One use case I would add is if your city has a nasty pothole problem, these machines are a great way to deal with that.

The tall height is good for seeing and being seen in traffic, instead of a low sport bike.

Thanks for that perfect explanation, for the Drz400, is it possible to low the seat tell 30in?

These seem more versatile than the street bikes you mentioned, not less. Those have longer legs but these bikes will do a variety of things whereas those bikes are better on open road only I would think.

I have a 24 with 800 miles on it. Weather got cold here and noticed coolant light and check engine light stay on a few seconds after bike has started and other lights have gone off... is this normal? Coolant tank is full

You said street bikes like Z500 and Ninja 500 do more, but as a general purpose bike, a supermoto will do much more I think. SM will handle off road with just a simple tire change, or you can make it a full on dual sport with a full wheel change. Can you do that with dedicated street bikes?
@PeterLoweOne27 күн бұрын
I can't argue with your logic, but my argument would be that without making any mods to the bikes, the Z500 and Ninja 500 probably have a broader appeal as they're more suited to a variety of on-road riding than the SM. Not saying the SM can't be an absolute blast. SM's are awesome at what they do.

@@PeterLoweOne Well I'd say about the only thing a supermoto can't do well is highway. But it CAN do it. You can do 70 for an hour without a problem with the KLX and a DRZ would probably handle 80 mph for long stretches. And they can go off road. The Z500 and Ninja would dust these bikes on a straight highway, but I watch vids of Drz's chasing down and passing the biggest sport bikes in the canyon twisties. Naked bikes and sport bikes overall may be better for certain types of street riding, I agree, but there's a reason supermotos are so popular in Southeast Asian countries like Sri Lanka and the Phillipines - they take a road beating and handle dirt roads no problem. Versatile. In fact, take a look at the Kawasaki D-Tracker from 2008. Google it. It's a 250cc version of the KLX300SM which as been sold in Asia for decades. Nearly identical. There's a reason these haven't changed much for so long. Btw, I enjoy your bike reviews, I've watched a bunch of them and you do a great job. I almost bought a Z125 based on your review alone!

How is it on the highways?
@guderian77955 ай бұрын
I have a 2023 KLX300SM and added a windscreen and hand guards which made highway riding tolerable. The biggest downside of highway riding is the fuel range. 2 gallons of gas does not get you far so you have to plan your trips carefully and/or carry a fuel bottle. I carried a 2L Fuel Friend. My longest ride was a 4 day road trip from Edmonton, Hinton, Grande Cache, Grande Prairie then back to Edmonton. There is a lot of vibration after 5-6 hour of riding that exhausted me on day 4 (458km). I am going to upgrade to a Versys X300 next year.

@@guderian7795Hi! Can you tell me what the top speed of the 300sm is and what is its comfortable cruising speed on the highway?
@guderian77952 ай бұрын
@@MRUNDISPUTEDCHAMPION The KLX is very comfortable between 110-120kph and will max out at 140kph. I have had mine up to 140 kph once and it did not feel stable past 135kph so I don't go there.
