I bought my 2015 Mirage in late 2014 to use as a delivery car. Over eight years and 218,000 miles the car was only out of service for five days. The clutch cable broke and it took five days to get a new one. The cable itself took about 15 minutes to change. Most reliable car I have ever owned.

Im 64 and bought this exact car ES, sapphire blue, last year. Yes, it is kinda slow on acceleration, esp. with the CVT, but as you begin to master driving the car you realize that if you forgo the need for speed and just drive normally this slow to speed trait eventually drops from your mind!! It will get up to speed very nicely once you push the gear selector to the right, allowing it to rev higher and get up to speed for freeway merging much easier! Ok, once you remember that trick, the car then shows you all it has, which comes down to the simply the best car you can buy today for transportation, no other car has what this one does! Easy on gas, easy to park, extremely reliable, great visibility, the best warranty and very commonly goes over 200K, just needs consistent oil changes and you'll never want to lose this vehicle!!

I’m 35 and this is my second mirage after a 96 geo metro. I agree with you. Unfortunately people don’t see the value of using this and putting their money towards other goals. They’d rather pay 60k for a car and switch it up every two years while complaining they can’t afford life.
@extralock1045
@extralock1045 9 ай бұрын
Just a helpful tip, drive sport doesn't help with acceleration. It keeps the RPM higher, but you can also just push the throttle more in drive, and it will do the same. The 0-60 in both is the same, but DS uses more fuel. Only use case I find DS good for is going down hills, as it's engine braking, like keeping the car in 2nd gear, except in CVT terms.

So I just did a round trip drive with my blue mirage from Miami metro to Tampa. Drove it at night to not deal with traffic and averaged 53 mpg for a total of 475 miles. I’m a truck driver so I’m pretty good at being fuel efficient but man am I happy for that kind of fuel economy.

The people who shit on the Mirage are the ones who do it only because of it's cost and expected social status from it. Because it's a cheap car, what does it say "I am broke and this is all I could get" Much of those reviews, even by more degenerate people like Doug are just stupid because they review dumb 1000000003030210210912090132 horse power cars with 2 seats if you're lucky, and no, that is AWESOME! Look at the HP count!!!!!! It's ironic that over >90% of the people watching the most likely can never truly even afford those stupidly expensive, heavily impractical vehicles for no real purpose. But for the ones y'know, who actually want to take life seriously this what a car... should be. If it reliably takes you from one place to an another in one piece with the highest efficiency, wow, society has changed for the worse if we're now neglecting this and sadly it's being put out of production.

You hit the nail on the head. All negative reviews about the Mirage are from car enthusiasts, who only like HUGE vehicles with crazy power and all the latest technology. People who actually own the Mirage are totally in love with it. I recently bought a new one after doing that full research, and I have loved it. It truly is the perfect car for those of us who like simple small hatchbacks, especially if you hate all this modern technology that they're putting into cars these days, which are actually making cars less reliable & more expensive to fix. The base model Mirage has very little of that technology. It's reliable, gets amazing gas mileage, is fun to drive, looks great, and has plenty of power. People don't realize that 78hp is plenty for a 2080-pound car. A 3000-4000 lb car needs more than double that hp to be just as powerful. My Mirage gets up to speed on the highway just fine and maintains high speeds easily, and is able to pass easily. It pairs so perfectly with my 2010 Honda Fit. I think the Mirage is actually more powerful and handles bumps better.

With actual Mitsubishi vehicles (like this) you most definitely get what you pay for. The new DG outlander (2022+) is an alliance vehicle with Nissan and Renault. My point being, if anyone wants and actual Mitsubishi I'd highly suggest getting one (Mirage/Mirage G4/Eclipse cross/Outlander sport) sooner rather than later. I am a technician for Mitsubishi, I work on these everyday and I can say from experience that Mitsubishi doesn't deserve the "hate" that they get. As I mentioned previously about the new Outlander, since it is an alliance vehicle it is an amalgamation of the three companies I listed. Apparently from what I'm hearing through the grapevine is that Mitsubishi is going to have an all new lineup for 2025/2026 model years. More than likely they wont be pure Mitsubishi. i personally own a 2023 Mitsubishi outlander sport SE 4wd (4wd meaning it has multiple modes for the all wheel drive i.e. 2wd mode, adaptive 4wd and a mode to lock it into all wheel drive.) i swear by Mitsubishi, they are great cars with little to no issues. they are the definition of "if it ain't broke don't fix it". I figured i would spread some love for a what feels like a little known option in a "big three" Japanese car market.

I own a 2022 SE in White Diamond. Love the car, currently has 14K on it with zero trouble - it has proven itself to be very reliable. Fuel economy is excellent, easily in the 40+mpg category on every drive - sometimes above 50mpg in ideal conditions! The car could definitely benefit from some NVH improvements - engine and exhaust noise is intrusive. Road and wind noise is average, sound dampening could make a big difference. The Mirage has a lot of character, one of many reasons I enjoy driving it!

I own a yellow, 2024 Mitsubishi Mirage ES. I got it September 27th, 2023. Now it's March 30th, 2024, and I have 14,350 miles on it. Very good car! I do mostly freeway cruising. Sure, the speed limit is 70 MPH, but I don't go 70. I go 55. Why? It saves a bunch of fuel. I stay in the far right lane with cruise at 55 MPH, and get 60 miles per gallon. Amazing MPG! I use it also as a cargo van for my business. So I haul everything in it. Lawn equipment, paint, concrete, ladders, stuff like that. Lawn mowers too.

I wish I could go 55 on 70mph highways. Where I live, traffic is too heavy to be able to do that safely, when 99% of cars will be going 90-100+ on a 70mph highway. I try to get by with going only 70. I know it hurts gas mileage, but I have to do it. When I'm able to, I go 55.

