In the design brief of the 1200X was the requirement to make it more road focused and closer to the 900 Street Scrambler which I love riding and in that I reckon Triumph has succeeded which is why I'm swapping my SS for for one. I'm over 6ft so the seat height of the XE isn't an issue for me but the lower height on the X just makes it feel more like a SS. I've done a couple of very mild green lanes on the SS but I'm used to green laning/off roading on an Enduro bike so I wouldn't tackle anything remotely serious on any of the Triumph Scrambler range. I've seen reviews of the X calling it a cheapened and de-specced XC but it's much more than that IMO and I think it will sell well.👍

A few years back I took the 900 scrambler for a test ride, I loved it but as I already owned a Thruxton 1200 I walked away thinking “If only they’d put the 1200 engine in that”, well scroll on a few years and that’s in effect what they have done, and that’s why there’s a 1200X sitting in my garage now 🙂.

Good informative review. I took one out last weekend after testing the XC. Totally agree it's a differnt bike and noticablly less top heavy. Sure you *can* make the XC less of a handful with the Tec lowering springs but that defeats the point of having those ohlins and you lose the ground clearance. I also didnt like the loss of cornering ABS either on XC as I will use the bike for 2 up. I guess I would prefer the option to pay £500 more for an X+ with adjustible suspension but it feels pretty good out of the box to me on cruddy fen roads and potholes... [hint to Triumph, folks not blessed with 34" inside legs still have as much money in thier pockets and we like farkly bits too] . The X feels uncannily like a my old streetscrambler but now with enough oomph. I took my old SS places I wouldnt dare take my R1200GS. I ordered a grey one.

I have a 2020 1200XE and I love it. Massive grin factor. I am 6’2” though so no issue with its height and can’t say it feels top heavy, in fact i think it feels quite light. Then again, as a previous owner of the gen 3 Tiger which defines top heavy, everything feels light to that.
@simotofoto10 ай бұрын
hahah yeah the gen 3 tiger was a bit of a handful, the XE is a phenomenal bike

I ride my XE in sunny hot Brisbane Australia and find the exhaust heat no issue at all, in fact most of the heat I feel is coming from the transmission case.
@simotofoto9 ай бұрын
In Scotland any heat generated is a bonus lol

I'm 5'6" with a 29" inside leg and it is fine - the seat is narrow as well as quite low.

I had issues with the accent too and had to use the subtitles… but I loooove the accent, made want to hop on a plane (from Spain) and go visit Scotland! I like the way you structured the review too even though I finally went for the XC because of the color, the bling factor and the reduced dealer price. 😅

The problem with the X: it does not have cruise control. The XE is too high for me.
@phils218010 ай бұрын
What is this problem people have with bikes not having cruise control? I've never had a bike with cruise control and it's never been an issue. I've done almost 800 miles in one day on my ZZR1400 which doesn't have CC and never even thought about it but then I do have quite big hands and strong wrists!😂
@simotofoto10 ай бұрын
I don't know how I would feel using cruise control and taking my hands off the bars on a naked, I would be scared I get blown off the back of the bike lol. Cheers Si
@bertranddefrontenac10 ай бұрын
@@simotofotowell.. the XE does have cc. The MT10 and the Tuono V4 do have cc. In my opinion, Triumph should have built one in the x too (as they did in the XE and in the T120). But thanks for the cool videos you're doing, Si!
@robs498810 ай бұрын
You keep calling it a wee bike. A bike with a 1200 engine that weighs 228 kgs isn't a wee bike.
@simotofoto10 ай бұрын
Thats a good point Robs, think at my size most things are wee bikes lol, cheers Si
