For 2024, the Toyota Land Cruiser and Lexus GX are fully redesigned, more boxy and rugged than ever.
One luxury SUV and second is premium SUV are closely related, after all have key differences-here’s what separates the new Land Cruiser and GX.
The pair share design cues and the TNGA-F body-on-frame platform under the skin. Although the GX and Land Cruiser have many similarities, including their off-road focus, they have notable differences, too.
At the front of new Land Cruiser 250 rectangular headlights are mounted above a pair of intakes, evoking the style of the Toyota J60. The plastic cladding on the sides of the front bumper is more prominent than in the Lexus, integrating extra inlets while the sculpted body-colored parts of the bumper house the foglights. Finally, the bonnet is slightly different with the bumps fading away into the boxy nose. The plastic grille extends to a black trim piece on the utilitarian bumper, also carrying the same old-school design and leading to a skid plate.
At the rear is another story as the Toyota gets a unique pair of vertically-stacked taillights instead of the Lexus‘ full-width treatment. The tailgate adopts Land Cruiser lettering while the rear glass is shared.
The profile appears to be shared between the sibling SUVs, likely with different wheels and minor changes on the trim.

2024 Land Cruiser vs. 2024 GX: Engines and Power.
This is one of the biggest differences between the new Land Cruiser and GX. The 2024 Land Cruiser is now a hybrid, equipped with a 2.4-liter turbocharged I-4 augmented by an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed automatic transmission. Toyota calls this system i-Force Max. Like in the 2024 Tacoma it's also found in, it produces 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. Full-time four-wheel drive with a two-speed transfer case is standard. Towing tops out at 6,000 pounds.
The GX packs a 3.4-liter twin-turbocharged V-6, a unit shared with the Toyota Tundra. In the GX it makes 349 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque, sent through a 10-speed automatic transmission to standard four-wheel drive. It can tow up to 8,000 pounds. A hybrid model is also on the way.

@@c.k.5480 It's sounding like they will use the same 2.4L turbo hybrid that's in the Land Cruiser. I can't fathom they won't tune it to have more hp/lb-ft tq than the std 3.4L GX 349hp given it's a Lexus. I would much rather have a detuned 3.4L i-Force Max hybrid with say ~400hp/520lb-ft tq. (vs the 437hp/583lb-ft tq found in the LX and Tundra). That would be amazing.

LC250 VS the GX550. GX has 2 more cylinders, 1 more turbo, more Hp & torque, goes 1 sec quicker to 60, is taller, is longer, has 2 more tranny gears, tows 2k more, holds more gas, gets 2MPG less, takes premium, has no hybrid and is only 10k more US. I’ll take the twin turbo V6 GX with the Land cruiser 112.2” wheelbase please. It’s perfect.

Toyota's stating the 2.4L hybrid in the LC will be getting 27mpg combined whereas the GX is estimated 17mpg power seems very similiar. 2.4L hybrid: 326hp, 465lb-ft 3.4L TT V6: 349hp, 479lb-ft

@@chibbyylol I read: 19 MPG Land Cruiser 17 MPG GX550 Those are combined fuel numbers I thought. The 27mpg was the lowest it could do (I could be wrong), but if not, that would truly be amazing economy at the expense of not having a flat rear floor…

@@c.k.5480 The Toyota Crown platinum trim has the same engine (albiet different transmission), is likely around ~1000lbs lighter and gets 29 city, 32 highway 30 combined; 27 combined isn't too far fetched for the land cruiser

@@chibbyylol makes sense. I’d still prefer the lower floor deck, no Hybrid as the GX to me, is a 3rd Gen 4Runner with twin turbos with 2024 Lexus tech. When we look back at this offering, it may actually be the last hurrah for that engine without a Hybrid attached to it. For the long haul, I like premium gas and no hybrid to look after. GX may be the last analogue Land Cruiser

Yeah I’ve had more V8s than anything else, and they were great when there wasn’t a better way to get more performance. But they are going the way of the dinosaurs. Most boomers don’t even care cos they have had all the V8s. It’s the wannabe boomers who are crying about it 😂

This should be called FJ Cruiser. I definitely like the 2023 Landcruiser LC300 offered in other markets around the world. I hope new 4runner will be an improvement of the great SUV.

The LC still looks like current 4 runner while the GX is way more polished and evolutionary. My 09 GX have been trouble free with 174000 miles. It will be the perfect timing for the new one coming in spring.

People will still prefer the LC over the lexus, the engine in LC is the same as one used in the highlander hybrid max and from all reviews, nothing beats it's refinement. It's like a combination of pure electric and and V6, you average 27 mpg ish vs 19 in Lexus yet the difference in HP and torque are about just 10.

@@modernsoccer1860it’s kinda the same engine as the Grand Highlander, but quite different too. GH has the electric motor powering the rear axle on its own. LC and Tacoma have it between the engine and transmission, multiplying that torque better to the wheels.

I don't get it... Why not to make SUV with both - good motor and normal bumpers? One has at least v6 motor, but fragile plastic bumper (still better than previous generation). Another one has reasonable bumpers and skid plates, but only 2.4L...(?!) Better motor must be at least optional for LC. Both should have optional v6 and v8 and let customer pick what they need - reliability and performance vs fuel economy. SUV should be simple and reliable, I would pick solid and reliable v6 or v8 instead of over-complicated turbo-hybrid. Both do not make flat floor in the trunk with folded read sits (important and must have for me). Toyota, you have room for improvements!

Remember it's not legendary land Cruiser 300 series it's Land Cruiser Parado 200/250 series .here in USA Prado was only launched as Lexus GX 470 .In other parts of the world was Parado . Now Toyota launches Parado here in USA as Land Cruiser and in Lexus brand continues as GX
