This is a deep dive video into optimizing the 2024 Highland Model 3 Performance. Here are some of the facts this video demonstrates.
1. The car is in fact called the "Highland" Model 3 by Tesla.
2. HP is well over 510 HP. It is closer to 615 HP for the US Model.
3. 0-60 mph in the US is closer to 2.7 seconds than 2.9 seconds.
4. The car can do a 10.75 @ 126+ mph 1/4 mile with a fully optimized battery.
5. The New car's 0-130 MPH is close to the old car's 60-130 MPH.
6. 18" 235 wide Efficiency All Season tires don't really slow the car down over the stock summer tires.
7. Efficiency at 60 mph can be almost as good as a Model 3 RWD on 18's if the new car uses the ultra efficient Hankook iON EVO AS tires on 18" wheels.

Terrific video and information! I've been waiting for this! Two questions: based on the dyno results, if you were to be asked what the HP of the car actually is, like a single number, what would you say given your results? Second, are the hanook wheels forged? Do they have performance tires that also EV based for better efficiency? And finally, how is the tire noise compared to stock? I'm wondering if the Tesla-specific tires have sound dampening that the Hanooks might not have. Are they pricey tires/wheels?
@LearningFast
@LearningFast 7 ай бұрын
The actual max HP of the car is 615 US HP(~627 metric HP). My wheels are not forged and they weigh about 22-23 lbs. 18 lb forged wheels might make the car even quicker. Hankook makes a summer version of the tire I have. Those iON EVO summer tires offer even more performance with slightly less efficiency. The 18” tires I have offer a much smoother ride and vastly superior noise suppression. They have the foam and it actually does work better than I thought it would.

@hazmatt81
@hazmatt81 7 ай бұрын
@@LearningFast I've heard that low rumble, but I thought I was trippin'. Oddly though, it was only on one freeway here in So Cal. As soon as I took the interchange it stopped. And my normal commute it doesn't do it. It almost sounded like it was a V8 with a deep low exhaust just cruising at 70mph or so. But I never found the V8 making that noise. That's funny. I've been trying to have it replicate, but good thing it was only on that 15 mile section of freeway. Great insight!

@OlavAlexanderMjelde 7 ай бұрын
Hello, technicallity, but Teslabjørns previous tests measured 3PH to 3.23 without rollout. The older models he measured .2 to .4 seconds slower without rollout. I know you tested yours quicker, but maybe you used a track with better traction, lighter wheels etc? He does his tests on the street, no prep surface. I also had a 2019 3P and even with forged rims I was unable to get it below 3.4~ 0-100 without rollout subtracted. Be aware these tests were done then in Norway, we dont typically have very warm weather. So you then need a lot of preheat in Norway to get full performance and I bet even tires would like warmer air. But the new one is quicker than the old one, if you just go out and drive, by 0.2 to 0.4 seconds in Europe. And it should be said I think most difference will be above 70-80 km/h, as the front motor can give more power below, where as the new rear motor can yield power up at higher ranges. So I think (just a theory) that the new will be at least 0.6 seconds quicker to about 200 km/h without rollout subtracted, maybe even a bit quicker. The car also feels quite different, mind you it's been a while since I drove the 2019 3P, but a friend of mine is still driving h is 2021 3P on KW V3 and forged wheels. I also had forged wheels and KW V3. But we feel the new car is more rwd biased and he also said it feels more "smooth" at limits of grip. We dont think the performance difference in Europe alone may be enough to think it's "insane", your USA car is quicker. That is not a doubt. But what we mostly thought was missing in the old 3P was the suspension (it was very crashy/bumpy) and noise insultation. Now Tesla has fixed both those, and even more things. So the car is way better than before, even though the EU accelleration is not night and day better (but it is some better, as measured by Teslabjørn).

If you drive 20-30mph nonstop, you’ll get over 450 miles range …. Technically speaking, the best thing you can do for range/ efficiency is just drive slower 😂 Also if you factor in HP per $ , best thing is to buy a used model 3 performance below that $25k threshold to get $4k used ev rebate. Some utilities will also give an additional $4k cash back rebate (like SDG&E) so that’s a $8k rebate for a used model 3 performance making it 25k-4k-4k = $17k. Thats 1/3 the cost of a new one, for something kind of similar. You can probably get a used plaid with no rebates for 50k. And a plaid would absolutely demolish the new M3P in speed and range. It’s the most genius way to get a Tesla. Get a used one.
