After a year or two on the market, I finally got to experience the new Lexus RX here in 500h F-Sport Performance in the best color ever: Copper Crest. This tester came in at $73,050 and serves as the flagship of the RX lineup. But is it the best RX? Well, I would hand that personally to the RX 450H+ and the 350H as those are what the RX is meant to be: efficient, comfortable, plush cruisers. This is a new flavor. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🏁 @Alllcarnews Spec Sheet:
-2.4L Turbo Inline 4
-Twin Motor hybrid system with permanent rear motor
-6-speed auto (Front wheels only)
-Direct 4 AWD
-366HP and 406 lb-ft of torque Combined
-4,751lbs Curb Weight
-27 mpg city | 28 highway | 27 combined
-0-60 MPH in 5.5 seconds
-Bridgestone Alenza Sport A/S235/50R-21 101V M+S 🏁 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Highs:
+Driven in not sport mode, the ride is supremely comfortable and the electic motors & turbo engine offer torquey off the line acceleration; perfect for daily cruising.
+The materials are high quality, especially in F-Sport guise.
+Lexus Safety 3.0 may be one of the best assistance suites on the market. Some top tier adaptive cruise, and proactive safety assist aids with regen braking .
Lows:
-The handling is well, ok. Lexus tried their best with rear wheel steering (fantastic btw), adaptive dampers, sport brakes, steering and the sort. But the RX is inherently not a sporty chassis. There is body roll, the brake pedal still feels a bit mushy, and the massive tires let some bumps into the cabin.
-The price is… oh well, scary. If you truly want a performance crossover, go for the germans. If you want a fantastic RX with f sport looks, step down to the hybrid.
-The engine sometimes behaved odd in stop/go traffic, sounding like it was misfiring.
Verdict: It’s a diamond in the rough. I would love to see a GEN2 F-Sport Performance with more oomf and.. performance. But all around it still a great SUV, just it would be even better in another trim.
7.5/10

Lexus really done well and there is a reason why Lexus is rated number one in customer satisfaction of all the brands. Beautiful color especially when the sun reflects off it.

This thing looks rather exquisite besides the still-weird-to-me wannabe coupe rear. Great that they dropped the old CVT for the automatic. Also, did a good job with the engine, could still use a V6, but it’s a lot faster (could be faster). The suspension, as any Lexus, comfortable. But not close enough to its competitors with air suspension. Don’t get why they insist on not offering it. Interior isn’t exciting tho, at all. For me it’s kind weird. Really exaggerated infotainment. Lexus line up has always confused me… is it a competitor to the XC60 or the XC90?

Lexus will always confuse because they don’t know what they’re doing 😂. They’re just not able to compete yet they waste resources failing miserably at doing so

Not even close. Good color on a truly mediocre vehicle😂 In every single way it falls way behind the competition: the exterior looks universally ugly (styling is only subjective if it does so many other things well, which it doesn’t), the interior looks outdated, cheap materials, ancient tech, useless gimmicks, no features, cramped back seats, tiny trunk, pathetic powertrains, pathetic performance, pathetic handling, doesn’t ride better than the competition, not as refined as the competition, and again its way overpriced. Overall value is pathetic. You just can’t give credit where it’s due because you’ll be schooled by the fact that the competition does the same thing, only better. F stands for Failure not F Sport. The L badge stands for lackluster, not luxury.

Fantastic color for starters and it is simply NOT a mediocre vehicle at all. That is insane to say. 1) Styling is subjective. I think it looks rather handsome and sleek. 2)The interior is not dated other than the what I would say is an under used digital cluster (I know they have better on offer) 3)materials are not cheap. Mercedes has worse interior plastics than this 4)tech isn't even close to being ancient. HUD tech is top tier as is the safety system 3.0 may now be an industry standard it is THAT good. did you even watch the review? 5) Since when were the spacious back seats cramped? And the pretty large trunk?? Have you been in a new RX? 6)Performance is an issue here and they did do A LOT to make it live up to the F -Sport performance name, but inherently the RX is a comfy efficient cruiser 7)Pathetic powertrains? I don't think so. The new Direct 4 AWD system is pretty state of the art and is a new Lexus signature driving experience. I like it for what it is. 8)It is very expensive but you pay that upfront for long term resale value, quality, reliability and brand/model desirability which is HIGH.

@@Allcarnews 1. Compared to a bz4x sure the RX looks great. But if you took an , 99.99% chance it looks better than the RX. 2. Taking an interior filled with injection molded plastics and sticking a Lexus logo on it doesn’t automatically make it more luxurious or better quality. Besides what Lexus RX offers a leather dashboard, leather doors, leather airbag cover, lots of metal trim, lots of wood trim? None of them 😆. Put the interior this way: If you compared it to a qx60, gv80, x5, q7, aviator, nautilus, MDX, telluride sx prestige, palisade calligraphy, cx90, grand Cherokee summit reserve, the RX simply doesn’t stand any chance 3. even though there is a 12.3in Mid from Lexus, it’s still not as good as what you get from Audi bmw Mercedes Hyundai Kia GM etc. Plus some brands are starting to add CarPlay maps to the gauge cluster. I will give you that the 14in screen is nice, but the infotainment still isn’t as advanced as the competition from Hyundai Kia bmw Audi Mercedes Lincoln or GM. 5. 5. I sat in an RX and I sat in the outgoing nautilus and the nautilus immediately felt far more spacious. In terms of rear legroom especially, the RX has 37.4 in of space vs 39 in the old nautilus and over 40 in the new one. Plus the trunks still small vs other rivals including some smaller compacts. The new nautilus especially has 36 cubic feet. For comparison the new nautilus has the same size trunk as a rav4. The trunk size in the RX matches some subcompact crossovers like a Kia Seltos. 6. Sure the RX is comfortable on the road, but unfortunately so is literally every other luxury crossover. It’s not like the RX rides on a new level of comfort while everyone else rides as stiff as a ford focus RS. Plus the air suspension offerings like the MDX aviator x5 etc all offer more polished rides. So the RX doesn’t have the ride comfort 7. Pathetic powertrains? Yeah they are pathetic. I will give you that 4 powertrain choices are nice to have, but unfortunately none of them are impressive. The base RX350 is as slow as a base rav4. As for the 350h, idk why anyone would even bother with that because who in their right mind buys a luxury car for fuel economy? You don’t see x5, MDX type S, gv80, or Durango SRT owners whining about low mpg because it doesn’t matter. If you want the ultimate luxury of fuel economy, there’s a Prius for you. The 450h+ is also way overpriced, yet it only gets 300hp and 0-60 in 6.3 seconds. That performance matches the base qx60 or v6 xt6, yet it starts at over $70K, so about $15-20K more than those alternatives, yet the RX has a rav4 4 cylinder, a CVT, a less capable AWD and no 3rd row. The 500h isn’t really a marvel. Because we’ve had turbo hybrids with regular automatics from BMW, Audi, and Volvo for a long time. The Direct4 rear motor isn’t state of the art, especially considering that the xc60 PHEV and xc90 PHEV offer a more powerful 150hp rear motor. And also they offer significantly more power and significantly better performance while simultaneously costing the same if not less while being just as efficient as the 500h.
