Martin : i think that the central part between the rear lights is camouflaged. I think it will be a light bar as the taycan. Car manufacturers like to give their lineup a family design, instantly recognized by people. As you can see for the headlights almost identical to the taycan. I love light bars at the rear of cars.

I wouldn't say "Massive". They're separate categories. The only buyers they'll loose are the ones looking for a 2 seater sports car but settled for a 4 door sedan because it was the best out there. I for one would've chosen this little demon over my Model S, but that's because I have no need for the extra space. As it stands, if this is rolled out, this car will have its own market cornered until someone else jumps in.

Because Boxster (not Boxter) is a well known model name by now. It’s been around since 1993, and I’m sure 30+ years of branding are reason enough to keep it, because people know what it stands for. And the second part of the word (box-er motor and road-ster car type) is still valid. So what?

I wonder how many different car configurations were being tested that day? This is obviously at least two cars. The first car had headlights that looked similar to the Macan, was lacking the fake central exhaust pipe and had a geometrically clean central "door" above the rear license while later, when they showed a prototype in heavier traffic, the headlings were now a simple single lighting element, that idiot looking fake central exhaust pipe was showing and it looked like the central charge port door above the rear license plate had been hacked with a coping saw.

Shotnoise : you're wrong. Porsche made at least 2 differently advanced prototypes as time passed. The 1st prototype was released 1 year before the second with the taycan style headlights. That second prototype is closer to the final production model.

This means that either Porsche was running two different headlight configurations that day or the author of that video spliced two different videos from different snowy days together.

Show me the cayman and I may change my mind. I had a 981 S and it lacked any torque down low but the sound was amazing with SHIT gearing. 718 fixed the low ended tq but lobbed two cylinders which soundes like a wrx. Porsche had a 2nd chance to fix the gearing and failed. I personally think Porsche skipped a step into EV evolution and should have made a hybrid. Fixes the torque, regear and get further range. BUT WHO THE FUCK AM I? I’ll just keep my 911 991.1 4s till I die 🤷🏽‍♂️

front tires look narrow. that means almost entire battery weight is behind the seats, with only some of it ( if any ) in the center tunnel. disappointing considering in the GT4 E-Performance they were able to properly distribute the weight ... albeit at the expense of losing the passenger seat.

I know car manufacturers will eventually have no choice but to make boring EVs...... but even so, what's the point of an electric sports car? Sound, emotion, gear shifts, lightweight design, etc... all make a car in this segment so much fun. But if you replace all that with a silent EV, won't that make it kind of pointless/boring?

Exactly! They will probably advertise that you will be able to charge it between sessions and each charge will give you 30 minutes of driving on track. How is that superior to ICE; I’m not sure. Also, it will take decades for racetracks to build these chargers. I can’t imagine your typical track day with 100 cars trying to charge at once between sessions.

VW makes EVs to atone for DieselGate and to pump the stock, not because EVs make any sense. That said, the new Taycan Turbo GT is impressive - if the 718 EV is even half as good it will easily be among the best EVs on the road.

If this new model weighs under 1400 Kilograms, i will probably buy the Touring version (sport chassis with base engine). Unfortunately i think it will weigh around 1600 Kilograms. I am a purist driver so i need a relatively lightweight open top sports car. I love fast driving on mountain winding roads.

I'll wait until it is released to the market but right now my interest is zero and I doubt it will change much in between now and then. For this kind of stuff I want horses not volts... and lightweight...and not fake sounds and fake noises and everything else that an electrical toaster can't offer and that after all these years it still doesnt offer not to mention the handicapped and mentally challenging charging network. Maybe I am wrong but Porsche is very close to kill the car that saved the company from total disaster...

I get the Mecan being EV where you need an easy to live with tool that does a fuss free job. For the this type of car i want to engage and be part of the process. The new 718 will step into a market without any competition because right now there aren't any electric coupés or cabrios out there. And Porsche learned with the Taycan that they attract a much younger buyer range with EVs which could turn into a lot of new (lifelong) loyal costumers for example. Personally speaking the 718 Cayman EV would be the perfect car for me. It's still a Porsche, it's an EV (low running costs), it's a small coupé and the current 718 is practical enough for my daily needs which will probably even better with an EV platform.

What's notable is that we haven't seen an EV Cayman testing. Seems like it will launch as a roadster only. We'd have seen the Cayman testing by now if they were going to do both models any time soon.

We've seen roadster mules for a very long time because it takes a long time to go through the process of getting a new model ready for sale. If there was going to be a Cayman version within a year of roadster, we'd be seeing mules doing development work by now. The roadster was seen in testing in 2022. If the Cayman was only a year behind, we'd be seeing mules by now.

@@lensoprezole5322 Not in this case. There are a whole range of tests and things to sign off that simply have to be done / repeated for the Cayman, plus type approval for various territories. So, the reality is that if the Cayman is going on sale a year after the roadster and if (as expected) the roadster will be announced later this year as a 2025 model, then the Cayman is very likely not one year behind the Roadster. Or we would have seen it being tested by now. The only way that the Cayman version is only one year behind the roadster is if the roadster is still at least two years from launch. That's possible, but if it's true the project is pretty troubled because it will mean the model will have been in testing for four years from first sighting in 2022 to launch in 2026. So, I think it's more likely that the Cayman, if there is to be one at all, will not follow within a year of Boxster. Put another way, it's very, very unlikely that they're going to announce the Cayman next year but have yet to put any development cars out on the road yet.

Very cool EV coming up. Finally we get a proper two door sports EV. I had all Porsches and Aston Martins you guys dream about!! But ICE is over guys. AND EVs are just easier to maintain, drive and they feel more modern and I can charge it for Free from my solar Roof.. Let’s hope that Porsche will give this car the same set up as the Hyundai IONIQ 5N with gears and sound. I drive a Taycan GTS and yes it is a good electric car, but this is and has to be a sports car. The only way is to be evolved in the driving and have a sporty sound.
