Sound on! I have taken more spy video footage of the electric Porsche 983 Boxster during more tests on the Nürburgring. The car continued testing in 2023 and returned for more durability tests on the race track.

Yeah, the chassis stays flat. Great style. Looks like a very stiff chassis with good absorption of road bumps. I think the base Boxster will be enough to have a crazy blast. No need to wait for the GT RS version.

some have speculated that this 718 EV will be allowed to rise to the same level as 911 because EV isn't direct competition to ICE. that thing looks like they stuffed it full of tech like a fucking Turbo S because of how clinical and drama free it looks. also it seems that 718 will come as both EV and ICE and that 911 will come as ICE and Hybrid, so i would expect that ICE cayman will be kept below 911 as before but the EV may go all the way up to Turbo S territory. i think this is why it looks wider than the old Cayman because this isn't really a Cayman anymore - it's really a 2-door Taycan. the 718 e-performance prototype has the ( modified ) motors from the Taycan and basically a 50/50 weight distribution like the Taycan as well. having driven the E-Tron GT ( both regular and RS ) i am looking forward to this 2 door version though i am curious if it will have a 2-speed gearbox like taycan or 3-motor like SQ8 E-Tron or just have a plain vanilla 2-motor ... probably the latter. in the e-tron GT it runs out of steam pretty quick at high speed so that first gear seems out of place because it makes it feel like a space ship off the line then when you get to 80 mph it just feels like regular car. i would rather skip that 2-speed gearbox and have consistent feel.

Sorry but GT3RS is too much expensive for 99,99 % of car enthusiast's. And you have to have a big very big history in buying Porsche's to be selected by Porsche to purchase the GT3RS which is an invitation car only to buy. So who cares of it...! The boxster T (touring trim) has a sport chassis and is affordable for a few of car enthusiast's.

Hello novice, i teach you that porsche have a full lineup of trims for the boxster. That means the base model have soft suspensions and the track focused version have hard suspension. This is obviously the base model Boxster. So it is logical that it has soft suspension. However Porsche test it on the track to spot any chassis tuning issues and safety of the behavior.

They can use their knowledge acquired with the taycan which is crazy technological. The only problem is the heavy weight. But in 10 years with solid state batteries, it will not be a problem anymore.

@@lensoprezole5322 Funny thing is our Taycan 4S isn't really that heavy compared to many vehicles. It weighs pretty much the same as an Audi S7, for example. So the weight really isn't so much of a 'problem' but a characteristic. Less weight would be good from the efficiency perspective, but realistically it is never going to be a compact sports car under 4000lbs no matter what.

@@homersimp When Porsche announced they were moving to a liquid cooled drive train, it made the prices of the older air-cooled models skyrocket as collectibles. Moving to an all-EV drive train will probably do the same for the gas-powered models, especially for the more desirable ones post-2009 like the GTS, GT4, and R.

@@fxlltxtsearch tire und windnoises are the main noises on any car above 30-50km/h. But under hard acceleration an ICE Car creates unnecessary noises. An EV stays at the same soundlevel and still accelerates very quickly.

Give how brave Porsche is with going ahead with the full EV only sports car i hope they are brave enough to change the name. Besides its no longer a BOXer engine roadSTER (BOXSTER) rather a EVSTER. Think i will pass on this. Can imagine this will be £110k or 130k Euro car when fully specced in GTS form and if Taycan is anything to go by, depreciate heavily too.

Yeah I agree, it should not be called the Boxster. Just create a new model like they did with the Taycan, they didn't call it the Panamera 9XX... Maybe they didn't want to use the Panamera name since it is not that popular

They won't change the name. Every modern 911 has a turbo, but only the top models are called Turbo (S). Even their electric Taycan has a 'Turbo' model. So count on it for Porsche to call this the 718 Boxster-E

@@lensoprezole5322 haha funny you say that. Huge mx5 fan here and actually owned a 2017 ND Mx5. Absolutely loved the thing and was sad to move it on. Alas like most MX5 owners the allure to a Boxster was too great. Having said this, the MX5 is not immune to this electric future. Mazda have already mooted the new MX5 NE via the latest iconic SP concept. Stunning thing but one which will be hybrid/electric too, so now is the time to get the current version of either car as these cars are not long for this world sadly.

