I have a Spyder RS. Because it is a road car, I bought the 18 way comfort seats. On a long road trip, the seat adjustments and extra padding make these seats better suited to a road car than the better looking full carbon buckets. I solved the wireless Apple CarPlay problem with a $50 gadget from Amazon. Now I have wireless Apple CarPlay There are not two ways about it -- the roof is not user friendly. Not only do you have to fold it correctly to stow it, it is finicky about how it is installed. You can latch it on, but if the car isn't happy with the alignment, it will give you a warning light and buzz at you. If you turn off the loud button and keep the revs under 4k, the sound is not deafening. It is a lot of fun to drive!

The salesman was “polite” and said “well I can take a deposit but you’ll be the 100th on the wait list and I’m only getting 7 this year” 🤷🏻♂️ …. So I bought a McLaren 570 Spyder instead…but that’s another (other than the depreciation, a happy) story.

Exactly. Their new sales approach in general is starting to alienate a lot of potential buyers these days. I’m completely turned off the brand as a direct result of this. It doesn’t matter how incredible their cars are (which they are). I’m done with Porsche myself. I was considering a 911 very strongly and went another direction because I could not resolve in my head how I was being treated. Wouldn’t sell me a car unless I put some crazy arbitrary amount of options on it. That’s okay, I guess I’m too old school. I don’t like a company dictating what I buy or don’t buy. "You don't take your Spyder RS to the track." (I have PURE 5000km track time in it :D, and additional 10'000km road) Soft top: yeah problem sometimes but 99% of the time you're not in a rush to put it up or take it down. It takes MAX 1 minute after you done it 5 times. SOmetimes I even leave it at home or store it top down. -Too loud for daily: not at all. When you go under 4000rpm not loud at all BUT a 8th gear just for highway would be good because it will rev 4000rpm all the time. Allocation problem: wasn't a problem. I simply went in and ordered one brand new. And never had a prosche before. Why you messed up the soft top: Because you didn't clipped the end of the soft top to the metal bar. That's a key to help posiotion the top under the trunk. (BTW there is a QR code on the soft top how shoudl you do it) And no it will not go up to 9000rpm like none of these. Not the Gt4RS not the GT3 not the GT3RS. "only" 8'900rpm. (You can read it out from the ECU log.) Weird things: - shaking rear when you brake on the limit. (track) - The vision from the car is not as good as people think. The dash itself is too high up. Of course way better than a Huracan or R8 etc but still nope. The 718 platform itself have this "issue". - rock chip will stuck between the wheel and the caliper and will cut your rims around. :( (I have it with the magnesium wheels) - I lost multiple small pastic parts from the car randomly... :/ 2 fins which is at the wheel arch, and 1 plastic behind the seat behind the headrest.. - the seat is freakin good but I would ALSO love to have more tilt in it. Because when you have a helmet it's not comfortable at all. - it will chew through brakes like no tomorrow and it's not cheap. - how it comes out from the corners that's like insane! For me the was the most impressing thing (after the sound). add: - also changed the camber. 2.00 in the front, and 1.8 in the rear. And put the rear swaybar into had-hard and keep the front in medium-medium. Without this it will understeer like hell on track. - With top on you can't go over 200km/h there is a sign on the dash come up when you do that to warn you. - compare to an S2000 or MX5 you get more wind inside, (because the rollover protection is taller) - lights fog up when there is a rapid temperature change. (like on all Porsche) - exhaust valve have a rattle noise (They said work as designed) - the idle is not steady like for all these GT engines - only apple carplay compatible so I bought a freakin iPhone wihch I hate :D - the sound tops up at 113db inside. (when you have the bikini top on with no rear cover. LOVE: - SOUND! You can enjoy the car at low speed low rpm because of the intake noise. And also high RPM because of the engine sound! - Love how the car some out from corners when you push it. It's unbelievable! - Gladly there are buttons on the mid console and no buttons on the steering wheel. - After the alignment you can make lift of oversteer which I love!! Using the balance of the car to turn. - brakes freakin good - the suspension when it's set to sport there is a real difference what you can clearly notice. So much I don't use the sport setting on the road. - surprisingly fuel efficient. 12-13L / 100km on road. 26-30L on track.

Fantastic review gents. This is a random comment to boost your channel engagement but imagine if Porche brought back the 944, it’s been a while since there’s been a Front engine Porsche sports car. Imagine the 944 turbo coming back front mid engine turbo straight four with a rear trans axle and fantastic handling.

With modern Porsche styling, and a bit cheaper than boxster, that would be so freaking cool
@m1l3s273 ай бұрын
It's called an 86, cheaper than anything Porsche would ever make. Even has a boxer engine lol. Honestly a spiritual successor to the 944 in many ways, ofc just not a Porsche.

Not too long ago there was a customer with a 718 Spyder RS at the the place I work at. I was so hyped to see that car in person so I walked up to him and asked if I could drive along in his car if that was ok. 30 minutes later I was having the time of my life, felt like a kid in a candyshop, amazing car!

I think people should stop comparing them and anyone to top gear. Top gear is its own thing and cannot be replicated. TH has their unique style, which is great, but it isn’t like top gear at all lol

I feel like this car is a "race car for the road" in the way people actually mean when they say it. Not what they think they mean but it's what we actually want and would enjoy. All the noises, all the speed, all the feelings, and we don't hate life or need three days to recover... except maybe hearing.

Best. Car. Ever. Glad I got one. Porsche is apparently discontinuing the petrol 718 in favour of electric. This is the final swan song.

Great review. What fun. Not mentioned is something I noticed moving from the GT4RS to the RS Spyder is that the engine seems to have been improved with sharper take off response. I am trying to find out if the 2024 engines were remapped and if so, what was done.There are other improvements - even the intake noise lower down the rev range is better, and the suspension is way more compliant.

At last a proper review which doesn’t harp on about a manual gearbox which 95% of all RS wouldn’t want. This box and this engine is just perfect and makes the SRS exciting on the reviews I’ve watched. Well done Throttle House 👏

Being lucky in life to had 30 years non stop of 911's as daily driver, ..followed by 10 years with a modified Boxser S (with wich for example I had more than 2'000 miles driven in Laguna Seca), I can only feel those days that the Spyder RS is a dream car for me. With my eyes, it is most probably the best road car that Porsche ever produced !

You guys nailed it in the intro….The 718 Spyder RS makes no sense in the RS family. Porsche should’ve dropped the last letter and called it the “718 Spyder R” (or anything else without the RS) with the GT3 6spd manual.

R would stand for something different entirely, but I can imagine them calling this an S/T. But since this is also not a limited production car, they have to give two shits on marketability and there you go

17:33 I’d echo Thomas’ comments on the seat angle. It was just 1-2 degrees too upright for me as well. I’m using aftermarket seat recliner brackets and it has made a huge difference. Daily drivable for me everywhere now.
