Two Updates on the Accord Hybrid: 1 - Battery guage is always up on the far left of the MID. Kirk, thanks for another informative video! I know the Camry is and always has been the Accord’s main rival, but what about the Sonata, which was heavily refreshed for 2024? For your money, would you get an Accord Hybrid Touring (fully loaded) or a Sonata Hybrid Limited (fully loaded), and why?

I owned a 2020 Accord LX. I then test drove a 2024 Accord EX-L Hybrid. My reaction was wow, it was smoother, quieter, and even more fuel efficient. The resale value on my 2020 Accord LX was awesome, and this thing was even better. I ended up getting a 2024 Pilot, because I wanted an SUV more than I wanted to make the smartest choice, but the Accord Hybrids are a very, very smart choice for your wallet. When I see my mpg's on the Pilot, I miss the heck out of my Accord that got 38 mpg highway at 80 mph, but there was some upcoming need for an SUV in my life, so I went with it. For $33k on the EX-L Hybrid, you are getting a LOT of car for the money.

The reason the engine is on more frequently is because you are continually driving in Sport mode. In both Econ and Normal, the engine will run much less. I drive in Econ 100 of the time and have no trouble accelerating and average slightly above 50mpg with the 23 Touring. Also,the battery charge is always on the far left. You can game the hybrid system when in the other modes as you can pulse and glide and other ways to maximize your time in EV mode. I'm in Tampa and consistently achieve the 50 mpg with AC running in Econ mode.

We had a Camry as a rental for a week and liked it a lot, high 40's mileage around Portland and even up and down Mt Hood. Then test drove an Accord Touring and liked it better for comfort and interior materials, build quality and stereo (was not a JBL in the Camry and was Bose in Accord). Not enough time to do a mileage test. Then test drove the Civic hybrid hatch Sport Touring and ended up getting it. Road noise is more than Accord but acceleration, sporty dynamics, mpg, and utility of the hatch won out. Also the Civic feels like you sit higher in the vehicle, and you look out over the dash. The Accord you feel like you're down in the vehicle, looking at the dash. The lower cost of the Civic was another benefit. Honestly I am finding the Civic seat bottoms a little on the hard side, but overall happy with the choice. Suburban driving is bouncing around 50 mpg in Ohio temperatures so that is living up to my expectations.

I really think the accord would benefit from a cheaper, more base-level hybrid that focuses a bit more on fuel economy and/comfort. Also AWD. Delegating the hybrids exclusively to their top trims with the bigger wheels and everything just isn’t all that appealing with the competition offering better packages for the same or less money. Aside from that though it does really seem like a great car. I’m keeping my eye out for quieter, smoother sedans with better MPG than my current rough & noisy old ass Accord. I’ve been cross shopping used Avalons, ES, Camry, Accord etc and this new a accord is definitely a contender

The Accord has always been a highway star. It just handles better than the Camry. But I like the instant power of the Camry and its softer suspension. I got tired of driving Accords and getting rattled all over the place from harsh roads. My 1.5T Accord had oil dilution. And my 6-speed manual Accord before that was never the same after I changed the clutch fluid. The Camry wins by a mile on fuel economy, reliability, suspension comfort, responsiveness to pedal inputs. The Accord should have a trim level where it has 16" wheels and a soft suspension. But the in the Camry you CAN feel the engine going on and off all the time. When the engine kicks on, you feel a slight jiggle.

Would the engine run constantly even in city driving, and can its clutch even connect the engine if needed at lower speeds? I still can't believe its already the 3rd model year for this gen Accord. With an SE package already showing up and discounted pricing, this doesn't bode well for 3rd thru 5th year sales. I thought Honda would have corrected the mistakes faster than they have: still too-black and decontented interior for their flagship, color choices (inside and out), and the blandness of the exterior - which is maybe as simple as a fog lights option and some body color painted trim at the bottom lip.

I still don't like how they cheaped out on the interior. I HATE that they made the rear headrests cheap stitched in ones that do nothing to protect the rear passengers from whiplash. Also when folding the rears I like to be able to remove the headrests for more space. Prologue isn't a Honda, I don't care what the badge says it's a General Mistake.

Yes... The rear head rests that are formed into the seat is a cheap step too far

I would have gotten a new Camry, but the Honda dealer essentially saved me 5k in incentives and a higher trade in value for getting the Accord Hybrid Touring vs the XSE AWD. The Toyota dealer wouldn't budge at all. Their loss. Money is definitely a factor, and my wallet won over what my eyes wanted. It's the ugliest Accord ever but also the most refined.

The Camry does not have better performance. The Accord is quicker. C&D got 6.4 with the Accord. You are doing it wrong for the 0-60 test. Traction control off and brake torque. You would have hit the 6.4 The Camry got 6.8 0-60.

NPCs aren’t the drivers of this Accord. The real NPCs are the ones who do not even consider the Accord because apparently to them, the bland exterior matters more than an interior with superb ergonomics and a refined and comfortable driving experience. And to those who say it’s because Honda got rid of the 2.0T, guess what? Toyota got rid of the V6 Camry and they are not replacing that with a 2.4t or a hybrid Max.

Honestly regarding the quirks is good, but certain things can't be sugar-coated such as the hesitation when the accelerator is smashed. As far as the exterior styling, it's an epic failure. Hard to believe the Honda execs approved the design.

6.5 is pretty quick for such a large car. Looks closer to a large sedan vs a midsize.
@fredjemal3689Ай бұрын
The exterior looks quite sophisticated for a mainstream midsize sedan . While the front end is conservative the side profile has a luxury like appearance . It looks similar to a Caddy CT-6 from the side. The rear lights is an improvement over the last gen’s stapler lights (< >). The interior is simple and handsome. Dealers are now offering discounts so It’s a much better deal now than last year.

The Accord is actually quicker than the Camry. Car and Driver did instrumented acceleration testing and the Accord is quicker than the Camry in most metrics, including 0-60. You need to look at the torque the electric motor produces, that’s what does 100% of the propulsion at most speeds. Honda really needs to add AWD though.

You’re most likely going to like the Accord better. I drove them back to back and there was hardly a comparison. Honda’s generally are more fun to drive. Yes Toyota’s hybrids are technically more efficient, Honda does a better job at balancing efficiency, refinement and a fun, sporting driving experience. Also don’t dismiss the Civic Hybrid either. I bought the 25 Sport Touring and I absolutely love it.

It’s a perfect highway cruiser. Even the older 2.0t in the old gen was a npc car, it was just quick. But it had no character. Wasn’t fun in any other way of just being quick. When they took the v6 out and got rid of the coupe in 2017 it went down hill. I had a ‘17 coupe v6 manual. I miss that car so much. That was a beautiful car. And again yes the 2.0t was quick but it just didn’t have any character for me.
