Great video Bob, great to know a bit more about you and your thoughts. I agree totally that all antiques, TV's, radios, sewing machines, victrolas, etc. deserve to be restored if possible. They are a part of history and deserve to be enjoyed by as many people today as possible. That's why I do what I do, and hope that when I'm gone my children and grandchildren can know and appreciate stuff that has survived in my care that date back to 1912.

Wow Bob, I had no idea you were also managing a software group, that's a lot of stress! You are so easy going, in addition to your great interest in the 1940's televisions, I suspect the restorations are good stress therapy. I have really enjoyed your videos and frequent comments to subscriber's comments and, I have a similar desire for preserving the early television history. I went through the same loss of parents ordeal 6 years ago so, can fully appreciate what you have gone through. I hope 2025 goes smoother for you - Happy New Year!

Sorry for your loss. Both my parents have passed - For me, it took about 9 months to get back to "normal" . . . where I did not think about it daily. Joined Early TV Museum after learning about it from you. I will be going for sure! I quit my hobby of restoring old radios and TVS about 20 years ago - You and Shango066 have rekindled my love for this type of work. I have been buying test equipment and getting my workbench setup . . . Thank you!!

@RickO.-vq8oh Good morning Rick. I had to make a quick comment as it sounds like we're in a similar situation. Back in the 80s when I was a teenager I had quite the radio and television collection. I was a super introverted kid and spent many hours working on my hobby. Right around 1990 I had to give up the hobby for a while because of living circumstances and storage availability. Fast forward to last year and I'm just getting back into it! Fortunately I still have some of my old smaller radios and test equipment from back then. Looking forward to meeting you guys at the television Museum this spring. I really need to join!

Thanks for sharing, I love these type videos where people such as yourself share your background stories. I always wondered what your primary source of income came from. It amazes me the diversity in occupations to hobby differences are. I’ve always shied away from computers and software part of electronics. I’m an analog type guy. Over the years I’ve come to realize many of us have hobbies that are different than our full time occupation. I’ve come to learn, you go where the money is to exist, and hobbies come afterward. I’ve become a collector/hoarder for the same reasons you have shared. I like you don’t mind giving away my excess stash of electronics, junk as I call it. The unfortunate part is trying to find some young people interested enough to want to appreciate and want to learn. I hate when folks want my stuff only so they can quickly sell it to make a profit. Another unfortunate aspect of this hobby and collecting is the cost of shipping. So much ends up going to the landfill and lost forever. So much for my rant, thanks again for sharing.

I love seeing these old TVs being fixed and working. I generally only do radios myself, as although I was trained in electronics, I have a bit of a phobia about those huge glass picture tubes under high vacuum. That, and the massive voltages like the one that zapped you recently! Like you, I sometimes wonder what will happen to them after we've gone - but they're nostalgia for us that grew up with them. (Different sets, for me, as I grew up and live in the UK). I wish you a great 2025 and I still remember my parents, even though I lost them over 30 years ago now.

I look forward to every one of your videos as I love to learn anything about vintage electronics! You have that calm and knowledgeable demeanor that’s got my attention. I used to repair old television sets but due to health, I no longer deal with those dusty, heavy sets. I watch your channel and shango’s channel and that keeps me in a familiar loop. Thank you for doing what you do as it is very appropriate your hard work!

First, sorry for your loss Bob. Second, thank you for the Riders information. I've never used Patreon to support a channel before... I will be doing this as soon as I'm actually awake haha. I've been trying to find certain Riders information and have totally struck out. This is going to be an amazing resource. Thanks again!

Of all your sets, I would love to see one of your Scott 6-T-11’s restored and working. That and your Dumont Clifton. Thanks for sharing your 15 year journey. Been following you for most of that time and credit your videos with getting me into the hobby and being fairly successful at it. 😂. Been great hanging out recently too and getting to know you beyond the hobby. Happy holidays and best wishes for 2025, Bob!

considering the age of these devices, any guarantee is insignificant. Values are dependent upon the buyer, and in no way reflects upon the average market value. Also, schematics, be they Riders or Sams, are readily available both in folder files and/or physical paper copies free of charge and/or at a cost online. Many SAMS and Riders are available online or for next to nothing. Vintage televisions are NOT plug and play, nor do they merit a "dog bed" end of life. I thank people like Bob for making them be what they were. And yes, old televisions are perfectly capable of broadcasting modern digital signals with the help of a converter!

About the 37-690- I emailed you a long while back about the station tabs for these Philcos, which even radio daze does not reproduce. I made up in photoshop new station tabs and had some custom stickers made up. You can cut a tab out of the sticker material, stick it on some thin plastic material like those impossible-to-open clamshell packaging some products sold in stores come in for security purposes, and then cut it to size and put it in any of those telephone-dial bezels that are always missing some of the tabs. If you want one I can drop it in the mail.

Bob, sorry for your loss, hope 2025 is a better year for you… Question, I am starting to work on a Predicta Princess and may have some questions once I really start to get into it…is there a good way to get in touch with you? Most appreciated. Thanks, Jim.

My parents are gone. Lost my mother when she was 84. With my holiday time off I got my RCA CTC-5 working and now I'm working on a Conar TV kit which is missing the power transformer. It's supposed to be just 6.3 volts for filament and 120 volts for plate.

As far as durability goes, as a child we had a new circa 1963 Zenith portable. It was used probably at least 8 hours a day, every day, for well over a dozen years without fail. It was never serviced and played fine when I threw it away in the late 70's ! I do regret youthful indiscretions ! No one wanted that old 60's junk! 40,000 hours without servicing ! Probably the norm in the sixties. We were late to the color tv era.

Pardon my saying so, but if your team leader on a legacy conversion that's behind schedule, I would advise against making these hobby videos because your boss is going to think you're not committed totally to getting the job done. If I were you I would focus every effort on the legacy conversion and leave the hobby stuff for later 😮
