It makes me happy to hear that you guys like this car, too. After two years and 42,000 miles on my ‘23 Turbo Premium Plus, I’m still in love with it. I like the heavier steering of my ‘23, and I’m curious how the new calibration of the updated models feels. My favorite part about it is that sometimes I forget that I’m driving a crossover; it’s sporty, and giving it paddle shifters with a sport mode and a fun chassis sets it apart from other boring transportation appliances. I just put new spark plugs in her during my 40,000-mile oil change last month (her eighth oil change) and she runs just as smooth as she did on day one! If anyone else reading this has the Turbo, make sure to follow the startup and shutdown procedure in the handbook: upon a cold start, let the rpms settle down before putting it in-gear (takes about 20 seconds), and before shutting the engine off after a long drive, let the engine run for 30 seconds before shut down (this is a good time to gather your things like your wallet, put your sunglasses away, have a sip of water, get situated, etc.).

We bought a CX-50 last week, although ours was the “preferred” trim level (second lowest). I feel that the lower trims is where the CX-50 really stands out from the competition. AWD was a requirement for us as it’s the easiest way to comply with Colorado’s traction law, but a similarly priced CR-V gives you steel wheels, bare minimum safety features, plus a CVT. The RAV felt outdated and doesn’t have wireless CarPlay, no keyless entry, and most importantly for us, no automatic climate control. We had company cars for years, and the CX-50 was the perfect escape from the mundane competition.

Something I've never seen mentioned for taller people (6'2) that like to sit up higher: At a high seating position, the hood catches the reflection of cars in front of you and because the metal seems a little cheaper, it vibrates the reflection in your peripherals. It's annoying to the point that I had to lower the seat to eliminate the hood glare and of course I never noticed this on the test drive. Also the plastic casing on the gauge cluster somehow is pointed at an angle to where it reflects the sky on the top portion of the clear plastic, again all remedied by adjusting my seating position but it felt like both weird problems to be dealing with to begin with. Outside of that, I love the car. This is my first brand new car and it's the perfect amount of tech. The dial set up for infotainment works so good with Apple Car Play and I didn't think I'd appreciate wireless apple car play as much as I do, which the lower CX5 trim models didn't have. Every time I get in the car and start driving, it feels like I'm in a premium vehicle. The layout of everything just looks and feels right.

Have to respectively disagree. The delta on a three year lease between turbo and non turbo was almost $120 per month. $4500 plus over three years. This car will be almost exclusively suburban driven. @@nathanielross8232 Sure. Many of these options are personal preference and or subjective. Personally I enjoy the extra boost of torque for city driving. The cost difference seems about right. Keeping it because I love everything else about it, and I'm sure I'll get used to it like a person get's used to being in a boat or using VR. Also seems to be a problem not experienced by most, so most passengers should be alright. @@bradcomis1066 The only reason I added that second part was because when people post this complaint, the common response is "maybe you're just not used to sportier suspension," which is definitely not true in my case. We had a RAV4 rental for a week in Yellowstone. I have to say that it was easy to drive and not as floaty/lack-of-feel as I was expecting. I normally drive a Mazda3. The main thing I didn’t like about the RAV4 was the CVT. For that reason, our next car will probably be another Mazda or whatever is out there with a normal transmission.

My parents were shopping the Honda CR-V as a replacement for their daily Ford Fusion runabout. I suggested they check out the CX-50, especially since Mazda tweaked the ride this year. They actually took my advice to check out Mazda, which originally wasn't really on their radar. Then they bought a CX-5. An aged car at the end of its lifecycle. They drove both, but just liked the ride and "feel" of the CX-5 more. We live in the rust belt too (MI) so I'm thinking the beam axle might have played a part in the CX-50 taking second place to the CX-5. I checked out their new ride recently and for an older vehicle/platform, it is still extremely impressive, especially with the turbo engine.

These overviews are so intelligent and immensely helpful. I'm curious why when talking about competition and choices in this market, a car like the Subaru Forester isn't mentioned in the same breath as the CR-V or the Tiguan or the Rav4. Not a complaint, just curious.

