in the Super Duty lineup. The Tremor just "feels" like it's built more rigid. I've only racked up 600 miles on mine and it gets anywhere from 11.6 to 12.2 but...that 7.3 really snorts and as a Boomer...it reminds me of the muscle cars we drove during the 70's and I just love it. Tire & Gears: Same Truck: Moved stock '24 F450 6.7HO Diesel, 4.30 gears with 19.5 commercial tires, moved to 22.5 Wheels & 36" Tires that are 5" taller(2.5" lift by tires), slightly wider tires (apx .7"), both tire sets 16 Ply heavy commercial. Calculations show final drive about 4.00 to 3.95 . Engine at 65 mph turns about 250-300 rpm less (2050 down to 1800). Using ForScan reset all variables to reset speedo for taller tires, speed accurate. Overall milage either same or decreased slightly... hard to tell, still breaking in. I had assumed it would slightly increase with lower final drive and lower RPM for Diesel. Milage has pretty much remained 15-16mpg, although engine still breaking in and conventional oil til next Oil Change.
@CTECH-REVIEW13 күн бұрын
That is some great information about how the gearing changes affect performance!
@joshuabaker57129 күн бұрын
The mileage is decreased due to rotating weight of bigger tires and wheel and lower RPM's. Just because the RPM's are lower doesn't mean they are in the "sweet spot" for fuel mileage. Changing gesr ratio in the axles can help get it back to where it was stock and help mileage as well. For instance a friend amd I both a have 2018 Ram 2500 6.4 hemi trucks and tow about the same 8k lbs trailer and jeep setup. Both on factory 285/60/20 AT tires. He changed axle gears to 4.88 from 3.73 amd gained fuel mileage and "power". His tows much nicer then mine with the factory 3.73 gears going up hills ect. I get around 8MPG amd he now gets about 12MPG.
@dougcjohn8 күн бұрын
@@joshuabaker5712 Thanks for the comments. Interesting results you got on stock tires… must put Rams engine more in its power band. I’ve considered that as well…. Although more toward the increased weight of larger tires & wheels. The F350 6.7 HO has a 3.31 or 3.55 and several Owners bump tire size up… reducing their final drive even further, Their milage continues to be decent. They use non-commercial tires compared to F450 OEM is heavy 16 ply Commercial tires. Increasing tire diameter moved from 4.30 to apx 4.00, still much stiffer than the F350 on 3.55 gears, although I haven’t looked if F350 has different 10sp Transmission gears and compare final drive ratios… I’m assuming my final drive is still stiffer than F350. The larger tires definitely weigh more and take more energy to get into motion. Shouldn’t take a lot more energy to keep them in motion but it may be more than I originally calculated. I’ll let it get a little more broke in to see where milage settles… moving to Full Synthetic on next oil change too. Power band of the 6.7 is within the 1800 rpm it runs at 65 Cruise. I’ve also been considering moving to non-commercial tires to lighten them up. Changing Axle Gears is an option but I’d prefer to keep RPM’s where they are currently.

Fuel mileage is definitely a considertion for anyone not rich. Do the math in the life of the truck figuring 250,000 miles at current gas prices you will spend almost the same in fuel as the trucks cost. Your looking at 60,000 to 100,000 depending on where you live in the country not even figuring if fuel increases which is likely. 10 % doesn't sound like much but thats 7,000 or more dollars. Choose the gear you desire and makes since for your situation. The 7.3 and 10 speed isnt lacking in power or gearing and either will do pretty well. I couldn't get a tremor for a reasonable price so bought a xl fx4 and built a better tremor 37s full bumper winch 37s armour suspension etc. If i could have got a good deal i would have gotten the 4.30s but even loaded close to max i cannot complain with how it pulls and runs. Also ford went back to manual hubs and only done the weird one hub thing for a short time all are back to normal.