I spent some time in a 2020. It's got more than enough power as long as you dont have too many or too large passengers. On top of that, the relatively light weight and low power means you really save not just on gas but brakes, tires, and wear and tear on the transmission. It also crazy easy to service from all the videos i've seen online.

I am most concerned about gas mileage when I buy an ICE car. I have a Kicks which gives me pretty good gas mileage. I didn't know much about the Mirage when I bought my car. Consumer Reports trashed the Mirage, and I believed them. But these days I don't believe Consumer Reports the way I used to. However, I'm probably better off with the bigger car because I have to go on the expressway in an area filled with crazy, reckless drivers. The Mirage has a high fatality rate when in accidents. If I didn't have to go on the expressway, I'd like the better mileage.

I don't mean to sound rude, I'm genuinely curious: why would you prefer to buy a new subcompact like the Mirage instead of a gently used, but nicer economy car like a Honda Civic? I found a 2022 Civic for $23k in my area with 25k miles. To me, it looks nicer inside and out, has more power, has really nice features like adaptive cruise control, has better safety features, has a bigger interior, and you take less of the depreciation hit. And you still get 37 miles per gallon. In my case, being a car enthusiast, I went with a 2014 Cadillac ELR for the same money with 63k miles. I wouldn't recommend it for the average driver due to reliability, but damn is it ever nice. Still has great features, it's super quiet, super comfy, and being a PHEV it's gas mileage is well into the triple digits for my daily commute.

New car warranty, and because for me a very short wheelbase is one of the most important things I look for in a car. I loved the Smart ForTwo and the Sonic IQ, and would have bought one but I have kids and so I need some sort of back seat. In dense urban driving the tiny car allows you to park in spots that others have to pass on. Plus, for me, the very small car feels like an extension of myself more than just the machine I'm driving.

I've sat in nearly every new car in the US under 30k, and out of all of them, the Mirage stood out the most. The little 3 cylinder seems interesting to me, it sounds funny. The CVT drives really well. The Mirage gets the best gas mileage. It's the smallest out of the new cars as well. It's cheaper to drive the Mirage over an electric car here, electric is $0.63/kwh. The Mirage is also a hatchback, which I need. Well, either a hatchback, station wagon, or cargo van. My family has a lot of cars, from a 1980 Corvette, to a brand new Ford Maverick Hybrid. And some in between, like a 2004 Cadillac Deville, 2003 F150, 2004 Nissan Frontier, 2008 Toyota Prius, and a few other cars. Out of all of those, I still pick my 2024 Mirage to drive. The inside of the Mirage is almost the same size as the Ford Maverick. Same leg room in both. Same leg width in both. Close to the same head room, Maverick slightly wins by about 2 inches. The dash to the backrest of the rear seat is less in the Maverick. The main difference is width, even though you have the same leg room width, the car is much skinner than the truck. How they managed to pull that off is by making the center console skinner. So, although you sit closer to the person next to you in the car, you still have about the same room. But sit about 4 inches closer to each other.

To be fair if we were to consider a used Mirage with around 25k miles, it would generally fall below the $9k price point. But you are absolutely correct about how a Civic will be a much better car and a better choice overall. However I cannot afford a car for more than $10k without getting a loan, but I did buy a grandma 2012 Civic in 2019 for $9k. Now its worth $14k. But if my car gets into an accident and insurance totals my car out for $6k, I will have to buy a Mirage.

Cost to operate is an aspect people forget about. Not only does this grocery getter get GREAT fuel mileage, it also is cheap to maintain. Oil changes (after the free maintenance out to 30k miles!) cost half as much as a 2.0L four cylinder because it needs considerably less oil and that oil doesn’t have to be synthetic because it isn’t a high compression, turbo engine. In addition, the NA motor doesn’t require a high pressure fuel pump or injectors which are notoriously unreliable and expensive to service. Tires and breaks last for a LONG time because the car is relatively lightweight and they don’t cost an arm and leg to replace either. The only thing that should make people take pause is the CVT. These pieces of kit have been known to be extremely unreliable in years gone by. That’s just not really the case today. The Mirage’s anemic engine (just under 80 horses) which turns some folks off, is a plus when connected to a CVT because it won’t stress the transmission at all. For those in the market for a true budget transporter that will last, the Mirage is worth a serious look. P.S. it comes with an actual spare tire, not just a can of Fix-A-Flat and a cheap air compressor.

A real car enthusiast should understand the basic need for inexpensive reliable transportation on a budget.

Would only buy it with manual. CVT is awful, made by Jatco, the same crap used in Nissans. Correction, they did not stop making any of them, they just stopped sellig them in the USA

I’m here looking for another gas saver I had a 2003 Mitsubishi galant wine red probably one of the most reliable vehicles I touched . Mitsubishi is a very unrated company when it comes to reliability . I got 285k out of that car I just wanted something new

i also just got a 2024 mirage as a rental after my 2002 LX470 was rear ended at a light. And i agree that most negative reviews come from car enthusiasts who miss the mark on the car, and i too am a fan of sub compact reliable cars. However, i feel that the mirage is truly a poorly designed car. the 3 cylinder engine sounds broken from the factory, its incredibly loud and there are vibrations at idle. The interior is well put together and everything appears durable, but to call it anything other than extremely cheap is incorrect. 75 horsepower is underpowered, which wouldnt be a huge downside if the fuel economy made up for it. A honda civic gets only 3 mpg worse than a new mirage. In my opinion, you shouldnt spend 17 grand on a new mirage. your money is better spent on a used fit, or yaris.

Horrific crash test safety, but otherwise a good car. Look at Prius instead.

Its not horrific in comparison to cars from 10 years ago. Just compared to the insane Obamacars of today.
