I've seen these around me for around $8500 new. That in and of itself is why this is rocketing up the list to be my next bike. I was all but settled on the Ninja 1000sx but it's almost twice the price (depending) and even though it's not really in the same class I doubt it's twice the bike. I've already found hard mount bags by sw-motech and a ton of other aftermarket parts so I know I could make this a sport tourer...lite. That colorway looks killer and It just looks like a blast to ride, all for under $10k out the door, thats a hard bargain to beat.

I actually did a comparison between this bike and the Ninja 1000 SX talking about a lot of the same things. The Ninja 1000 SX is one of my favourite bikes, but the Z900 is definitely a great alternative to save some money.
@ninji52262 ай бұрын
@@PeterLoweOne I seen that review, another good one but at the time the Z wasn't on my radar due to the lack of side bags but I found a solution to that. Like those that buy adv bikes with lofty dreams of crossing a mountain range but never leave pavement I doubt I'll be doing the kind of touring the SX would be good for and justify that price so, the Z it is. As a bonus the wife is happy I'm now obsessed with a much cheaper bike so thats a win. Keep up the great work!

Commented previously on the Z, but here goes again. Have a '22 all black(wheels included) with twilight blue cowling Z900. Have about 10k miles on it and never had one problem. Handles great, stops great(Nissin calipers), and goes like stink. The one and only complaint were the oem tires. Easily replaced. Build quality is superb - paint, fit and overall finish. Welds on frame are beautiful. Have taken it on numerous 1k mile rides. Added a slick H&B Sportrack- quick detatch with turn of a key. Put a 2 gal. Rotopax on top and put a 40 liter bag on that. Bang it down a gear to pass and the wonderful 4 banger definitely gets with the program. All in all will be the last of my bikes I'll sell. BTW, as a test, left it in 5th gear at a stop sign and took off in 5th without freaking out. I started laughing. This Inline 4 has gobs of power everywhere.

I have Yamaha 1300 cruiser do you think this good step up if i want get into a sport bike.
@PeterLoweOne9 ай бұрын
Yeah. The Z900 is a very manageable sport bike for an experienced rider. I would keep the traction control on level 1 at least, to help you keep the front wheel on the ground, and you also have the option of running it in low power mode as you get used to it, but I'd imagine that you get comfortable with it pretty quickly. I have the Z900RS SE which is the same powertrain with a different tune. It's awesome!
@japfourme3818 ай бұрын
I think these days the reason for less Cylinders is to make a more affordable machine, the newer four cylinder superbikes etc, tend to be horrendously priced, not affordable for Joe Public, so to get round this they drop one or two Cylinders, which means they can produce newer machines at a lower price. There are a few exceptions to this, and the Z900 is one of them!!
@PeterLoweOne8 ай бұрын
Emissions is another reason. The way they measure emissions, a 4 cylinder 900 cc bike does MUCH worse than a 2 cylinder 900 cc bike. That's the biggest reason that we don't see many 4 cylinders anymore, and why they are likely to be a dying breed.

Hi, is Z900 good for No experience beginners like me?
@PeterLoweOne8 ай бұрын
I'd start with something a little smaller. It will be less expensive to buy, less expensive to insure, and you'll probably learn to be a better rider so when you do get a bike like this, you can really enjoy it. You want to go out and have fun with a new motorcycle, not be exceptionally careful all the time. Adding skill will allow you to relax and enjoy it, and it's much easier to add skill on a lower powered bike, in my opinion.

I picked it as my first-ever bike. In the beginning, I ran it on the rain mode to get used to it, which is like 60% of engine power and full traction control. Now I use the road mode, and I don't feel that it is too powerful (I feel it liniar), but it depends on how the rider rides it. So it has a lot of power if you need it.

@PeterLoweOne9 ай бұрын
I would have to check the VIN but I would assume Japan? I will say that the idea of people worrying which country the assembly plant is in, is a dated concept. Modern manufacturing allows worldwide standards to be very high, so I wouldn't let country of manufacture influence your decision in 2024 in the same way that it may have in 1994.

i read in a ninja1000 forum that the z900 and the n1k/z1k engine is the same, with the z900's a lower displacement version of the 1043 one real or no?

The bore and stroke of the Z900 is: 73.4mm x 56mm The bore and stroke of the Ninja is: 77 mm X 56mm The compression ratio of each is 11.8:1 (Z900RS has a lower compression ratio of 10.8:1) Basically what I'm saying is, that's true. I don't know the specifics of what may be different in each engine as the Z900 and Z900RS do have some different components, (so the Ninja may have other component differences) but this was one of the reasons that I bought the Z900RS SE instead of the Ninja 1000SX. They're actually MORE similar than people think. I actually have better front brakes, and better rear shock than the Ninja, but the Ninja has a number of technology advantages. The insurance companies in my area see these bikes as very different bikes with the Z900 and Z900RS not ending up on a restricted list that places the Ninja in a much more expensive price class.
