Looking forward to this. I cant drive gas anymore having gone ev 4 years ago. Love the instant torque, the silence, and the better weight distribution...oh and charging at home and saving more and more money as gas prices get crazier. I also now gag when i smell gasoline engines. Never saw that coming but really hate the smell now. The problem was i needed more cargo space so this or the ex90 will probably fit my needs.

There is a reason people like my neighbor have a brand new Model X but refuse to sell their 2022 Suburban. EVs are not practical for everyone, nonetheless the next 5-7 years will really push innovation by getting more mileage, better designs and more options. The EV train has left the station.

The EV9 is just what I've been looking for truck/SUV, EV, AWD, and supposedly sub $70K CAD?? Here in Canada there were only 500 EV9 reservations but they were snapped up before I even knew of the existence of the EV9! I was going to go with the Ionic 5 but wanted an EV truck that wasn't priced ridiculously ($100K+ ?!?!) but the Silverado EV truck isn't out until sometime in 2024. For any of EV it seems it's a game of race to get a reservation or buy it as soon as you see it often with thousands of dollars options tacked on.

Serious question. The lowest trim has estimated mileage range of ~230 miles. Being a family SUV, I expect to drive car on a long road trip, and maybe to places that are not city, like going snowboarding or hiking or the beach. On average, those places are ~200 miles away from where I live. How do I expect to get to my destination, do my thing, and drive back home without having to search around the city for a charger and wait for 30-45 minutes to get enough battery before I can resume my trip? I understand the use of small electric cars for city commute driving. But this won't be that car.

A few things. 1. You have to consider the weight of this car. A battery power 3 seat SUV is gonna have a long wheel base and just be heavy. 2. Which brings in cost. One solution to this is to load the car up with a bigger battery. You do two things when you do this. First obviously you drive up the cost. I believe GM did this with their EV trucks. They just basically put the Hummer EV battery. The EV trucks on the market have enormous price tags even at the lowest trims. The second thing you do is you threaten the car driving even more weighty, or at least have to do more engineering to ensure it doesnt feel this way too much which is going to be a turn off for most casual SUV owners. 3. This is a Korean car so we can be sure even without its commercial release that it will charge incredibly quickly with DC fast charging. Charging infrastructe still sucks but in the event that you have to use it and come across the right station this should be a big help for situations you mention. 4. Ultimately, you're into it or you're not. But you can't knock Kia for what they've done so far and for a first try at something few of the mainline manufacturers have yet to accomplish this is pretty good. I get that EVs still aren't widely supported by infrastructure but with cars like this for the value they provide, maybe adopting some of the old spirit of EVs isnt a bad thing. For a trip like you say, it may require a little planning but is a little planning that bad if you get to do it in comfort? I mean this is WAY better then the days the first EV adopters were mapping trips in little Leafs. Now you map your trips in a glorious 3 row cabin. 5. It does looke like the RWD Long range will still be cheaper than the standard AWD. That should get you 300 miles in good conditions AND still is estimated to miles cheaper then many entry levels in the Truck/SUV EV market. I'd say KIA negotiated the design challenges while keeping everything as low cost as possible about as good as any manufacturer we have seen yet all while staying committed to a traditional SUV body. Not sure what more could have been done.
@blakestrother5122
@blakestrother5122 8 ай бұрын
One last thing of note on this. Kia staying with the trad. SUV body is HUGE! While I appreciated your question. Here's the deal, the amazing part of this car is actual adults can ride with you. There are a mix of SUVs and crossovers on the market in the EV space that world's more expensive then this car will be with less seating and with incredibly low ceilings. If your passenger's can't fit comfortably with you, then they are going approximiately 0 miles with you regardless of range lol. I was astounded by how this was a 3 row vehicle and looks like it can be used as a 3 row vehicle. It's quite impressive!

@@blakestrother5122 Thanks for your detailed response. My question is serious and practical because I'm genuinely interested in this EV9. But the range is what worries me in real life practicality. Very cool and modern without trying to scream EV that ends up looking like some Star Trek alien spaceship lol

It's quite interesting how electric companies across the United States currently struggle to meet the demand for efficiently and effectively charging all these vehicles. We already have cars powered by water. They're hydrogen cars. They're a less efficient form of fuel than just going straight to electric since you have to split the water in the first place to get the hydrogen from it, and that consumes a lot of power.

@HITTHEHAZARD Continue to choose gas, eventually, there will be nothing. Even if you're someone who chooses not to believe in global warming/climate change, fossil fuels are a finite resource and will run out. As for the price of EV's being higher than ICE vehicles, think of it like this. If when you purchased your ICE vehicle you could pay for all the oil changes, regular maintenance, and the difference in cost between gasoline and electricity when you purchased it, the cost would be about the same if not more than the EV.

@@09SMHSNo they never will be, and that’s the lie that EV companies like Tesla pulled over gullible idiot’s eyes. They are far from sustainable on a massive scale, and they are expensive to build (mining). So, no.

Their press release made it sound like some threat to ICE cars because the base price is 55k. That's the price for a fully loaded top of the line telluride or palisade! So yeah a 20k difference for the top of the line EV9. Poor math people will fall for anything since you are not likely to see 20k in gas savings by the time you turn it in for a new one.

real issue with EVs however futuristic and environment friendly they maybe the re-sale values absolutely tank. lot of teslas have halved in price which were sold 2 years back. If you buy an EV and dont happen to like its a big risk.

The pathetic front trunk and rear under floor storage is perplexing to me. If Tesla can get a big frunk and rear under floor storage in something as small as a model Y, then how is KIA so far behind by comparison?

"One thing I didn't like about the telluride was its old powertrain" Yet the motors are stout and usually never have any issues and plenty of power. These newer 22-24 models poor QC and just horrible

Worried about complexity and weight in an EV? Isn't that what an EV is?

Is it just me who dont trust evs. What is the battery holding capacity after 10 years? The battery cars has more net carbon footprint than ICE cars
