Really annoys me when they use the R badging on none R golfs.

Isn’t the “R” a line though and not specific to golf R? Like polos with strimmer engines in but have R line badges
@alliedfroth4 ай бұрын
@@conorf8091 No! A golf R is what it is a Golf R. You aint getting the RS line with Audi, a RS is a RS.
@projectr24514 ай бұрын
@@conorf8091 R is Volkswagen’s performance division. The R Line is simply a styling pack. It’s the top of the line trim for the non-performance Golf. It’s the same with S Line, M Sport, AMG Line, etc.
@projectr24514 ай бұрын
@@conorf8091 It’s essentially getting the looks of the performance variants in an affordable package. But the Mk8 R Line doesn’t look much like the R to me. More like the GTD, GTI and GTE, in terms of front grill shape. The Mk7.5 Golf R Line looked a lot more like the Golf R. Only difference was the R Line had honeycomb grille, whereas the R had slats. R Line obviously had R Line logo and didn’t come with LED lights as standard. And from the rear, the R Line has fake exhaust tips, whereas the R has quad exhaust pipes, two on each side. And they’re real. 😊

My wife has had this running gear in her T roc for 5 years, she likes it. Does this use the gen B engine that uses the Budack (Miller) cycle for valve opening and closing ? It's the econo version of the EA888. Runs out of turbo early though and pointless holding on to gears. I can't see a MAF sensor on this though, so it may just be a detuned EA888.
@Theurgicnick3 ай бұрын
Same engine out of the face lifted Polo Gti. Wifes got one and I can confirm same engine code, DNN(D) in her case. Which as you correctly suspect is a detuned version of the 888

Great review Andrew - this drivetrain used in A3 40 TFSI in Oz along with 1.5 in A35 - I’d be ,ore interested if more bhp as 140kw from a 2.0 turbo engine in 2024 is underwhelming and not sure 320nm of torque compensates when GTI has 370nm however AWD is the big gain here especially on slippery winter roads

I’m a few months away from purchasing. I’m interested in a 7.5 performance pack or R. I’d need to check insurance cost on the R. Do you still sell cars? If not is there anywhere you’d recommend to purchase one? I’ve got a polo worth between 8 and 9 k. I think I have about 4 k in savings with a few months around September have another 3 to 4 k saved. If there’s any recommendations it would be greatly appreciated

Interested in this review specifically because my formentor is a 190 4WD set up, and most Formentor reviews are 150 or the 310. Would be good to learn more about what the E888 190 engine is in relation to its more powerful offerings.

I think the DNN engine could well be the GTI 245 engine with different software. The EA888s with higher output will all be a different version with bigger turbo and uprated internals. You’ll enjoy your Formentor 👍

Andrew I think you’re right. My wife has the face lifted Polo GTI and it has the same engine code DNN(D) in her case, which gets the slight bump in power to 207bhp and same torque figure of 320NM

My parents had almost a full spec one on order, AWD, 190ps, Pano, winter, etc. There own words were "We bought the GTD because it was the same spec but had the IQ headlights, it's a shame the option wasn't there for this model". It's amazing that VW havent allowed this option on more model as in today's world of "headlight wars" that manufactures seem to be pushing, a lot of people take this into consideration. They did test the car and said it drove really smoothly and was quite fun, although they are used to the engine and gearbox from there Tiguan R Line Tech with the same running gear.