This is a test mule disguised to stay discreet before it gets officialy presented. This is a fake exhaust, you can see the car is covered in the key areas front and rear bumpers and lights. All manufacturers do this with the prototype test mules.

Porsche, give the customer the option, ICE engine and EV, let the customer choose. In the US, the electric cars are piling up in the dealerships, don't go full in with the best sports car on the market. Anything over 3200 lbs is too heavy to be a sports car. Go find a Porsche 987 Cayman at 2900 lbs and drive it, instant smile on your face.

Yeah I honestly don't see how this will be successful unless Porsche has somehow dramatically improved the technology and I serious doubt they are investing the time or resources to do that. If it is lightweight it will have more limited range, which means it won't be as usable as a daily, and definitely won't be a good road trip car (I might even worry about taking it for canyon drives). If it has more range it will of course be heavy and expensive.

The world is bigger than the USA. In Europe and other places regulations force car manufacturers to reduce the carbon emissions of their fleet. So manufacturers just have to make electric models to meet regulations. Porsche has stated that, for now, the 911 will remain to have an ICE, problably light hybrid.

And the truth is, just Europe regulations are forced drastically and in California, USA, but the regulations doesn't really matter. If you try to sell a car which doesn't sell, you will go broke. Making a sports car used to require a very complex high tech engine but in the era of EV's you just require a body shape that looks like a sports car. The performance is easy to deliver, the weight of the batteries alone keeps the car rooted to the ground, most of the time. Currently EVs are targeting SUV and normal saloon style bodies but it won't be long before many start to roll out super fast sports cars IMO just because it's so easy now with off the shelve motors and batteries. The MG Cyberster is just an example. Some great styling and some awful elements ( badge and rear lights ) but there will be many to choose from I am sure. I doubt Porsche can do anything to make an EV sports car any better than any other EV sports car. I see a whole new cottage industry starting in EV sports cars based on standard components. On the plus side this should mean lots of options without the reliability issues. Of course we'd like Petrol sports cars but it looks like we are heading for no choice on that.

The cayman/boxster supposedly has a battery where the engine is on the gas versions making it one of the only non-skateboard style evs. This means you can sit much lower like a true 718, and the weight and driving dynamics are supposed to be similar. The biggest difference should be quite a bit more horsepower. I bet range will not be great though. My Cayman S gets 450 miles on a fillup.

Nobody is asking the important questions here: 1. How do you experience the forward thrust feeling of jamming the transmission into 3rd gear? 2. How do I initiate a drift to do donuts? 3. Is there a hand brake? 4. Does it keep pulling after 130 mph or does the power stop delivering like a Tesla? 5. Can I burn rubber with hand brake pulled up while giving gas?

EV with auto trans. So you sit in it. Quietly. No shift. Ok, maybe you use the paddle shifters. If you drive it like a sports car your mileage drops to 150, so it really is a weekend short distance driver, unlike the current Boxster you can take anywhere, any distance. Next month I am taking a long distance tour in my Boxster. 25 of us. Think about the competition for the charging stations. We’ll be all over town hunting them down. Wait until the next Porsche parade. PCA better have a plan. Boxster’s character as a design is its mid engine. I guess it will have built in ballast. Works for sailboats. Porsche’s move to EVs will mean service for their ICE vehicles will go the direction of the 944, 928, 968. You’ll take it in to the shop and they’ll tell you they have no one to fix it. Take it to Billy Bobs truck repair. Can’t believe I sold my Fiero.

Yeah was funny when a 997 GT3 was following it. There was that typical silence/electrical whirl then you heard the GT3 accelerate off. Immediately thought “thats what i should be hearing. That sound is Porsche!!”