As much as i love mazda, their handling of the crack prone 2.5 turbo engines ( search mazda 2.5 turbo TSB) and people getting screwed when their whole engines had to be replaced, alot of times post warranty time but prior of hitting anything close to 100k+ miles , makes ne hesitant of longterm reliability of that engine, even with the revised parts.
@sablemonster5 ай бұрын
The issue with the 2.5 turbo was a simple problem of faulty valve seals d/t supply chain shortages that mazda has been replacing under warranty. Mine was replaced at 50,000 ml, and my engine hasn't had any issues since. My CX-30 has been bulletproof otherwise.

Thanks, for your video and the updated review. I'm also glad that you basically like it and the improvements. But overall, I still prefer the CX-5 Signature, like the one I drive, over the CX-50. Own a 2023. Steering wasn't a complaint of mine at all. My front suspension feels like it bottoms out too easily on the street. My biggest complaint is the throttle at low speeds. It becomes very jerky when letting off the petal or when its down shifting. This can make driving in traffic very annoying over long durations. Yes, the Carplay not connecting all the time can be annoying but it's gotten better over time. I also agree that brakes need a little bit more bite as I feel myself have to hit the brakes harder at later stages because it's not slowing the car down fast enough.

3:37 Looks like they changed the design of the coolant filler/cap housing, the black plastic piece at the bottom right of the engine cover with the radiator hose coming out of it. That blasted thing gave way at the seams on my 2018 turbo 6 and luckily it was just a few days before I went to change my spark plugs at 40k miles. I noticed the smell but nothing looked off until I took the cover off I found the green coolant sprayed all over the place. Always check for leaks under all the plastic bits any time you have your hood open for oil changes, etc.

My wife chose a top of the line turbo just before the 2024s came out. I like the old steering and braking, and love the power, but I don’t like the ride quality. Can owners of the 2023 switch the shocks to the ones on the 2024 or are they not compatible? Would it make a noticeable difference? Second, I don’t like the 20 inch wheels, but we had to get them to get a heated steering wheel, which the wife insisted on. I would like to switch to the factory 18 inch wheels with a nice all weather Michelin tire with a severe snow rating, but Mazda says I shouldn’t do it. Why not? Gas mileage sucks; lucky if I get 25 mpg on the highway and when I towed just 1000 lbs, I was getting 14 mpg. I don’t like the entertainment system; too hard to change radio bands and stations. I don’t like that the touch capacity of the screen is limited to using Apple CarPlay. Seats are hard, but I got used to them and an extra pad helps. Unlike my leased F-150s, I own this so I intend to change the oil every 5K to avoid issues down the line. Overall, I don’t think I’d buy it again, but it’s the wife’s car, so it’s her choice.
@gailenrique28045 ай бұрын
You could have chosen the Turbo premium which is one below the plus, it also has the heated steering wheel. You can do android auto... it works with it. You just have to pair your android phone to the radio. Works like apple carplay.

I upgraded from a 18 cx5 touring and now have a 24 cx50 2f.5 premium. Concern about long term turbo. The Cx50 is a better vehicle to me. I don’t see a decrease in quality I personally perfer the dash layout and wider cargo. It feels more planted. In comparison my Cx5 felt hallow. I don’t notice the difference between the torsion and the independent but I do know turn is in more lively in the CX50.

i've got the '24 Meridian edition polymetal Gray and I love it, truly feels fun to drive. Makes our '24 Forester sport feel completely numb compared to it. People buy what they’re familiar with. The CX-5 has the better suspension setup, while the CX-50 has the better turbo engine from a reliability standpoint (a simple twin-scroll turbocharger in the CX-50, versus Mazda’s proprietary and somewhat complex “dynamic pressure” turbocharger in the CX-5 and other models). The models that use the dynamic pressure turbo are prone to head gasket issues, and this is just due to the design of their dynamic pressure system.

@@ccrider8483 It’s not an EV, and hybrids have advanced far past early years. Plus hybrid battery replacements aren’t as extreme.
